Cold. Callous. Cocky.A total playboy with abs for days, a panty-melting smirk, and a face the gods themselves would be jealous of.And he’s my new boss.None of that matters, because as a single mom, men like Alexander Harding are the last thing I need. What I do need is this job, so I’m going to keep my head down, work hard, and avoid that asshole as much as humanly possible. But then he gives me … then he gives me an offer I can’t refuse, even though everything inside of me is warning me to run away and never look back.
It’s just one weekend.
One weekend to convince a potential client that Alexander has changed from the player who spent more time in the bedroom than the boardroom into a family man they’d be happy to go into business with.
But the more time I spend with him, the more I realize that there might be a beating heart buried under his designer shirts and spectacular pecs after all…which is bad news for me.
Because the only thing worse than hating your boss is falling in love with him.

Emily Goodwin blows this book out for the water!! This book is real, raw, genuine. I absolutely LOVE Harper. She is such a fantastic mom and she shows how you can be a wonderful mom and not be perfect. You can still struggle to make ends meet, not have everything planned out and still be a great mom. She’s real, funny, kind and caring. She loves her girls and would do anything for them. She isn’t afraid to be who she is, to admit she’s a single mom, to admit she works and isn’t rich. She owns who she is and the circumstances that made her who she is.
And Alex…gosh damn! This man is so sexy and nerdy and sweet (at least when he wants to be). He is successful and take his job seriously and doesn’t believe in love. But then when Harper comes into the picture those views do a complete 180.
Their chemistry is electric! They bring out the best in one another and make each other happy. They make each other see a future they might not have thought possible. I loved this book and can’t wait for book 2 on October 3rd!!
And that ending…killing me! But the worth will be worth it!
Hard Place, the latest novel from Emily Goodwin, was a fantastic page-turner that had me hooked from start to finish. It is the first book in the Hard To Love series This story encompassed enemies to lovers, fake relationship, single parent and office romance tropes into one incredible engrossing novel. You will love these characters, they were fun and witty with great chemistry. You will love the slow burn aspect to their relationship, you will love the flirting, the humor and the angst in the story. And then we get to the end. That cliff-hanger ending will leave you intrigued and anxious for more.
Hard Place was a well-written read worthy of 5 stars. I loved it and would highly recommend it to all lovers of contemporary romance.
This is my second ARC from Emily Goodwin. I feel bad I haven’t read more of her books because she’s awesome! I’m one of those who just kept on piling one book after another in their TBR-shelves but I will definitely rectify that in the near future.
I’m pretty sure you’ve already read the blurb—if not, well check it out, lol. I’m not going to repeat that here.
The storyline is not something I haven’t read before. Just this week alone I’ve read three ARC’s with the same trope… but it all depends on how the author will shape the story. Alexander and Harper’s story has their own uniqueness. I love them! There was build-up and anticipation and it was very swoon-worthy. Their chemistry is off the charts! Who doesn’t love surly j€rkwad$ who turn out to be prince charming?!
And that ending? OH.MY.GOD! You can’t live a girl hanging like that! Seriously! Send book two ASAP!Lol
If you love enemies to lovers, office-romance, pretend-relationship romance and single-parent romance then this is the book to pick up! I definitely recommend!
I love this story line and the characters are so good together. I couldn’t put it down. This is a wonderful beginning to a new series. Can’t wait for more books like this one.
