Bodie’s research has hit a wall. The bizarre energy shifts he’s studying in the Caribbean point to something big, he just can’t figure out what. But it isn’t until a firecracker named Lex shows up, demanding his help, that he realizes her data could be the final piece he needs. And he isn’t above using the beautiful heiress to get it.
As their fiery egos give way to smoldering attraction, the dangerous threat behind the changing oceans hits home, forcing each to realize that facing their feelings may be the hardest battle yet.

Shadows in the Deep is the first in the Durand Chronicle series by Lark Brennan. It’s an action-packed and fun story. This novel includes a world-changing battle between good and evil, and a complex scientific world merged with the sensual ease of the Caribbean. Add to that a couple of strong, powerful, and sexy characters, throw in some disappearing whales, dolphins with mental problems, a rescued dog named Earl, and a villain scary enough to make you wonder if anyone, including the intrepid heroes can take him down. It makes for quite a story.
Lex Durand comes from a family business one cannot walk away from. She’s a marine biologist and an animal telepath, sexy, dangerous, and cool. Brodie Flynn is a hunky scientist on the run. He prefers being alone on his boat studying new energy forms he’s discovered, but Lex yanks him out of his safety zone because she needs his help.
This is so much more than a romantic suspense. The author has built a thought-provoking paranormal world chocked full of mystery. It’s a great read, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves romance, danger, and intrigue. Enjoy!
Almost read this in a day! The story was crazy-imaginative. Loved the easy-to-understand ‘science’ of forces and energies, and what happened to the dolphins. Great sexual tension and conflict in getting the couple together- absolutely a riveting read!!
Looks to be a great series.
Shadows in the Deep is a reissue (new title and cover) of Lark Brennan’s Dangerously Yours, and well worth picking up if you missed it the first time around. The first volume in the Durand Chronicles, Shadows in the Deep is a very entertaining read, but a bit difficult to categorize: romantic suspense, certainly; paranormal elements, definitely; even a touch of science fiction, all in a fascinating Caribbean island setting.
To outside eyes, Lex Durand is a marine biologist studying whales and dolphins. Only her close relatives in the large and powerful Durand clan know that she is an animal telepath, and that some of her study subjects have gone mysteriously missing.
Her brother sends Lex to ask for assistance from Bodie Flynn, a near-recluse scientist studying newly discovered forms of energy which may just hold the clue to the disappearances. But Bodie used to be someone else entirely, and he blames Lex’s family for his current situation.
The scientific puzzles are too much for either to resist (and pretty soon they’re having trouble resisting one another, as well). Off they go, via sailboat and seaplane, to one small island after another in pursuit of missing whales, reappearing, and possibly insane, dolphins, mysterious energy, psychic powers, and the occasional explosion.
Shadows in the Deep is the first book in The Durand Chronicles and the first I have read by this author. This exciting romantic thriller is one that grabs your attention from the very beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well developed, complex, and fascinating. The story is action-packed and fast-paced, with missing animals, danger, intrigue, and steamy romance.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

Shadows in the Deep: The Durand Chronicles is the classic story of Good vs. Evil told with mystery, suspense, a little paranormal/sci-fi and some steamy romance all set in the Caribbean.
It’s well written and the characters evolve as they should with a slow build. There’s enough action and intrigue to keep you wanting to read more. The tech talk is written in a way that makes it not only a significant part of the story but adds to the layers as the story line builds.
It was an enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Was not sure what to expect, but I loved it. Rekindling romance and second chances are the reason for this story. Was not expecting the twist at the end
