The Pull of Love’s Allure
She was hanging on by a thread. Still, she was hanging on to the life she had built for herself and her mother. Never again would she let another person destroy her life as her father’s stupidity had five years ago. Now, if she could just get payment from the very arrogant Lord Redhill.
As heir and Viscount Redhill, he had been holding the earldom together since he was yet a boy. He was still holding it together even though his father, the earl, did his best to undermine him at every turn. Still, Robert would continue to be careful and suspicious. Whatever it took to protect his mother and sister. Now, if he could just get rid of the irksome Mrs. Mortimer.
I love a well written Regency romance with just the right amount of drama, humor and steamy passion. Wedded in Scandal by Jade Lee checked all the boxes. It was thoughtful, entertaining and engrossing. There was a perfect balance of dialogue to description and thoughts. I liked Ms. Lee’ writing style and the way she developed the lead characters. Helaine and Robert had both likable and irritating moments. Still their love story unfolded at a steady pace, while still holding my attention. Considering the obstacles they faced, I kept thinking how will they were ever going to realize their happy-ever-after. Thankfully, the magic of fiction solved their problems and the indeed they had their tenderly sweet happy ending.

With both wit and romance, this novel is certainly entertaining. By dint of hard work and sheer grit, Helaine overcomes the legacy left by her father, who disappeared to parts unknown rather than face his sins. Helaine discovers that her youthful dream of designing dresses becomes the mainstay of her existence, by which she sustains both her mother and herself. After a particularly trying day, fixing the mess left by his own father, Lord Robert Redhill in not in the right frame of mind to hold a discussion about paying bills with Mrs Mortimer. However, the gloves come off, especially when Robert’s sister enters the fray. Despite his aversion to having further responsibilities heaped on him, Robert finds himself being drawn into shopping trips and making decisions regarding fashion design. Along the way, both Robert and Helaine, discover a passion between them, but with so many past hurdles to overcome, one does despair of the couple ever finding a way to be together. The book is witty and romantic and I found myself being fully engaged throughout. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Second in a series. Viscount Robert Percy (Gwen’s brother from the first book ) meets her modiste, Mrs. Mortimer. In actuality she is Lady Helaine who’s trying to make a new life for herself and her mother after her father (an earl) has disgraced them and disappeared. Their love story is touching and passionate. While there is an abrupt HEA ending, I wish there had been an epilogue, but there are more books in the series, so I hope more of their story (as well as Gwen and Edward’s) will be revealed.
