Serving as dating guru at her local newspaper, Karissa Daly has gone on her fair share of dates. More than she’d like to admit. She’s all but given up on finding love, certain that she’s enough all on her own. But with her mother’s constant guilt trips and her roomate’s penchant for walks on the wild side, Karissa finds herself on a slew of dates that never should have been.During a string of … string of horrible, terrible, stranger-than-fiction dates, Karissa wonders if she’s cursed. If breaking the heart of the one man she truly cared for has set her on a path of never ending heartache. As her dating life unfolds, the cast of characters she meets just keep getting worse, the dates more ridiculous. Through it all, Karissa finds herself wondering if the perfect match exists, or if every single date is just another story in her collection of Dates of Disaster.

New to me author and the easy going banter, hilarious situations our heroine finds herself in had me beside myself at times. I was sniggering, giggling and belly laughing as I read Dates of Disaster. If you are looking for a laugh then look no further grab a copy and put a smile on your face.
It’s like a series of unfortunate events unfolding at Karissa’s expense. How on earth this twenty-six year old woman managed to remain calm and not tell her meddling mother to back off, I’ll never know. Is Karrissa jaded because of her past decisions? Has this led to her not making herself totally available or is she just a magnet for the weird and wonderful opposite sex?
FYI I’ll never be able to look at a leather jacket again without remembering this book.
I found myself laughing ( literally out loud )
– snorting (a bit embarrassing i’ll tell ya)
– and cringing
– A Lot!
Karissa just has the worst luck when it comes to social interactions and not just of the dating sort – I swear at times she is why Murphy’s law was written.
Sure some of her dates were … well catastrophes
Others I think she freaked out or was a bit judgmental before she had all the facts.
But the heart wants what the heart wants and in a way she is holding out for her Mr. Right – peer and family pressure be d@ mned.
I love her roomy! Liv is Karissa’s complete opposite and her character provides a surreal contrast when placed next to Karissa’s. The two could not be more opposite in not only personality but also ideals.
Karissa’s mom is of the older belief system that a woman is not complete without a man and she is doing her best to find him for her. Yeah, mom’s idea of the perfect man and Karissa’s are worlds apart.
There are a couple of other supporting characters that add a bit more mayhem to Karissa’s life.
This is an easy to follow read that kept me entertained. The characters were front and center and easy to connect with – even if I didn’t always agree with their reactions
I did at times feel that our H needed to be less.. judgy? but that is just me being well me
I am intrigued to see where this, goes
It does end on a bit of a cliffy sort of OMG maybe kind of moment.
The cover is just gorgeous and the book is so much fun! The story did feel a little dragged out toward the end, but the need to know how the story ends prevails anything else! I love the characters, but the mum is a little over the top and annoying, but I think that’s the point. Every time Karissa goes out with a man I think “this is it”, but no, the author kept on surprising me and the poor girl’s love life just gets worse the further along the story goes. Can’t wait to read the next instalment! Love myself some lighthearted fun!
I just finished reading Dates of Disaster and I loved it. Dating guru Karissa has absolutely the worst luck when it comes to dating. Ever since she broke her high school sweetheart’s heart, it’s like the goddess of love has decreed that Karissa isn’t allowed to even have one good date. The men she meets are absolutely some of the cringe-worthiest people you’ll find, one even has a collection of murder movie memorabilia.
If you’re looking for a quick laugh out loud rom-com, I would definitely recommend this story. You’ve got a wonderful setting in Austin, hysterical characters, and great writing, this story will have you in stitches.

Dates Of Disaster was my first read by Ava! This was such a terrific read!! I was laughing at almost every page turn all the way to the end!! Just love the two lead characters and cannot believe how much disaster strikes Karissa at every turn!!
This story is fantastic! My first read by Ava, I was not disappointed. I found myself admiring Karissa’s sass, both laughing and cringing at her misfortunes in the dating arena, and hoping that each new date would bring her the HEA she so completely deserves. The secondary characters are strong and fill in the story with more hilarity and provide realistic relationships for the reader, plus are added sources of amusement. Easy to read and quick-paced, my pages turned quickly in hopes of being able to say, “This is the guy for her!” But, Ava has done a great job of showing that good things come to those who wait (even if we don’t have the patience for it!) Anticipation builds for book two!
