The writing in this book is beautiful and the history was fascinating, but I just couldn’t find it in me to like either of the main characters. The prince/emperor came across as indecisive, easily duped, and a bit of a weenie.
And Mehrunissa? Sorry, I just can’t fathom lusting after a guy at eight years old, watching him marry woman after woman …
