Hell to the no. That’s what personal assistant Carly Winston wants to say to her boss when he tasks her with delivering his ring to his flaky fiancée. And again when the annoyingly sexy head of security, Maverick Green, is instructed to accompany her. Not wanting to lose her job, she bites her tongue. Sure, she has no desire to complicate her life with a relationship. But if she can avoid … avoid Maverick’s appeal as her next-door neighbor, surely one whirlwind trip with him won’t change anything.
Well aware Carly has made it her life goal to avoid men, Mav Green has fought the temptation to pursue her. Now, he’s been charged with making sure the ring she’s delivering stays safe, and that’s exactly what he’s going to do. Little does he know, fate has a plethora of shenanigans in store for them. A robbery. Drag queens. Battles against nature. Each of their crazy hijinks is wilder than the last, and sparks undeniable chemistry between the pair.
Thrust into a seemingly impossible job, will the time spent with Mav be enough to melt Carly’s icy façade?

Go grab this book!!!!
A push-and-pull romance with a series of unfortunate (hilarious) results? Yes, please.
This was a cute read. The back and forth Carly had about Mav got a little tiresome but I did enjoy it when they were together.
Carly and her daughter moved to Florida to get away from her ex-husband and his parents. She moved into a building owned by her boss. She worked with a man who is every woman’s dream…Mav. They antagonize one another every chance they got. Carly was tasked with delivering a ring worth 12 million dollars to her boss’s girlfriend as a proposal of marriage. Mav, who works security, is going along to ensure the ring’s safety. Every time they think they found Felicia, something hilarious happens to them…and ends up killing the mood! When they finally track her down and give her the ring…what will happen to them? Will they finally end up staying together? I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.
This is the first book I have read by this author. It’s a fun romcom told in dual POV. Mav & Carly both work for eccentric billionaire Richard. Mav is the Head of Security, while Carly is Richard’s assistant. He sends the two of them on a ridiculous task, which ends up being a series of funny adventures. Mav has been interested in the prickly, blaming, single mom Carly for a long time. I found it hard to click with Carly. She was a different person with her friends than she was with Mav, who hadn’t been anything but kind & caring towards her until he’d had enough. I think Richard & Felicia were more interesting & deserved more words.
I received a copy of this book. My honest opinion is voluntarily provided.
Carly is a jaded divorcee who works in Orlando for a crazy billionaire and tries to resist her attraction for her coworker Maverick aka Mav, the security chief for the company. He also happens to be her next door neighbor and they spend their time bickering. That all changes when their boss sends them to deliver the engagement ring on his behalf and everything that can go wrong does. Providing ample entertainment for the reader. Everything from drag queens to camping and cupcake costumes creates a unique adventure for these two. Sexual tension builds while they each realize they want something more than a weekend fling. I enjoyed the story alternating between the two characters. I did find the foul language used to be distracting from the story. I’m disappointed in women who use such poor language. If different words had been used I would have given this story 5 stars.
I’m so happy that Amabel Daniels wrote Next To Me which is a funny, light hearted and feel good rom com!! I mean Mav and Carly were just downright hilarious. I knew from the start that they were meant to be together and even if they didn’t realize it, their chemistry was undeniable. If you are looking for a quick and entertaining book, then Next To Me is definitely the book for you.
