Victim of Desire (Hot Pursuit Book 1)

The author has given us characters that we can connect with. Years ago, Taylor and Shane were partners at the police department. Now, Taylor has been promoted to Detective and Shane has moved into the private sector. Shane has always wanted Taylor and must convince her that it is what she wants, too. Still, while doing a mystery weekend at a B&B, the imaginary crime is taken over by a possible true crime.

Victim of Desire by Liza Mitchell is a short novella that ends with one crazy cliffhanger. In this novella, Taylor a police detective agrees to go on a murder mystery weekend vacation with her best friend Paige and her husband Carson. Taylor gets quite the surprise when Page’s brother Shane shows up at the Carroway Bed and Breakfast, planning to participate as the fourth for their group. This is a spicy story with plenty of sexy scenes and lots of surprises. However, even though I really enjoyed the part of the story that I read, I feel like I only received part of a story instead of a complete story which is why I am only rating it 3 stars. I do not like when the story I am reading is a cliffhanger that leaves me wondering what happens next. Victim of Desire is a good partial but incomplete story.

This is the first installment, only 60 pages, in the Hot Pursuit series. I really enjoyed reading this story. I like the story line, where four friends take a vacation at a bed and breakfast that is famed for their murder mystery game. While you are their it is like a living Clue game. You are given a folder with your character’s information and are told to find clues. If the clue is thought to be in a place too hard or too fragile, it isn’t there. The thing is, they get caught up in a real life murder mystery by the end of this installment.

Taylor is a police detective, the youngest ever for their precinct, and she hasn’t taken a vacation in 10 years. She is going on a vacation with her best friend Paige and her boyfriend. Paige has invited her brother, Shawn, along to even the number out so Taylor won’t feel like such a third-wheel. Taylor and Shawn were partners for a few years and when Taylor got promoted, Shawn told her about his feelings. Taylor said she needed some time to come to grips about it. Hours turned to days, days turned to weeks, weeks turn to months and then they just never spoke again.

Shawn has been in love with Taylor since the first time he saw her. When they were police partners, they couldn’t be more than partners at work. Once she got promoted they could take it to the next level, but apparently she didn’t want to. He left, moved hundreds of miles away and went to work in the public sector of personal security. For the past two years his sister has tried to fix him up with girls, and he kept turning her down. He is now on this vacation with his sister, her boyfriend and Taylor. Maybe he will get his chance to show her that they belong together. Either that or he will know that it will never be and he can get on with his life.

Shane has always had a thing for Taylor but has been waiting in the wings until they were no longer partners. Now that he’s gone into private security he is ready to make his move. This is a quick lunchtime read filled with mystery, suspense, murder, intrigue, romance, steam and an ending that left me wanting more. The writing is great and the story from the first page until the last held my attention.

Taylor’s meeting her friend Paige at the B&B for a murder mystery weekend. Paige brings her boyfriend Carson, and her brother Shane. Shane and Taylor went through the academy together, and were partners for a while until he left to go into private security. The heat between them is undeniable, and the scene where he went to her room with a bottle of wine is one of the hottest I’ve ever read. Strange things happen in the B&B that don’t appear to be related to the mystery they’re trying to solve. And then, before there’s any kind of resolution, it’s time for a cliffhanger. In general I’m not a fan of cliffhangers, especially when I don’t know they’re coming, and don’t know if I’ll be able to read the next book to finish the story. That being said, I did enjoy the part of the story that is in this book, and hope to be able to finish it soon.

This book took off with a bang and kept you guessing all the way through

Taylor a detective is someone who works far to many hours and never relaxes but finally she is having a break with her best friends Paige and Carson only problem they brought along Shane He was once her best friend and partner but she broke his heart but he has never stopped loving her and he intends to win her heart. They have all gone along to a mystery weekend with a mock murder to be solved Things start to escalate when the mock murder turns out to be a real murder. Be aware that this book ends on a cliffhanger so if that isn’t for you maybe wait for the next book before you start to read

OMG! Talk about totally rocking this bad boy from start to finish. Wrestling the trials and tribulations that blend and bend with such on point realism it blasts this bad boy to life flawlessly. Liza really brings it together in this amazing tale. Such depth and individuality. Strong characters, amazing storyline with an outstanding plot keeps you immersed till the end. The characters and scenes are written with such graphically detailed and colorful description it’s easy to get drawn into this incredible work of art. Fantastic job Liza, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
