Lore is an Ancient and is just what his name describes – Lore. The lore of a thousand peoples and places, their magics and their beliefs all evolved over the passage of time and now walking the Earth as this male — Lore. He’s wandered this realm and the next for eons in search of his beloved mate. She was taken from him as punishment for his deviant behavior, and as retribution for betraying his … his own brother. He’s searched for so long he is near insanity — some even think he has crossed that line.
Evangeline is a true innocent, lured from the safety of her brethren by a beautiful, sensual male filled with promises and magics as old as time. She’s locked away from everything she loves. She has no idea why — she has no memories. They’ve all been stolen from her. All she does know is that she has to remain hidden. Those who tend her tell her that her love wants to kill her, and they keep her imprisoned for her own good. Now if she could only remember her love, maybe she’d know who she should be hiding from.
Lore refuses to cease his search for the female that holds not only his heart, but his soul. He’s long ago stopped believing that she’ll ever love him again — she doesn’t even remember him. But she’s locked away, treated as a prisoner in a place no innocent should ever be held, simply because she once loved him, she trusted him. And for that she suffers. He won’t stop until she can dance in the sunshine to her heart’s content, and he can hear her musical laughter on the winds. If it costs him his very existence, he’s willing to give it. Will he be able to find her this time, before his brother spirits her away from him again? He’s tired. He’s ready to give in to the insanity and nothingness that berate his mind on a daily basis. This is his last chance at saving her.
Warning: Intended for mature audiences. This book contains intimate love scenes, some violence, and possibly some abuse both real and inferred that may be disturbing for some readers. If you are offended by these subjects, please do not buy this book.

What can I say about Lore? Holy cow! The Whispers in the Bayou is one; if not my favorite, PNR series. From the first page of each book, I am hooked like a druggie wanting the next fix. Lore reminds us to never give up on love and always keep fighting for what we love. There are moments of tears and moments of celebration. Along with love it tells us about friendship. The author’s intent most likely wasn’t to have readers pondering the questions and dedications of friendship, it worked for me. Even though it is a PNR, I love the fact that many aspects are real. Thank you for a book series I love to read and re-read. Cannot wait for the next book. Do not miss out on a great series, a definite must read.
Deep in the bayou is a place called the whispers were all kinds of paranormal live from vampires to gargoyles to sirens and witches and all kinds of creatures that call it home. But evil is getting closer and the ancient lore is becoming more insane as time goes by. THE search for his true love has drove him mad,but finally he has found his Evangeline ! He will need to go to the pits of hell and rescue her from the dark one. I always knew that lore was a dark being, always making deals with everyone and in this book we see his past and how he lost his mate. His purgatory is to watch the ones he loves the most suffer for his sins. I did a lot of crying when reading his story for many reasons, but I also laughed a lot too. This was a fabulous book and so much happened!!! I love so many of these characters and the way they care about each other is beautiful. I won’t lie the goyles destroy, murder and my favorite gargoyle of all time carnage are my favorites and they were a large part of lore’s story. Of course theirs the women of the whispers that I adore too ,such strong females worthy of their mates. And Lily carnage and carolena’s daughter is growing into her powers and has become very powerful and will be what helps save all from the evil twisted Acaleo hell bent on destroying everyone lore holds dear. also new to this group are lore’s sister luci and his brother terrus two very powerful anients. And murder may have found his mate while he was captive in hell,Phrygia is one of the dark ones guards and she may or may not be a demon!!! Can’t wait to find out her story ! So many questions answered, but a few news ones to figure out! This series is one of my all time favorites!I wish I could tell you about everything that went on because lots of shit went down!!! Now I will have to wait patiently(not) for book 5!!! I friggin adore you Sandra R Neeley, you so rock!! Until next time luv’s
Lore is a bit out of his mind but then again so is Evangeline. I really enjoyed the storyline and we meet a lot of new characters. As always Sandra has brought us into this world of wonderful characters that make you wish you were in the bayou with them. With each new book in the whispers series the characters draw you into the woods with them so much so I read them way to quickly and then Jones for more. And right before the next one is out I reread them all so I’m ready.
GREAT ADDITION TO THE SERIES!!!
Title: Lore
Series: Whispers From The Bayou
Author: Sandra R. Neeley
Designation: Book 4 of Series, Not Recommended As A Standalone, Full-Length Novel, No Cliffhanger #paranormal #fantasy #romance
My Rating: Three Rising Stars***
**Although Lore could probably be read as a standalone and does NOT end with a cliffhanger, this reviewer recommends reading the books of the series sequentially to enrich your reading experience and avoid possible spoilers. Also, this book does contain references to sexual violence and, though skillfully written, may serve as triggers for some readers.
Earlier this year, I received a recommendation via newsletter for a recently released science fiction romance entitled Haven 1: Ascend by Sandra R. Neeley. Having never read any of Neeley’s work, I was somewhat hesitant to make the purchase, but I’m totally addicted to science fiction and have been for almost 60 years, plus the endorsement came from a trusted author I follow. I’m always on the lookout for talented new writers, so after reading the blurb and short sample on Amazon, I made my purchase and dove in. Best decision ever! Despite a few problems, particularly the third person omniscient narrative, I enjoyed the story immensely and decided to try more of Neeley’s work and purchased her ongoing Whispers of the Bayou Series. The world, characters, and story arc created by Neeley for this series are imaginative, original, captivating, and quite simply extraordinary, but her execution and style definitely need work. Sandra Neeley has gathered quite a loyal following for her work in a relatively short period of time, and that definitely includes me. I’ve become quite a fan of Whispers, a secret settlement located deep in the Bayou of Louisiana, as well as its diverse group of quirky residents. I especially love the characters Neeley created to populate this small community of unusual paranormal/supernatural beings. But as much as I hate to be a ‘Negative Nellie (please, don’t shoot the messenger), I must be honest, which I strive to do in all of reviews, and state that Lore is one of the worst examples/executions of a third person omniscient perspective narrative I’ve ever encountered, and I’ve read thousands upon thousands of books. The nonstop head hopping and changing points of view, frequently multiple times in one paragraph, was enough to cause reader whiplash. It was beyond distracting and, even worse, caused a severe disconnect between me and the characters. Quite often, it’s difficult to actually discern the identity of the protagonist but, thankfully, the name of the primary character is the title of the book. Yet, I couldn’t stop reading. I felt compelled to keep turning the pages. In her official bio, Neeley states: ‘I am by no means a formal, polished, properly structured individual and neither are my stories. But people seem to love the easy emotion and passion that flow from them.’ And make no mistake, her stories are brimming with raw emotion, soulful passion, heartbreaking angst, edge of your seat action, adventure and suspense, and so much more. But why waste so much potential talent and be mediocre when, with a little work and effort, Neeley could be a truly exceptional writer? Neeley’s writing certainly has its merits, like powerful character development, richly detailed world building, vibrant scene depictions, intriguing conflicts, easy to follow plot progressions, and good overall syntax. but again, her choice of narrative style needs to be refined. The suspense surrounding Lore’s character has been building throughout the first three books and, no doubt, has been the most highly anticipated book of the series thus far, but I was somewhat disappointed by the split focus of the story. There was too much attention given to the secondary characters, their thoughts, and their feelings, dividing the reader’s attention and distracting us from Lore and Evangeline’s love story, which brings me to another point and the reason I would not recommend this book as a standalone. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, some new and others from previous books. Granted, they’re all intriguing, but readers new to the series may find themselves a little lost. However, we did get long awaited answers to many of the questions surrounding Lore, his origins, and backstory. So, in conclusion, did I like this book? Yes, very much. Will I read this author again? Most definitely. Neeley set the hook for next story in the final chapter of this book, which will feature gargoyle Murder and his former captor, supposed demon guard Phrygia. Yeah, Neeley totally reeled me in with that little plot bunny. Would I recommend this book? Yes, but conditionally. Only for adults and readers who don’t mind a questionable version of a third person omniscient narrative with unstructured, somewhat confusing, sometimes indiscernible, and constantly changing perspectives. And finally, was I entertained? Completely!
Again, she does it! Weaving her wonderful storytelling of Lore into an emotional fantastic read.
Wow. A lot happened in this book. Lore finally locates his mate and rescues her with the help of friends. We also finally meet other ancients who are Lore’s siblings.
I enjoyed all the new people and realms in this one. This world just keeps expanding outside Whispers and it’s quite fascinating. I can’t wait to read Murders book after the ending.
Ancient mysteries revealed!
A most unusual love story.
What a wild extraordinary world we experience as Lore endures memories of past errors. Lore’s happiness would be hard won – if it can be won. I love the story! We gain so much information about Lore, his family, and Evangeline. None of this could be successful without the help of some ‘select’ friends. All my favorites appear throughout the story: living, loving, supporting each other as their skills permit, each in their own inimitable fashion. At times, I was concerned – the ‘enemy’ is insane, making a game-plan virtually useless. The outcome is soul-satisfying!
*WARNING* for readers ages 18+ due to sexual content and language
Lore is an ancient who is slightly unhinged. Lore has been searching the realms for many years searching for his true mate, only to have her snatched away again.
She has been in this awful place for what feels like forever. She has no memories. She doesn’t know her own name. She only sees a purple mist sometimes and it talks to her so she’s not afraid.
I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. This story answers so many of the nagging questions about Lore that the prior books of this series left. Even some about precious Lily! I have loved the Lore character from the very first book, and for me, this is the best of the all. I have been having some personal problems and this book was so powerful, it took me out of me own head and fully into the very emotionally charge story of my favorite character. This story has totally gutted me. I know how Ms. Neeley comes up with such amazing ideas, how she puts so much feeling these pages, this book alone would make you a faithful reader.
This PNR sets a very high bar for the writing world. I would highly recommend this to all adults who read this genre.
Lore is an alluring story about how so many can be affected by the choices you make. I couldn’t help but give my heart out to Lore as I learned how he lost his love. I was pulled into his story, and I couldn’t wait to see how it ended. I loved how the family of Whispers pulled together to help Lore find his true love, and find his way to happiness. I can’t wait to see Lily as she gets older. She already gives everyone a hard time. She brings a smile to your face even when you cry.
