I’m bound to a demon. For my entire life, I avoided magic at all costs. Now, I’m responsible for a demon who wields magic more powerful than the toughest mage or sorcerer.Demons are evil. That’s what my textbooks say. That’s what I see. He’s ruthless, he’s temperamental, he’s cold. But he protects me without fail. I wonder if he’s hiding a heart behind his hostility. My demon is a monster.Whether … hostility.
My demon is a monster.
Whether he’s heartless or not, my contract with him is illegal and beyond dangerous. Together, we must find a way to return him to his own world before anyone discovers our secret. If that wasn’t bad enough, I’ve come to realize something else:
My demon isn’t the only monster I should be worried about.

This is phenomenal. I love seeing how Zylas the demon is being with Robin. How Robin is coming to understand Zylas more and more, and care for him. They are quite the team and I hope to see how the pair possibly help Tori with Ezra and his demon. Oh how the unexpected happens in little steps and the relationships advanced in larger steps. Now if Zora would get it together and just help Robin.
Amazing delighted fun
“Zylas!” I gasped, bursting out from under the table. “Fight him!”
“Na?” He folded his arms, one shoulder lifting in a shrug. “But I am useless, payilas. That is what you said.”
“I will teach you how to be drādah ahktallis.”
“How to be what?”
He laughed, the sound low and husky. “Smart prey.”
“Nah-ill-leer-iss?”
“Easy to scare,” he translated. “Coward is your word, na?”
‘Slaying Monsters for the Feeble’ is book two in Annette Marie’s Guild Codex: Demonized series.
Wow!!! What a story, so many twists, turns and surprises. Can I just say I love, love, LOVE Zylas!!! He is so fun to read, I really want a POV from him cause I believe that would just be so hilarious.
The bond between Zylas and Robin continues to grow while they learn to trust each other. Robin still new to the world as a Guild member is trying to fit in, goes out Vampire hunting to keep her cover as a Contractor. But it’s not easy when your demon is not able to be controlled, even cookies and cakes are not going to be enough to keep Zylas under raps when he has his mind set, especially if Robin’s life is in danger.
I’m really enjoying this series and I love watching Robin and Zylas’ interactions.
once again I found myself sitting down, reading, and looking up to find it after midnight and the book done and me clicking to download the next one for tomorrow. the more the series goes on the more I love it and despite my first read-through being on KU I will be buying these so if I ever forget to renew my subscription I still have them ready and waiting to read again. The angst and other emotions these books evoke are amazing. I cannot wait to read numbers three and four!
I think this was so much better than book 1, & I really enjoyed book 1, too. This held my attention, and except for stupid interruptions from work & life, I read non-stop. I think a reader needs to start with book 1 in this series or they will feel lost as to what’s going on in this book. You don’t need to read the other series that this parallels in what’s going on to keep up though. So much happens in this book, that I can’t really say anything about that without giving out spoilers. Though there are 2 scenes where she invades his space (sitting on him), one to look at his teeth, and another to make a point to him, that were hysterical & hinting at what could be a possibility down the road for them. I loved those 2 scenes, because they were very revealing to me that he didn’t stop her or toss her across the room- but let her do it, weakling that she is. I like Robin, she’s seems like a normal nerdy type of person, not some super-hero or somebody that’s overdone & unbelievable. It makes her very relatable. But Zylas, something about this demon is crazy great -for me anyway. Something about him being so unpredictable & a wildcard, is interesting. I see him progressing slowly into a decent being, not just a selfish evil demon he’s supposed to be. I think he’s crazy deep, with us readers only getting a tip of the iceberg in these 2 books of what’s ticking in his mind. If this progresses into a relationship with them, it’s definitely a very slow burn, with them learning to like & trust each other along the way. I hope it does progress into a relationship, cause I can see the potential between them! The demonic words he uses, it drives me crazy wanting to know what they mean, as I suspect the interpretation for a few of them are not what Robin thinks they are, or not how he’s intending to use them with her. I can’t wait for book 3 now!
So damn good! I freaking love Zylas!
Love this series! So much action with great characters and an addicting story.
So many new discoveries and mysteries between demons and humans. Robin and Zylas have uncovered some never-before-seen power. And the team work between the two is truly one-of-a-kind.
I am hoping that somehow Robin and Zylas can end up together. They are perfect for each other, but who knows how this will all turn out. Zylas is dead set on returning home, and Robin seems to want to keep everything strictly professional. Now Zora is out to make things even more complicated than they already are.
The cliffhanger wasn’t something that had me craving more, but I am all in with this story. Can’t wait for the next one!

Wonderful narration performance!

Robin Page loves books, baking, and staying out of the limelight. However, having a demon contracted to her kinda makes that last thing hard to accomplish. Especially since her contract with Zylas is totally illegal and if anyone finds out she would be executed. A demon contractor is supposed to have complete control over their demon. Robin does not. Not even a little. But they are bound together and he is sworn to protect her and she…well, she bakes him cookies. I know. It’s ridiculous (and actually kind of hilarious) and if you had read the first book you’d know all about this. So, go read it.
Anyway, Robin is trying to find a way to send Zylas home, back to the demon world, but she is a complete demon novice. It’s taking awhile. And Zylas is getting impatient. In addition, she is trying to find her mother’s grimoire, last seen with her despicable uncle. On top of all this, there’s trouble in town and Robin & Zylas manage to land in the middle of it. Thank goodness they belong to the Crow and Hammer because Robin could really use some friends right about now. Though we don’t really get to see much friend making in this book, I’m hoping it’s coming soon. There’s everything in this book that I love from the other connected series: magic, humor, danger, a great world and awesome characters. If you’re looking for a series to fall into then this and Spellbound are it.
Spellbinding! Hooked from the first page I absolutely loved loved loved it! Robin and Zylas are phenomenal! With each new book I love them even more. I can’t wait for more thrilling heart-stopping adventures!
I love this world! This demon is like no other and thank goodness for that!
Zylas and Robin are finding their footing in this world and learning how to be what they are together. It’s fun and frustrating and never dull. The broadening cast of characters is also really intriguing, and I can’t wait to dive into the larger world of The Guild Codex!
Come on April! I need book 3!
Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.
This has been another ground-shaking installment of the Guild Codex world that has taken me farther than I ever could have imagined. And that is the best thing about reading a book by this author. No matter how many books Annette Marie releases, I am always completely captivated and awed by her storytelling.
The way that Annette Marie weaves both series from this world together is a bit of magic in itself. The Guild Codex world is complex and vibrant with so much lore and world-building infused into everything. The way that the author merges both series together to create something even more incredible is nothing short of brilliant. I get tingles just thinking about how much further she can take things and how much deeper this world can go. I have no doubts that whatever she has in store for us will blow our minds.
With Marie’s storytelling you never quite know what to expect. I love that you never quite know where her stories will take you. The sky is honestly the limit where her stories are concerned and she takes her readers to extreme heights. Every time I stumble onto a plot twist, a big reveal, or a bit of foreshadowing I am left reeling. The twists and turns are real, ya’ll. Prepare your heart now for the unpredictable.
Character development has always been another strong suit for this author. I never have to worry about connecting with characters when I read her books. I always do every single time. She is such a skilled craftswoman when it comes to developing her characters. Not only are the individual characters full of depth and distinct personalities but the relationships that the characters share are always meaningful and so well developed. Even the secondary characters shine. I am always so impressed with the characters that Marie bursts into existence.
Overall, Slaying Monsters for the Feeble is an astonishing new addition to the Guild Codex world. I love this world so much. I love these characters and the direction that the story is taking. I could gush about this author’s superb storytelling all day long. Annette Marie is hands down my favorite author and I can only hope that she never runs out of stories to tell. Do yourself a favor and pick up one of her books today!
Very good addition to the Guild Codex Demonized series. Robin is insecure and clumsy, and makes things worse almost as often as she rises to the occasion. Sort of an ‘anti’ or accidental hero, but well and consistently written. Robin and the demon Zylas are looking for her family’s grimoire and are working with her cousin Amalia who is looking for her father, Jack (who has the grimoire). This is the closest I’ve come to peeking at the end of a book to see who survives in quite a while, as the tension is incredible! Fast paced, lots of action, great characters and a good story. All in all, just what I’ve come to expect and enjoy from author Annette Marie. I’ll buy anything she writes.
I’m really enjoying this series. It’s well-written, fast paced and entertaining.
Love this book. I never know what way it is going to go. I am sure the next book is going to be the best. Thanks for writing them. Pick up these books. So worth it.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
After the first book in this series about Robin and her demon Zylas I was really excited to start reading this one. It’s a great sequel. There’s more we learn about the demons, Robin’s family and more. There’s plenty of action and I loved seeing the interactions between Robin and her demon Zylas.
In this book Robin is still coming to terms that she’s now responsible for a demon. Then some strange occurrences start happening, Robin is still searching for answers about her family’s grimoire and vampires are popping up everywhere. It was quite the interesting read with enough adventure, action and character development.
Robin and Zylas are bound to one another, but things don’t always go as smoothly. Zylas has to protect her, but that definition is quite lose and as a demon he is quite different from humans. Something we really see in this book as well as in Robin’s attempts to really figure out how he thinks about things. The interesting part is that while Zylas judges Robin by his standards, Robin does the same. She’s disappointed he doesn’t act like she hopes, but I actually thought that drove home how different Zylas is. And then there are the events at the end of the book. I just have even more questions and can’t wait to see how things play out.
The plot in this book was quite interesting as well. Robin still isn’t going much to the guild house, but she makes a few appearances and she makes a new friend there. I liked seeing how she got a feel for the guild and even helped them along a bit and got involved with things. It also was interesting to see the vampire problem and Robin’s hunt for the grimoire progress as slowly we figure out what’s going on. With a bunch of exciting reveals and events at the end.
One of my favorite parts of this series are Robin’s interactions with Zylas. It’s so fun to read about them and how they interact. I feel like we get a better understanding about Zylas and demons in general in this book and I was happy every time Zylas shared something about his world or demons with Robin as it was interesting to learn more. It’s fascinating to have two characters who literally are so different interact. And they make mistakes. There was this one scene where Robin said something and didn’t even realize how badly that would cum across, but then later she tries to fix it and I loved that about her how she was willing to acknowledge she made a mistake and try and fix things.
I really like Robin as a main character. While she might not be as physically strong or capable, she’s slowly working on that. And even tough her lack of strength, she often gets herself in dangerous situations and doesn’t run away to save herself. I liked that about her and also how she slowly seems to care about Zylas. I liked the lessons Zylas gave her and how she’s slowly trying her hand at more sorcery to be more capable in fights. I also like how determined she is, she really does her best to find the grimoire and help Zylas.
Zylas is a fascinating character. He’s so different with how he’s a demon, but he also has a set or rules or morals he lives by. And he is quite consistent in regards to how he acts with those in mind. I liked learning more about him and demons and their world in general. I like seeing how observe and interact with the human world and how he’s slowly learning more about it. It was interesting to see how new and strange the human world is for him.
There are also some fun side characters. I liked seeing Robin and Amalia interact and like how they stuck together. I also liked seeing Robin make a new friends in Zora and how that progressed.
While this is a spin-off series from the Guild Codex: Spellbound series, so far they just run parallel to each other with a few cross over points. In this book there’s a scene at the start with Robin and Tori at the bar, which was fun. This book runs parallel to The Alchemist and an Amaretto, but as Tori and her friends go someplace else for Christmas, while Robin stays at the guild, that means very little interaction. I think starting next book these two series will really start to mash together. And I am excited to see how that goes.
This book ads some interesting pieces of world building. There’s more we learn about demons, sorcerers and the demon realms and summoning in general. I like how with every book we learn more and there are more pieces we get. I like this world and the two series that take place in it.
To summarize: This was an awesome sequel. I liked reading more about Robin and Zylas. Their interactions are one of my favorite part of the book. They have a vampire problem to deal with in this book and Robin is looking for her uncle and the grimoire. There’s plenty of action and character development. Robin is a great main character and I like how brave she is even tough she isn’t as strong physically. I also like how she’s smart and determined. She makes mistakes, but also tries to fix them again. I really liked learning more about Zylas, demons and the demon world in general. And there are some events later in the book that leave me wanting to know more about what happened and how it works. This book runs parallel with The Alchemist and an Amaretto, but there’s only one small scene at the start and end where the stories intersect a bit. I think in the next books these stories might more fully combine. All in all this was a great read and I really liked these two series set in the Guild Codex world.
What a pleasure to see more of Robin and Zylas! Really i loved to see how they interact with each other with the games, and the mistakes they both can make.
The really good point is that we learned more about the demon world as Zylas accepted to share a bit more of his history.
Robin is still adjusting to the situation and learning about Zylas and sometimes she expect him to react like an human being which is kind of unfair to him but deep down she is a really good person and wants to help each time she can.
This time, they are both confronted to vampires some even as strong as Zylas so Robin must ask help among the guild and she must confront her fears as well.
There are a lot of twists, some moment full of suspense other with lot of humour but it’s a story you can’t stop reading once started, it’s too addictive and we always want more.
Really this is an excellent book , better read in order and if you do follow Tori adventure better read this one after book 5 to avoid spoilers and get more insight into the situation when Robin and Tori are chatting but no fear if you only read this series it’s completely good as well (simply you will want more as it’s too good at a moment or another)
the only downside is the ending a little too abrupt for my tastes but really i LOVED it and i can’t wait for book 3!
OMG! This series has surpassed my adoration for Tori’s series, and I really love that one. Robin is growing in strength so much, and I love her interactions with Zylas. Is it wrong I think he’s hot, and she should become involved with him? Anyway, in this one, we find out more about Robin’s family, Zylas’ home/family, and we discover something new…which I can’t wait for the next book to see more about this new discovery! Oh, and I’m really wanting Robin and Tori to be friends; the end made me think it’s coming sooner rather than later. Intrigued? Read this one and find out what’s going on. If you love urban fantasy with action, intrigue, great characters, and a wonderful plot, you really need to give this series a try. I highly recommend this! I was provided a copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
