Despite her reluctance, he’s determined to do whatever it takes to save her, including giving up his own life.

“The hair on the back of Kate’s neck stood on end, and the feeling of being watched crawled along her skin in goose bumps. She was supposed to be at home, savoring the last month of her pregnancy…..Instead, her husband was buried in a cold dark grave, and she was running for her life.”
Expecting Danger begins with a rush and the thrills never let up, as Kate runs from the person or persons chasing her, while working to discover why she is their target. Thankfully, she is joined by Jacob “Jake” Jones, who happens into her life and attempts to keep her safe until she can deliver her baby. As they try to escape, Jake finds that he is facing another risk because Kate’s pregnancy constantly reminds him of the wife and baby that he’s lost. Emotional anguish can be as harmful as physical danger and Jake finds himself experiencing both! Will Kate and Jake find the answers they need to end this nightmare? Can Jake overcome his grief and let go of the past? Is there a future for Kate and her baby with this wonderful, caring man?
Author Jennifer Pierce grabbed my attention from the very beginning and I felt as if I was there as Kate and Jake continually faced perils and danger in their race to find the truth. I enjoyed seeing how the hurts from their pasts were slowly healed as they learned to trust each other and I loved the strong faith element that is at the core of this story. If you enjoy Christian romantic suspense, you will certainly find it in Expecting Danger!

I enjoyed Expecting Danger by Jennifer Pierce so much that when I read the blurb at the end of the book for an upcoming release this October, I pre-ordered. Wanting to know how I’ve missed such a good storyteller as Ms Pierce, I checked to see what other books she’s published. Folks, Expecting Danger is her second published book! As well as Expecting Danger is written, Ms Pierce can only go up from here.
Well-developed and a plot with just the right twists and turns, Expecting Danger is sure to please the palate of inspirational suspense readers.
Pregnant, and on the run, Kate thought she was safe, even for a little while, from the men who killed her husband; then that eerie feeling of being followed begins, again. When a large man attempts to kidnap her, she flees to the local police station where she meets security expert, Jacob Jones.
Despite her attempts to dissuade him, Jake recognizes her terror and cannot just watch Kate put herself in more danger when she leaves the police station. Turns out Jake’s instincts were correct because soon after, Kate is shot at and when she agrees to accompany Kate to her apartment to retrieve her go bag, her screams send him running into the building only to find a man with a gun pointed at her head. After disarming the kidnapper, Jake and Kate leave town, driving as far and long into the night.
I highly recommend Expecting Danger by Jennifer Pierce.

When a novel starts out with a woman who is running for her life, and who is eight months pregnant, you can’t help but be immediately intrigued. That is where you meet Kate. You would think your heart would go out to a woman who is in such a predicament, and it does, but what do you do when you struggle through an entire novel trying to connect with her? You keep on reading and hope that further down the line the connection will be there. For me, it never came.
It isn’t that Expecting Danger is bad. Actually I was quite taken with Jake, Kate’s knight-in-shining-armor, a role that he plays perfectly. How can you not fall in love with an ex-military man that puts his faith first, and risks his life, to follow his instincts and his heart? But even the incredible Jake wasn’t enough to further boost my love for this novel.
Despite having suspense, without having the connection to Kate’s character, I struggled to care about their plight. I found myself bored with the predictability, and the only question I really craved to know as I read was the gender of Kate’s unborn child.
I feel like there could’ve been a lot more character development for both Jake and Kate, which I do realize could’ve happened in the first book in the series, but since I haven’t read it, I can’t say for sure. All I know is the entire time I read I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something missing. It makes me sad, because there is so much good in this novel. I loved the Bible verses that were quoted throughout, giving the characters strength, and did like the unique situation, but I just craved more.

Suspense that keeps you at the edge of your sit, intrigue, drama, danger and love all make up this wonderful tale that pulls you in from the start, not missing a beat. I love how the story was paced.
Kate is on the run wanting to be safe after her husband is killed by the bad guys. I loved her determination, her desire to protect her baby and do what’s right. Even when her faith was lost, i liked reading about her finding it again.
I loved Jake too, despite his hurt he still held on to his faith and both he and his family were wonderful examples to Kate. The romance was definitely slow on the uptake but all the more beautiful.

Expecting Danger by Jennifer Pierce is the second in Small Town Guardians. Pierce is a new to me author so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book and I was pleasantly surprised at how engaging the story is. Readers are drawn immediately into Kate’s story. She’s been on the run from a criminal for months and he just keeps finding her. Kate is quite an amazing young woman, 8 months pregnant and still able to keep her wits about her and escape the man who is pursuing her. Almost caught again, she encounters Jake, a man who won’t take no for an answer. Danger dogs them throughout the book. Would they ever be safe? Would Kate be able to care for her baby and keep him or her safe or would she alwyas be on the run. The author does a great job of keeping interest high with twists and turns to the plot. And I loved the sweet romance that develops between Kate and Jake. The story is full of drama, suspense, and emotional tension. And throughout it all is the tender message of God’s love and beauty of second chances. Readers who like suspense and romance will want to read Expecting Danger.
I was given a complimentary copy of the book through JustReads Tours and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
Just by looking at the cover you know some suspense is going to be happening and boy does it! There is suspense and intrigue from the very beginning and not that slow burning suspense but a rather fast paced kind. Even more so knowing that the main character Kate is eight months pregnant!!
Right away you meet Kate and we know she is on the run because of something she saw. She has been in multiple witness protection locations but to no avail. Danger is still after her. She is bitter at God and feels like he has abandoned her. While on the run she runs in to Jake. He immediately feels drawn to her and wants to help her. She reminds him of his late wife and he struggles with that fact. He doesn’t know if hes drawn to her because he’s trying to replace what he had with his wife or if its because he actually is developing feelings for her.
The love story between them is a slow take. The focus is mainly on the fact that she is on the run. I feel like he developed feelings for her a lot quicker than expected but some fall in love at first sight as they say. Kate is more guarded and although she feels comfortable with him she doesn’t want to get too comfortable.
This being a the second book in the series, you do see the characters in the first book and interact with them once again. This is my first book by Jennifer Pierce as I didn’t read the precious book but I must say that if you enjoy suspenseful books with clean romance in them then you may want to grab these!! I love how the author weaves Bible verses into the characters conversations and it flows beautifully! For me it did not feel preachy or out of place.

Ever since her recovery from a gunshot wound by the same men who murdered her husband, Kate has been on the run for her life. No matter what safe house she has been placed, somehow the killer has managed to find her. Not trusting her protectors, Kate has gone it alone but her pursuers have found her again. If only she knew what they wanted from her. Eight months pregnant, all Kate wants is peace and a safe place to prepare for her baby.
Still grieving the loss of his own wife and unborn child, security expert Jacob Jones cannot ignore Kate when he realizes that she is in danger and needs someone to help her. Even though doing so resurrects unwanted memories, Jacob is determined to win Kate’s trust and make certain she and her baby survive.
Jennifer Pierce is another new author to me so I was unsure what to expect from Expecting Danger. What I found was a fast-paced, suspense-filled tale that kept me scrolling my ereader as fast as I could read. I loved Jacob’s character, an honorable man who could have easily walked away from Kate’s troubles and left her to fend for herself. His faith and integrity shone through and eventually won Kate’s trust and love by the end of the story. The plot was well developed with vivid imagery and strong characterizations. A perfect blend of danger, suspense, romance, and faith, Expecting Danger was a welcome read to fill a few hours of my spare time. I look forward to reading more by this author.

I think this is the first of this author I am coming across.
Danger, drama, intrigue, action, faith and redemption story. Let’s not forget love.
I don’t usually read book blurbs before reading a book but this one drew me in and the story is one you want to read. A tear-jerking story this one is. The pain was real but the redemption, love and second chance was more real.
The author wove an interesting, lip-biting tale to keep on on the edge of their sit wanting to know what’s going to happen next.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
EXPECTING DANGER is the first book I’ve ever read by Jennifer Pierce and it definitely won’t be the last. The twists and turns keep coming and I had to know how it was going to end! Every time I thought I knew where this story was going, a few pages later, Ms. Pierce threw me for a loop and I knew I was wrong!
EXPECTING DANGER is a quick read and unputdownable! If you are looking for a great story with lots of mystery to pull you out of your book slump, you can’t go wrong with EXPECTING DANGER . I’m so excited to read more by Jennifer Pierce. The way Jacob tries to protect Kate over and over again really warmed my heart. He is still trying to deal with the loss of his wife and unborn child and isn’t sure if he’s ready to move on. While he is trying to keep Kate safe he begins to question what is in his heart.
The twists and turns in EXPECTING DANGER are going to keep you up late into the night trying to figure it out. One minute you believe you know whats going to happen to Kate and the next you are sitting there shaking your head, wondering what the heck just happened. Once you start reading, trust me, you aren’t going to be able to stop! When everything is finally revealed, well, you won’t believe it!
EXPECTING DANGER has Kate confronting and dealing with her past even if she doesn’t want to. She is On the run from the men who killed her husband. I thoroughly enjoyed reading EXPECTING DANGER. There is so much going on in this story, but Ms. Pierce does a wonderful job of weaving all the pieces together. I loved how there was a new surprise in almost every chapter and really kept me guessing. Once you finish devouring this story, you are going to want to tell everyone you know about this awesome story of Christian romantic suspense at its finest!

What do you do when you’re pregnant, alone, and running for your life? That’s the situation Kate finds herself in but God had plans for her. Jake happened to be in the right place, at the right time, and with the right set of skills to keep her safe.
Kate had lost her faith in God when her life fell apart so when she found herself surrounded by people whose faith was an intrinsic part of them she was not amused. But Jake and his family showed her what it was like to love others without expecting anything in return.
Even as Kate wrestled with her faith, she found herself falling for the man who had rescued her while still trying to evade the men who wanted her dead.
I enjoyed Expecting Danger, a story that was fraught with excitement and danger and the reminder that no matter our situation God is still with us.

Expecting Danger is the second book in Jennifer Pierce’s Small Town Guardians series. To be honest, I didn’t realize it was part of a series when I started reading. However, I must say that until Maggie and Cody (the leading couple from book one) were introduced- or reintroduced- in the story, I really didn’t feel that way at all. Even then, there was just a brief mention of the past that seemed like perhaps there was some more backstory there. If you haven’t read book one, you can certainly enjoy this as a standalone.
In this story, we meet Kate as she is running for her life after witnessing a crime committed by a very dangerous and very wanted criminal. When her pursuer nearly catches up to her, she is rescued by security expert Jake… and this is all just in the first few pages. Oh yes, the excitement started right from the very start and didn’t let up from there. Oh, and did I forget to mention the most important part? Kate is about 8 months pregnant!
I must say, I do believe that this is the first romantic suspense novel that I’ve read in which the main character and target is pregnant… or at least THIS pregnant anyway. I think that element really did kind of up the danger factor for me, making it all that much more compelling. I couldn’t wait to get to the end to make sure it all worked out okay. The quick pace meant that it was a quick read and I didn’t have to wait too long.
While it IS mentioned in the book blurb, it is important to note that there were a few fairly heartbreaking moments throughout that deal with grief and loss of an unborn child that might be difficult for those sensitive to such issues. I certainly appreciated knowing this upfront myself.
Overall, this was a really unique and interesting read and one that fans of Christian suspense should certainly check out!
**I received a complimentary of this book for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
This book and a new to me author was awesome! She didn’t disappoint that’s for sure! (I will need to go back and read her other book too.)
She tends to draw you into the story without you realizing it!
Fast paced without missing a beat with some twists and turns that I never saw coming. So exciting! This whole book is filled with, hope, love and loss all rolled into one that I really enjoyed.
I especially thought the inspirational verses were especially beautiful and went with the story well.
I loved the wonderful flawed characters who were thrown into oblivion while just trying to get through their everyday lives.
Kate and Jacob were special from the beginning and I admired them as time went on. I found myself cheering for Kate and hoping that she’d come through ok.
I enjoyed passing the time with this awesome story. She didn’t disappoint that’s for sure!
If you love romantic suspense you’ll definitely love this one and it will keep your interest from the first page.
I highly recommend this book. You’ll not be disappointed!
My thanks to Just reads tours for a wonderful read. I was NOT required to write a positive review and all opinions are my own.
This is the second book in a series and I highly recommend you read them in order. I did not receive the first book as part of this review but it is available on kindle unlimited so I was able to read it. Without the first book, I don’t think it would make as much sense as you wouldn’t have the back story of why she’s running for her life.
I enjoyed this book. It was a fast and good read that kept me interested. This is a fast-paced book that doesn’t let up. You’re going to want to carve out some time to read this book because you won’t want to put it down.
Kate feels that God has let her down so she’s not relying on Him anymore. But who can she trust to help her keep her unborn baby safe? Plus, Jake has his work cut out to keep them both safe and get Kate to trust him.
I highly recommend you read this series. It’s fun and fast-paced and a nice clean romance novel.
