What an incredible story and one I couldn’t put down. I’m a lover of myths and legends so when the author started weaving goddesses and gods dating back thousands of years into the story, I was hooked. The characters with all their flaws and insecurities add immense depth to the story. There are times when they leap from the pages and I swear come to life just over my shoulder. The plot is filled with twists and turns, some I didn’t expect or see coming. The action scenes, while compelling, were easy to envision through intricate descriptive narration. The “big bad” I like quite a bit. He reminds me of some of the classic villains in literature. His allurement is his greatest power and he knows exactly how to get in the head of Vivien. The final battle stopped my heart and I couldn’t breathe until it was over. Brilliant!
If you’re looking for a persuasive paranormal book you won’t be able to put down, pick up Bay of Darkness today. I can’t wait for the next installment. Highly recommend!
Favorite Character/Quote: Vivian. I connected with her right away and cheered her on the whole way. She’s an underwhelming heroine in the beginning but once she unleashes her inner power, she kicks butt. Her constant inner conflict between good and evil is believable and adds genuineness to her character.
My Rating: 5 stars
Loved this book!! It’s a complete page turner. I loved the characters, beautifully described scenery, battles between good and evil. There’s mystery, romance, metaphysical, paranormal. It’s a great adventure.
This book is a MUST READ! I could not put this book down. Total page-turner!!!
What a unique, lyrical story populated with vividly drawn characters and beautiful imagery. Bay of Darkness weaves in themes of good and evil and the duality which exists within all of us with our light and shadow sides. Vivien, the heroine, must learn to trust her power of intuition and her psychic abilities not only to realize her own true power, but also to save the world from the threat of darkness.
If you love stories with goddesses and myths and Ireland and California, check out this debut!
After the death of her fiancé, Vivien Kelly discovers her true mission in life and her training begins in Ireland a land steeped in myth and legend. A supernatural dark cloud looms over the Sahara. as she learns the trick of her trade in the Emerald Isle. Does the Celtic God turned demon have anything to do with devastation spreading across the land ? Can Vivien stop his plan to create a New World of Darkness?
This book is full of twists and turns you don’t see coming. When Vivien’s past life collides with her present day life, she and everyone she cares about is set on a course for destruction.
The characters and their situations suck you into the story. The vivid descriptions make you feel like you are right there experiencing the world the story is set in and the roller coaster of emotions with each character. I found myself rooting for them to triumph over evil.
I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it if you love magic, paranormal romance, and fantasy adventures. This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Andrews and it won’t be the last. I look forward to reading more of The Kelly Society Series.
A battle between good and evil where sometimes the lines are crossed. Bay of Darkness is gripping and unique. Vivien’s struggle felt real and I was impressed at how the author made her a badass without making her unlikeable, which happens often. A wonderful romance was interwoven. The novel kept me turning pages. Great read!
Matheson wrote great love stories like Somewhere in Time, and S.K. Andrews does the same in this beautiful tale of loss and love. After a dark force murders the man she loves, Vivian is devastated. Eventually, she heads to Ireland, where she learns magic and the art of combat. Her transformation into a paranormal cleanser takes her to California. There, she forms the Kelly Society. Along with her clan, she prepares to battle the Celtic demon god Dagda, who threatens an apocalyptic end of civilization.
While taking on a Banshee, she meets Neal Harrington, and she not only falls in love but discovers her soulmate. I could identify with Vivian’s fight with the dark side of herself. We all have to deal with our shadow selves. Nicholas adds another layer of conflict when Vivian has disturbing dreams about him.
Having visited Half Moon Bay myself, I appreciated the authenticity and richness in the descriptions. I could see the Java Hut and the houses with polished wood floors, Tiffany lamps, and booklined walls. It made me feel I was hanging out in the lovely bay area town. The love story moved me, and the climax was a visual whirlwind that kept me glued to the pages. It was like watching a movie. I highly recommend this book.
From the very start, this book grabbed my attention and held it as I kept turning the pages. Bay of darkness has a great build-up to the final boss fight, with an ending that is incredibly satisfying. And who doesn’t need a good Neal in their life? I absolutely love his character. He was the kind of guy who is not only sweet and gentle, but he is also the kind of person you want by your side during a fight.
Secrets of the past were revealed one by one, each more exciting and complicated than the last. Then the secrets all came together nicely at the end in a very satisfying way. This was such a great read, and I’m definitely looking for more from this author!
Vivien’s life is upended when her fiance is murdered. This sets her off on a journey of self discovery because Vivien is told she is no ordinary mortal-she is actually a paranormal cleanser. Her mission is to defeat the evil Dagda, a celtic god turned demon. The story takes the reader from New York to Ireland to California and the action throughout is so vividly written I felt like I was watching a movie as I read. Without giving away details, I will say that Vivien has a true heroine’s journey, a dilemma born of ancient myth and legend and rises to the occasion in brilliant fashion. Recommended.
