Waiting Bride:
Two characters, long betrothed by heir parents, come back together. Will they find happiness with each other or another? Wonderful characters and an engaging storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was most startled at the twists!
The Long Return:
Best childhood friends. A proposal gone wrong. Life continuing on after death only for the dead to return. Can the past be rewritten? There were amazing characters and quite the engaging storyline. It most definitely pulled at my heartstrings.
Duke’s Saving Grace:
The almost a nun aspect reminded me a bit of The Sound Of Music. I really enjoyed this wounded warrior romance. It was a slow fade that started with much agony and ire. I enjoyed following the multifaceted healing process in this rags to riches regency.
New Home for the Duke:
So much grief. My heart is heavy. This book showcases three reactions to great loss, including that of children. It hurt, but I enjoyed wading through the sorrow with these characters.
I have read each of these books individually as they were released. I am a big fan of Rose Pearson’s work and I would definitely recommend any of her books of you enjoy “historical REGENCY” romance. Each story has the lead characters with an engaging storyline that will keep your interest piqued from start to finish. Lots of action, drama, and even fun times. Always with a HEA ending and totally clean reading.
I did receive ARC copies of these books. HOwever, this is my voluntary, totally honest and completely personal review.
VICKI FROM WYOMING
A great collection of 5 books. They are not very long, but they are very nice, being my favourite the second one in the series, The Long Return.
The Waiting Bride
3.5 Stars
“Earnestly awaiting your return,
Marianne Weston”
Every letter to Lord Philip Galsworthy from his waiting bride closed with the same words and they always made his heart sink.
He knew the words were not for him, but for their families who took great delight in reading the correspondence between them. In truth, Marianne had told him in secret, with great relief to himself, that she too was not excited by the long-held expectation of their marriage. So, by excusing himself through duty to King and Country, Philip managed to hold off the wedding for a year with hopes that the two families’ interest in seeing them married would wane. With more effort he also managed to extend his station in India for another year, and then another, but now there was nothing more he could do.
He had to return home, and the wedding plans would be already in motion by the time his ship saw the shores of England again. Their ages would not permit any more postponements, and so it was time for him to return and fulfill his duty to house and family.
A very interesting read, Philip & Marianne are betrothed at their fathers’ behest but neither wants to marry the other but are resigned to it. The novel is well written & the pace is good. The characters are well portrayed & have depth. I didn’t warm to Philip at all to begin with. I found him to be self centred & selfish he even went to India for a year to avoid his betrothed, however as the book progressed I found myself warming to him & realised he was a shy, reticent man who realised almost too late how he felt. Marianne was very patient with Philip but I found her being broken hearted a tad OTT, she didn’t know him well enough to be so distressed. The ages of the pair are not mentioned anywhere but I felt that they were both very immature & each acted like teenagers for much of the time. The villain is villainous, I was surprised by his exit. An enjoyable read & I look forward to more in the series
The Long Return
Arabella Marchmont was destroyed when she found out that Jacob died in the war. Especially as it was her fault he was there in the first place. She just couldn’t take her best friend seriously when he proposed, and before she could rectify her mistake he was already gone.
The agonizing wait for him to return began, but tragedy struck leaving Arabella to only wonder what could have been. Jacob was gone from this world, and life had to move on.
When the Earl of Winchester proposes, everyone understood that it was time, even Arabella.
But just as she starts to set her mind to the marriage, a familiar face limps back to Grosvenor Square.
Shockingly, her Jacob has returned, but is he even the same Jacob that left all that time ago.
Dilemmas, threats & a vengeful suitor all add to this page turning novel. The pace is good & the characters well fleshed. Arabella is no shrinking violet & is willing to fight for Jacob. I liked Jacob but at times wished he’d been more decisive, I felt he relied on his damaged leg a little too much & thought of himself as flawed rather than a returning soldier who had everything to live for. I felt the ending was a little rushed & bloodthirsty me wanted the villain to suffer far more!
The Duke’s Saving Grace
4.5 Stars
Deborah is an orphan, who as a baby was left with the nuns at The Abbey & she would gladly spend her life saving others. During the Napoleonic the war she found her purpose tending to the sick and injured. Nowthe end is in sight for the war so her life wouldn’t just continue in the abbey as she gets ready to take her vows and become a nun.
However Lady Markham sister of the wealthy Duke of Harksbury’s estate calls for someone from the abbey to tend to him. Having returned from the war himself in need of healing, Lord Edward Abernathy needs help & Deborah is chosen to be his nurse
I’ve loved every book I’ve read from the author, they are a traditional read, well written with characters that you can relate to & fall in love with. Deborah is so strong & determined but also very caring & loving. Abernathy returned to England injured both physically & emotionally. A lovely romance of wounded hero & heroine from a totally different class, their road to a HEA had me captivated & I read the book in a sitting. My only slight quibble is that I wish Deborah had at least once called him Edward
A New Home for the Duke
4 Stars
Jenny Edgington took the position of governess to John & Mary, the two children of the Duke Carrington while he finished his duties overseas. Their mother Martha had died recently & Carrington sent the children home. Having recently suffered the loss of her parents, Jenny was more than able to empathise with the children even though their behaviour is atrocious.
Carrington isn’t coping well with the death of his wife & he’s resorted to the brandy bottle, when he strikes his superior officer he’s sent home in disgrace. At this point in the story I thoroughly disliked Stephen & had very little sympathy for him. He was so lucky that Jenny was made of ‘stern stuff’ & squared up to him at every turn. She was the glue who was keeping his family together, and helping his children heal from their loss, just might be the one to help him heal too.
A well written well paced story dealing with a grieving family & a young woman who through love, kindness & forthrightness helped to heal the family. Well portrayed characters, I really liked Jenny & admired her grit & determination, I’m not sure I would have stayed & dealt with two unmanageable children & then a drunk of a father. I disliked Stephen for the majority of the book but he did redeem himself to some extent, I did wonder if he fell for Jenny on the rebound though & would have liked an epilogue to show that they did have their HEA
Four lovely reads that I read individually & thoroughly enjoyed each one
THE WAITING BRIDE:
A very sweet clean romance. There is some kissing but nothing else of note. The lead female character, Miss Marianne Weston, is a strong character. She is to endure a betrothal arranged by her father, Viscount Bridgestone. She is agreeable to the match. Her betrothed, Lord Philip Galsworthy, is apprehensive and leaves for India to distance himself. After one year of correspondence between himself and Marianne, he must return home. Philip’s character has a gentle strength. However, he makes panicked, skittish decisions because of the burden placed upon him to marry. This causes chaos between Marianne and Philip and Marianne draws the attention of Lord Henry Redmond. Henry is bound and determined to marry Marianne. Philip has to get his head out of his $ss and claim his beloved betrothed. Danger and drama, lies and manipulation occur causing Marianne to give up all hope on Philip. Philip must gain Marianne’s forgiveness and hopefully has not lost his chance with her. Henry will not concede to Philip and a deadly battle brews between them. A very exciting read.
THE LONG RETURN:
This is a sweet clean romance of a second chance romance. The H/h grew up together. As adults the H found out he was in love with the h. When he proposed she thought he was jesting? He was not. He took his broken heart and joined the Army. Since then the h regretted turning him away as she too realized she was in love with him. There is so much pain and suffering in this story. When the H was declared dead, the h was devastated. Her mother insisted she marry and connected her with a wolf in sheep’s clothing. When the H returned alive everyone was ecstatic. But the h’s mother had already promised her to the wolf. The H thought he no longer had a chance with the h and let her go. The h did not like the wolf and broke up with him. The wolf knew that the h was in love with the H and would do anything and would stoop so low to sabotage their relationship anyway possible. The wolf made good on his threats and endangered many. But how could they fight back? A very good story.
THE DUKE’S SAVING GRACE:
“The Duke’s Saving Grace” is a gentle heartfelt romance. Miss Deborah Harland is an orphan who was raised in the abbey and had planned to take her vows to become a nun. She is dear gentle soul who wanted to whatever was needed to serve the Lord. She knew no other life. When she meets Lord Abernathy, a duke, who needs medical and spiritual attention to heal after the war ravaged his body. She experiences feelings she is unaccustomed to e.g. anger, anguish and confusion. The duke has imprisoned himself in darkness. He feels despair, sorrow, anger, resentment and hopelessness. He is unable to look at himself when part of his face has been injured. There are many emotions that transpire between Deborah and the duke while they work together and get to know each other. Not all interactions between them is agreeable. In the beginning, the duke was downright hostile. A situation arises that gives him hope to mingle in society again. However, the Duke had a severe and negative reaction and relapsed into darkness once again. A wonderful story of the determination of the human spirit. The power of love and acceptance reigns. A very good read and I do recommend it.
A NEW HOME FOR THE DUKE:
Rarely has a short story filled me with such emotion, tension, fierce desire and devotion for the characters. The only problem with this story is that it was too short. I got to the end and thought “is this it?”. The loss of a loved one regardless of whether it be spouse, father, mother, brother or sister have much in common. The direction each person takes their grief is up to them. This story covers the different POV’s of four characters; Stephen, who is the Duke, his son John, his daughter Mary and their governess Jenny. Each has dealt with their sorrow so differently it was hard to see how any could come together to cross the depth of their despair into the present world. But Jenny was a God send to the Duke’s family. This is a must read. I was a little disappointed in the ending. It felt too abrupt and made me wonder if the Duke’s affection for Jenny was what is called in today’s terms “a rebound relationship”. Other than that, it is genuinely worth the time to read.
A four book series full of confusion, twist and turns that brings the couples together in love when they fight for their place in the Ton. I loved reading these books and as with all the books written by Rose Pearson I found them enjoyable and hard to put down. I recommend this box set and all books written by Rose. A great writer with great story lines and excellent characters with lovely ever afters.
“The Returned Lords of Grosvenor Square” by Rose Pearson
I have read each of these four stories… and truly liked them all. Of course, I liked 1 or 2 of them more that the others. If you like clean Regency stories with plenty of heart I think you will like the stories in this box set. They are worth the read… Happy Reading !!
Wow I love Recency reads. And this one takes you into a great storyline. Phillip is set to Marry Marianne. Marianne is not sure if this is a Marriage he really wants. This read tells the story of not knowing what each other feel. They have written back and forth. Will they get there communication straightened out. This is a fantastic story written by this Author with a great creative mind. The read draws you in and is a real page turner. You will not want to put the book down. This is a fantastic read. I highly recommend.
