WOW, what a read! The plot was intense, modern, edgy and thrilling and held me captive all the way through! The characters fairly leapt off the page, and the tension was palpable. And, as if all of that didn’t make this the perfect read, there’s a massive twist at the end that I totally didn’t see coming which left me reeling! If you are looking for a book that you just CAN’T put down, then this is DEFINITELY the book for you! I’m REALLY looking forward to the next one in this series!!!
This story is amazing!
The theme is how far and how come should we perfect society.
We follow a bunch of characters in a web were we never really know who is the bottom line pulling the strings. It like they believe the cause.
There is the cop investigating the murders, the female scientist framed by her lover/boss, said boss, the mad scientist and the brained washed female guiny-pig that lives in the Colony.
The cool thing about this book is that the “bad” guys twisted vision almost seams to make sense. Almost…
And the final twist – unbelievable! Even if you only read this story and not the rest of the serie, it will be worth it! Really!
Still I will love to see what will happen next – It can only be more terrifying.
Great ending twist that you don’t see coming!
Really enjoyed this book. Written so you could actually picture what was going on in your mind. Not overly descriptive, but just enough. With the way things are today, I can see this happening. Scary thought.
Ending kinda sucked. Always leaves one wondering what happened.
Interesting original setting and the writer knows her pharmacology. But the book stuck at 50% point. Also too many POV characters in my opinion. I skipped some chapters. Otherwise, it’s a good book.
This book grabbed my attention from the beginning and didn’t let go until the last page. That being said, I do have a few complaints about it.
There were so many characters and at least 4 different POV’s in the book, making it difficult to keep track at times. One of the main characters, Layla, had a prominent part in the book, but at times it was hard to see why she was important. Her part of the story lagged at times and since I wasn’t sure what part she played in the book, it became a little boring.
The story revolves around several deaths that seem to be drug related, but nobody can figure out what drug is involved. This explains the involvement of the DEA. Then, you have the CEO of a biotech company who is involved in insider trading, bringing in the FBI. His assistant and lover, Allison, is another main part of the book. I have to admit that she was a whiny, annoying character, acting like a young kid most of the time instead of an adult.
Add in the cult-like Pain Colony, where people endure torture in order to cleanse themselves of the poison of the world and you have a strange mix. By the end of the book, it finally all ties in together and the ending really came out of left field. When the truth behind the Colony were revealed, it was truly unexpected.
The author had a good story in mind, but it might have been better to break this one complex and convoluted book into two separate books. There was plenty of action and loads of pretty deep scientific explanations, which were hard to follow at times, especially in the audiobook version.
The narrators did a great job. My only complaint with the narration is that the two narrators spoke at different speeds, so you either had to listen to one at a too slow pace or the other at a too fast pace. I was given the chance to listen to this audiobook by the publisher/narrator/author and chose to review it.
I found the twist to be pretty predictable. The characters were well written but mostly unlikeable. The plot was slow, and was hard to get through in the end. It wasn’t as bad as some of the fiction I’ve read, but it wasn’t a super enjoyable read.
