Well, I personally think Sprinkles is the real detective plus a great guard dog. I love this series. The characters are great, the mysteries fun to figure out, and it has Grams and a cute Dalmatian! How much better can it get? Oh, much better, it also has boozy pies!

Izzy James seems to be having a successful day at the Sunshine Springs Fall Festival until a local celebrity is killed by a person in a monkey suit. After the last murder, Izzy promised to keep her nose out of things, but that was before the town’s sheriff (Mitch) found himself in a dire situation. Now it is up to Izzy to navigate around the paparazzi, keep her investigation on the download, and try to see if she can track down the killer before he/she strikes again.
This is a page-turning, sometimes laugh-out-loud cozy mystery that will delight readers who enjoy well-written mysteries with amateur sleuths, great characters, and tons of suspects to choose from.

This is the first book I’ve read in the Drunken Pie Cafe cozy series and I absolutely loved it. I didn’t feel like I had missed anything regarding the characters or Sunshine Springs by starting with the fourth book. I think the idea of a cafe selling pies made with different types of alcohol is different and ingenious. When Izzy finds herself a witness to murder while serving at her festival booth, she tries her best to stay out of the investigation despite her obvious interest. With a strange invitation, she becomes embroiled in the investigation and finds several townspeople at the top of her list of suspects. Armed with her background as a lawyer and her curious nature, she sets out too solve another murder in her hometown. Izzy’s friends and family provide a wonderful support system for her and made you want the same group to have your own back. I highly recommend this book and I know that I’ll be going right back to the beginning to read the first in this series, Peach Cobbler Poison.

Small towns are built on a lynchpin of community. Our boozy pie sleuth never could have gotten her shop open without the support of her Grams, and the help of other local businesses.
When celebrity Big Al comes to town, he works on tearing down the reputation of others, falsely claiming food poisoning at the restaurant run by Bruce.
Battling wanna be girlfriends Tiffany and Jenny fight over attention from Big Al, and his old friend George seems shattered by his loss.
Will ego and selfishness year this wine country community apart?
Humorous KU small town murder mystery.
I received an advance copy from Booksprout. I read this book on Kindle Unlimited. I have read most of the books in this series on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited.
Izzy is trying to live a quiet life, running her Drunkin Pie store and just stay out of trouble. With Sprinkles, her Dalmation dog with her she is begged by the sheriff to help out. As much as Izzy doesn’t want to do this, she can’t let her hometown stay in the national spotlight forever. I have enjoyed all the stories in this series, the characters are like close family members now. No, I didn’t figure out who the killer was. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Booksprout.

There’s monkey business going on in Sunshine Springs. Izzy is determined to stay out of investigating after the last time, but events at the Sunshine Springs Fall Festival have Izzy, Grams, her friends, and even Sprinkles involved. I love this series, the characters, and the way things seem to mushroom out of control.

Isabelle “Izzy” James was at her pie booth at the Sunshine Springs Fall Festival, representing her pie shop, the Drunken Pie Café. Grams walked up to tell her Sprinkles had won a first-prize ribbon in the pet show which was a new event this year. She was about to hand Grams a slice of pie when she startled at a big, brown bear she saw in her peripheral vision! Grams laughed and explained the costume contest was starting.
Her best friend, Molly, walked over with her boyfriend, Scott. They told Izzy that two women had been in a “cat fight” over Big Al. Big Al Martel had been a Hollywood star in numerous action films and was currently one of the hottest names in Hollywood. He walked with a swagger and had lots of women fussing over him, but Izzy thought he really wasn’t very attractive and was sort of a jerk. He was in Sunshine Springs now to scout out locations for a new restaurant he wanted to open in town and even started to look at some houses. He just might be their new neighbor! But all he’s caused was trouble with the media following him around everywhere.
Bruce Burnham approached them. Bruce was the owner of a successful restaurant in Sunshine Springs until Big Al ate there and claimed – with no proof – that he had gotten food-poisoning. The press was more than happy to publish the lie. No one listened to Bruce when he tried to fight back against the celebrity. But he would be happy to see Big Al leave town for good!
Big Al approached next and tried to flirt with Izzy. She didn’t respond, so he took his slice of pie and walked away. Someone in a monkey costume approached and, without speaking, made it known he wanted to buy a whole pie. The monkey walked directly to Big Al, opening the pie box as he did so, and smashed the entire pie right into Big Al’s face! As everyone around burst into laughter, the monkey pulled out a huge knife and stabbed Big Al in the chest and chaos erupted!
Although Izzy had sworn her “detective days” were over and tried to stay out of the criminal case, due to the media frenzy, the Sheriff begged her for help in finding Big Al Martel’s murderer. It seemed impossible to track down the person at the Festival dressed in the monkey suit – they didn’t even know if it was a man or woman! It’s time for Izzy and her Dalmatian, Sprinkles, to head up the investigation and find the fiend before he or she strikes again!
This was such a cute mystery! The characters the reader meets, such as Grams and the other townspeople, are fun and quirky, keeping the reader amused. The story line is well-paced and clever, encouraging the reader to follow along and find out the murder’s identity. Grab your copy and enjoy the pursuit in this awesome cozy mystery!
Absolutely loved this cozy mystery! The characters, as usual, were quirky, funny, devious and smart. The story was well developed and kept the reader guessing until the end.
