I was starting to think I knew what I was dealing with here at the university best known as Villain Academy. Not so much. But can I really trust a shocking revelation from someone who’s proven to be my enemy? There’s no way to answer that without diving in. If my mother is still out there alive, I have to uncover the truth. Even if it means putting myself back in the hands of the mages who’ve … who’ve betrayed me before.
The other scions have my back now, with all the trouble that’s brought them. How much more will they have to sacrifice before we can find some kind of peace? I’m ready to fight for my newfound life, my family, and the guys I’m falling for… but this battle may bring more casualties than I can bear.
Corrupt Alchemy is the fifth book in a university-age paranormal academy series. Expect magical villainy, a tough heroine who bends to no one’s will, a dollop of steam, and a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers reverse harem romance where there’ll be no choosing required.

So honestly, this wasn’t my favorite book so far of the Royals of Villain Academy series by Eva Chase. Don’t get me wrong. I still enjoyed it, but it had some slow sections for me so I wasn’t gripped like I have been with the other books in this series. I did enjoy the narration of the audiobook, that was still stellar
In terms of the story, the main focus of this book was finding and recovering Rory’s mother from the joymancers. We get to experience the inner conflict that Rory has with what will happen once they find her mother (for her role with the Barons, how the fearmancers will react to the joymancers, if innocent people will die with the battle, etc.). I thought they were very valid feelings and I would have been apprehensive too. I think the assistant is definitely hiding/up to something (I am super suspicious of her btw haha).
I thought Malcolm rose up the ladder in my eyes as one of Rory’s men, with him being there for her while onsite. I loved their date in the arcade, brought me back to my childhood memories (especially DDR haha) and made me smile and giggle, it was a nice change of pace with this sometimes darker themed series. I was totally wrong about Debra and I won’t give things away, but I didnt see that coming and hope Rory can find strength to overcome that. I wasn’t shocked with how Rory was treated while captured by the joymancers. Eva teed it up nicely with making the joymancers more of the bad guys than the actual bad guys (if that made sense haha).
So overall, I thought this book was integral to the plot, but because of how it had to happen was slower for me and somewhat repeating, so I wasn’t as enthralled as I had been with the others. Solid 4 stars from me. Oh, I think the new developments with Connar are going to ABSOLUTELY DESTROY ME and I am dreading listening to book 6 hahaha. I kinda want to skip over it and start with book 7 which hopefully has them all back together and not hurt or whatever.
In terms of narration, great job by Meg and Stephen again! I heart was crushed when the devastation started, I laughed/giggled with the date night, and was anxious and dreading what’s going on with Connar. I thought the performances were on point, no complaints from me! 5/5 stars on the narration Can’t wait to dive into Book 6 (even if its going to break my heart and give me heart palpitations
I couldn’t put it down, I sat through the book in one sitting and just wanted more, I can’t wait to start the next book.
Damn, poor Rory…
She’s gone through a lot in such a short time in coming to this school and mastering her powers and then losing her familiar while trying to save her mom without so much bloodshed. The guys all finding a way into her life/heart, while dealing with major parental issues that are literally life/death to be an heir to their pentacle. On to the next book, hoping all comes to a semi-full circle conclusion that they can just enjoy! #HappyReading
Rory and Malcolm’s relationship takes a turn for the better in this book. Rory has to handle two major changes in this book. One is good and one is not. This is a series book but this book you could read as a stand alone because everything got recapped in this book. Which as a person reading this as a series I didn’t like that part of the book. Big changes are happening and this book kicks them off, it will be interesting to see what happens now.
I’ve been loving Eva Chase’s Royals of Villain Academy series. It’s wonderfully imaginative in both plot and world-building, and it’s cast, from Rory (just the kind of tough gal I love) on firm is perfect. That’s certainly the case within book 5, Corrupt Alchemy. Magic, action, a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers reverse harem romance with some nice steam, good vs bad and pretty much everything else you’d want. Totally yummy and highly recommended.
Rory and her guys haven’t gotten a break yet. Between the scion’s parents wanting to get rid of Rory, the guys trying to stand on their own protecting her, learning her mother may not be dead and just trying to survive school, she has her hands full. Each book is action-packed, but this one is non-stop. I love that all of the guys know about each other and are ok with it. Rory really is changing the scions, but the Baron’s aren’t giving up yet. People close to her are being targeted and she is at a loss for what to do now. This is a fantastic series and I am loving every bit of it. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
Rory’s mom might be alive??? Wow things just keep heating up. This time things really start rolling and who knows where this crazy train will stop! Every page just gets better and better. I can’t wait to see what is in store for all the Scions in the next installment!
I was gifted an ARC and will GLADLY leave a voluntary, honest review.
So many feels!!! Mainly, wanting to scream and cry how could you, at Ms. Chase!! I did not foresee two huge events happening in this edition. I literally cried!! What a huge testament to how powerfully these scenes were executed! I’m on pins waiting for the crew’s reunion, I’m having some anxiety as they each just seem to keep taking hits. Things are ramping up and uncertainty is a huge cloud overshadowing their actions. Rory is such a positive being, that I have to wonder if something terrible is coming which will fully challenge her ideals and her place amidst the two factions. I am overjoyed to see her depend upon each of her fellow scions! They’ve all been tested and judged. It’s almost time to take down the barons! Will the new character be an ally or a foe! So much angst!!! And I’m utterly addicted to this unforgettable saga! Huge thank yous to Eva Chase for keeping the plot fast flowing and fresh! I love this universe!
Corrupt Alchemy is Book 5 in the Royals Of Villain Academy series by Eva Chase. As with all the previous books, Eva Chase has woven an awesome story with phenomenal characters, suspense, magic, political intrigue, passion, etc. Rory has been found not guilty of murder and freed. Malcolm has finally apologized for his past behavior and is becoming one of her scions. Rory finds out her birth mother is alive. An event happens in this book that is exceedingly sad (no spoiler). The relationships between Rory and her men are progressing nicely. I am on pins and needles to find out what is happening with Connar now that his mother has taken him. So much is happening in this story that it definitely keeps you on your toes. This is a fast paced, action filled, page turning tale with lots of twists/turns, some of which I did not see coming. If you want a amazing story, then this is the series you are looking for and one I highly recommend. I love this story/series and am anxious for the next book to see what Eva Chase has in store for Rory and her guys. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Rory and her boys are back with anther story full of mystery, surviving what the Barons throw their way, and the usual issues with their relationship. I loved the writing and the twists that occurred. I had to keep my fingers crossed through the whole book. I a always surprised with what happens in this series and was not disappointed in this story. I loved how some secrets are revealed but I know there are more coming. Just a great read that kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat which still makes this an amazing series to read. I love how Rory and her boys relationships are perfectly woven into a great ongoing story.
Poor Rory cannot get a break. She’s finally found not guilty of murder and before she can relax, she’s told her birth mother may still be alive. It’s a hard and very sad journey on the way to see if the rumor is true.
Plus, there are repercussions for more than one of the guys and their defending of Rory during the trial.
So much happened in this book, but I can’t say more without giving away spoilers.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
Wow! Poor Rory…this book has action and subterfuge in every step! As in each previous book, there’s tons of political intrigue, secrets and deception. Except this go round all her young scions are her allies and not her enemies. She still doesn’t know if she can trust her mother’s supposed best friend/blacksuit, but she has little choice right now but to follow her lead. This book is primarily the search for her birth mother. And true to form a few things are revealed along the way. My heart goes out to Rory and the young heirs. Looks like this book is setting us up for a HUGE follow up! I for one can’t wait!

******** May Contain Some Spoilers ********
I will try my absolute best to keep spoilers to a minimum or completely out of my review. Sometimes it can be hard to do so.
Eva is one heck of a writer with all the twist and turns she is throwing into this storyline. Holy monkey babies, some of these twists I didn’t see coming. This book starts off with Rory, Jude, Connar, and Declan are all worried about Malcolm. Oh, the idea of Rory’s bio mother still being alive is addressed near the beginning as well. Something happens to Jude and Connar. The barons make changes in Declan’s life. Rory gets into a situation that made me cry. I’m worried that the relationships between all the scions are in trouble. The ending has you wondering WTH happened to Connar. The ending is not a real cliffhanger, just leaves you wanting more!
