An irreverent gentleman, an abandoned wife, and a secret marriage. But is anything really what it seems? Fun-loving Percy, the Captain Lord Granston, is everyone’s favorite cad. But his easy charm hides a dark secret. He’s plagued by nightmares and fears he’s losing his grip on reality. Then his wife arrives in London. The only problem is, he doesn’t remember marrying the woman. Twice-widowed … woman.
Twice-widowed Finola Tenney Simmons has lost her hard-earned fortune. But she’s devised a scheme to reclaim it from her greedy stepson. All she needs is a pretend husband, with her old acquaintance Captain Granston playing the part. There’s just one complication. The captain inexplicably believes they’re actually married.
When Percy learns Finola isn’t his wife, he agrees to keep up the lie to secure her fortune, if she helps him settle his family affairs before he loses his mental faculties. But living as husband and wife leads them into temptation, and they devise a new plan. They’ll keep each other’s secrets, embark on a brief affair, and both get what they want before their fake marriage ends. It will work like a charm, as long as neither of them falls in love.

Third Husband’s The Charm is book four in Harrow’s Finest Five series by Nancy Yeager. I loved this book! I couldn’t put it down. Captain Percival Carlyle, Earl of Granston is my favorite Yeager hero so far. He is witty and clever, handsome and debonair and yet so vulnerable and real. In all the other books Granston is at times the comedic relief, but in this book, we get to see his heart and the very real struggles that he faces and hides from his friends. Some twists and turns kept me glued to the page. I loved his attraction to the heroine Finola. “…he held out his hand to her. And when she glanced at his face, it was full of hope and kindness. And something more. His hooded eyes, his parted lips, his pulse jumping in his throat. The captain desired her after all. She stretched out her hand and twined her fingers in his. He moved slowly, languidly, to close the distance between them. He traced her cheekbone with his free hand, then ran a finger over her lips, watching her face with the intensity she remembered so well from the night they had met, the same heated gaze she had seen so often from him these past few days. It told her he noticed her, he saw her, and he didn’t want to stop looking at her. She didn’t know why she had doubted his desire for even a second. ‘Are you aware,’ he whispered in her ear, ‘that I’ve sailed two oceans and three seas and visited four continents, and you are the most exquisite woman I’ve ever seen?”
There are several very steamy scenes in this story. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
A very charming historical romance. Full of secrets, drama, misunderstandings, working together to make a love happen and last. Very nicely researched this entertaining read will have you remembering it long after it’s been read. I know I will.

Hilarious and outstanding! I remembered this book long after the last page was turned! A gentleman who thinks he is loosing his mind! A desperate widow interfering family and relatives! Finola has a greedy stepson and not a penny to her name she previously struck up flirtation with Percy how hard can it be to convince him they got married? Percy is plagued by nightmares and is convinced this might save him when he has to leave the family as the nightmares consume him! Finola realizes that there is so much more to Percy then meets the eye! Can these 2 make a match of it? They just might put aside their shenanigans and fall deeply in love! This book is amazing!
Third Husband’s the Charm by Nancy Yeager is the exciting tale of Captain Percival Carlyle, Earl of Granston and Mrs. Finola Tenney Simmons. It seems he’s married to her. He remembers one enchanting evening dancing with her in Buenos Aires, but he certainly remembers no wedding, and more importantly, no wedding night. He certainly would remember that, but now, it seems, she is at the Metropolitan Police Headquarters instigating a search for him; the charge: desertion. He had no choice. He would take her to his home, work all of this out, and after a while, divorce her. It would be the worst scandal his family had ever seen, but far better than marriage. Finola had her own agenda. She knew that when she explained it all to him, he would understand, and help her.
What a terrific book! Very different than most Regency Romances. There was a plot, intricate and detailed. There were actual people, with actual problems instead of the usual insipid, society doesn’t approve, plots. Both of the protagonists were interesting characters who earned their places in the story. It was such a different story. I enjoyed it. I recommend it.
I received a free ARC of Third Husband’s the Charm from the author. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own.
Book #3 in the Harrow’s Finest Five series, Third Husband’s the Charm can be read without knowledge of the previous books.
Percy, the Captain Lord Granston, is nice and charming, despite the secret that threatens his health and future. He has no plans to get married, let alone having children, as a way to avoid passing on his secret disease. He’s planning a new trip to South America when he’s taken to the police station to meet his wife – a wife he had no idea existed!
Finola Simmons, twice a widow, is in big trouble. And the only person who could help her is the nice captain she’d met in Buenos Aires during Carnival. In order to be sure the captain would go along with her plan, Finola forges a marriage certificate and faces the man in London, expecting to tell him the truth asap. However, Captain Lord Granston ends up accepting their marriage, due to his disease, and Finola gets tangled in a web of lies.
I enjoyed reading this book, but it took me some time to warm to Finola, because of her lies. However, as the story develops, we can see she’s a nice person – a little naive, but lucky for having met another good soul in Percy.
This was my first book by Ms. Yeager and I can’t wait to catch up with this series.
Third Husband’s the Charm. By Nancy Yeager
This is the forth book in the series and it was so good! I got home from work tonight and got my comfortable clothes on and was ready to snuggle up with my book and then I remembered I finished this book last night! I was so disappointed! I just couldn’t help it! I flew through this book! I just loved all of the wonderful characters in this book. Finola and Percy make such an adorable couple.
Finola was married to a beast of a man who cheated on her and abused. When he died her life did not get any better! As a young widowed woman all alone in the 1800’s she had no rights to the wealth her and her husband accumulated before he died. She was erroneously jailed and accused of murdering her husband. She lost her money and her property. She had to think fast how can she turn this terrible life around. She remembered the night under the stars with the handsome Captain Perceval Carlyle, Earl of Granston. She decided to convince her friends that she and the captain were married. Her friends had partaken at the festivities and didn’t know what really happened.
Percy son of the former Earl of Granston. His father had lost his mind and Percy was afraid it was happening to him too. So when Finola came to London to find her missing husband he thought he really had married her.
This book has twists and turns and is really very exciting. I laughed and I cried. I cheered at the end. This was a great book and totally worth the read! I highly recommend this book to anyone!
Twice-widowed Finola Tenney Simmons has lost her hard-earned fortune. But she’s devised a scheme to reclaim it from her greedy stepson. All Finola needs is a pretend husband. Unfortunately or possibly fortunately she chooses a man she met briefly, fun-loving Percy, the Captain Lord Granston.
Percy only remembers bits and pieces of his supposed wedding night and truly believes they are married. Although he learns the truth he still agrees to help her.
Can this ruse and pretend marriage lead to true love for this pair?
I can’t seem to get enough of Nancy Yeager’s books. This series has sucked me in and just will not let go.
I gave this latest of the Harrow’s Finest Series 4.8 of 5.0 stars for story line and characterization. These books just keep getting better.
I received a complimentary copy of this book to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
Finola’s second husband was dastardly tricking her into marry him for money and his son was even worse with his selfish evil ways. I could understand why she would try to use a man she formed a connection with to try to save some of her inheritance. Percy had moments he couldn’t remember and at times thought he was going crazy, so he accepted that he married Finola without question and beat himself for leaving her vulnerable to the dastardly Lord Pembroke. I loved his sisters especially Zinnia and her rescue dog Howard. I can’t wait to see if they find men worth of them too.
I truly cannot read enough of Nancy’s books. Each one has been everything I love in historical romance and in this one, I could only feel for Percy, Captain Lord Granston. What everyone in today’s society fears, he thinks he is losing his mind, knows it is inevitable due to having happened to his father. On the ouside he is a charmer and easy going, but the inner turmoil is deep.
When Finola Tenney Simmons, a widow twice over comes and claims she is his wife, he thinks it could be true, but just cannot remember.
Of course Finola has a reason for deceiving the Captain. She needs help gaining back her lost fortune from her last husband’s son. Having met Percy in the past she thought he could help her.
A story of deception, fears, secrets, strong emotions and a romance that builds and had me only wishing happiness for these two,
Prepare to be enthralled and not be able to stop once you have turned the first page. Nancy Yeager is quickly becoming one of my go to authors and I look forward to her next story and cannot wait to see what her imagination brings forth!
Book three in the Harrow’s Finest Five Series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Captain Lord Granston Percy and twice widowed Finola Tenney Simmons’s story has secrets they hid from each other. I enjoyed watching their story come together. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
An entertaining read.
Now, this little gem was such an entertaining read. The book opens with Percy having a bit of a problem not that he is the only one no so does Finola. Guess what Percy problem is Finola. This book is full of deception, drama, high emotions all mixed into a story of a man who is fearing he will have the same problem his father has and falling in love with a person who was forced to lie. The author took on some serious issues and did a grand job. I have high praise for this one how you check it out. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Both have secrets they are hiding, but both find their burdens are more easily carried when the two share them.
Their partnership grew steadily, making the romance believable.
It was great to see the friends all rally around their newest member with no thought to station or past. “You’re one of us now.”
Captain Lord Percival Carlyle, the Earl of Granston, is known to be fun loving and happy go lucky, but his charming facade hides his fear that he is slowly losing his mind as his father did before him. So when a wife he doesn’t remember marrying arrives in London, Percy is appalled but not disbelieving.
Finola Tenney Simmons has spent nine years in a marriage to a volatile man only to find herself now twice widowed and deprived of her share of the fortune she earned in an Argentinian silver mine with her late husband. Now her stepson has claimed her hard won assets for his own. Finola devises a plan to get back her fortune: she just needs a fake husband to do so and Captain Granston, who she met on a drunken night in Argentina, is perfect for the job. Only, Percy truly believes they’re married, though Finola can’t fathom why. Even stranger, while she insists on a divorce, he wishes to remain married.
When Percy learns the truth, he’s furious at Finola’s deception, but he comes to understand the position she was in and agrees to keep the charade if she helps him with his family, most especially his sister, Zinny, who has bonded with Finola. But with the physical attraction and genuine connection blooming between them, their marriage is likely to become more real than ever.
I was very unsure about this book at first because lying is such a huge issue for me. But poor Finola’s situation was truly awful and when one removes 21st century glasses and sees how few options she truly had, her desperation becomes palpable and somewhat understandable. She grew on me the more time she spent with Percy and the more she stood by him and defended him. I loved Percy as a hero. Having seen my own grandfather deteriorate with Alzheimer’s, Percy’s description of his father’s decline and his own fears hit home for me. Mental health is so important and this was such an ambitious topic to tackle and I think it was handled well. The love story between Percy and Finola wound up being beautiful despite its inauspicious beginning and I loved it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Well researched and set in South America and London, this was a different and emotional story. Percy, Captain Lord Granston, fears he has inherited the madness that took his father’s life. Indeed, he cannot recall marrying Finola in South America and then abandoning her, but that is apparently what he did.
From this unusual beginning, we share the emotional journey as these two characters sort out nefarious schemes to rob Finola of her husband’s estate and as Percy learns a great deal more about his past, and works to secure a real future with Finola.
Highly recommended.
“Third Husband’s the Charm” (nook) is an enchanting, lyrical and well-written story.
I liked the interactions between Finola and Percy and, despite a few secrets, they fall deeply in love. Another HEA in my Nook book shelf.
” Third Husband’s the Charm- Harrow’s Finest Five Series” by Nancy Yeager is a tale of one Percy, the Captain Lord Granston….and his “wife” ….The twice-widowed Finola Tenney Simmons who conveniently needs a “ husband” to retrieve her Argentinian silver mine fortune from her thieving step-son. Percy requires his “wife” to help him settle his affairs …since nightly nightmares are robbing him of his sanity….as his father was. The two can assist each other as long as they don’t fall in love…..is it possible that they may find a HEA?!? Read and See! Much enjoyed and Highly Recommended. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Copy of this book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Of all of the Harrow’s Finest Five, this is my favorite. Percy is so tortured. And poor Finola just needs a man she can depend on. I loved seeing the evolution of these characters and watching them come together and learn to trust each other. Another un-put-downable book!
Captain Lord Percival Carlyle, the Earl of Granston thinks he is losing his mind like his father before him when a wife that he does not remember shows up asking for his help. Fiona needs help after her first husband dies and his partners in a mine in Argentina take over and leaves her with nothing. This is a wonderful book with a unique plot and characters that were interesting and very likable.
