Althea struggles to adapt to an unexpected twist in her life—not being kidnapped in six whole months. The strange police from the faraway city claim the abilities she thought of as magic are really ‘psionics,’ and say she is far stronger than anyone they have ever seen. Despite their curiosity, they let her remain in the Badlands to protect her from an evil they call corporations.Of course, Althea … corporations.
Of course, Althea knows all too well how powerful her healing gift is. For most of her life, she’d been a prize taken in raids. Tribes have killed to own her, and she let them.
But the Prophet is done being passive.
Having a family changes everything. No longer afraid to use her powers to protect herself, Althea refuses to be taken again… even when corporate mercenaries find her.

I’m going to start by saying you really need to read his Awakening series before this otherwise you wont quite grasp it all. I’ve been wanting to read more about Althea. I was so excited and I was not disappointed. This girl…she is awesome. She’s so young but I feel she’s experienced so much that she’s an old soul at least to me. She’s a healer and very different and she deals with things differently. Not everyone understands her but she’s been through so much. Getting constantly kidnapped for her abilities which are astounding. Althea just wants to be normal…well as normal as she can be. She wants to be loved and cared for and not for what she can do or to be worshipped. She thinks she finally found a home but alas gets taken again.
I really enjoy this authors writing because he can really tell a story. Its gripping and I love Sci-fi. World building is magnificent and I’m never disappointed. This is quite the adventure and its not over. I cant wait to read more. Definitely recommend! Its a newish book so I’m not telling anything detailed. Sorry…but not really. 🙂
A fun post apocalyptic adventure in an interesting new world. I enjoyed this world and the intriguing elements with it. I did struggle a little with the MC but that’s just me personally.
Only in the last couple of years have I learned that I enjoy sci-fi books, specifically those that are set in post apocalyptic dystopian times. I really liked Althea as the main character and can see why she got her own spin off. Being that although she been through so much she selfless, caring, and innocent. I couldn’t help but laugh when she didn’t understand things or took them too literal haha. I cant wait to see how Althea character grows in subsequent books.
I suggest reading Prophet of the Badlands, (The Awakened Series) before reading this book. This is a continuation after the last of that series. Althea lives in a world that has been wracked with wars, cities are in rubble, where human bones are like trash laying everywhere , and then there are those with special abilities. Althea is one of those and almost anyone who sees her and knows what she could to do, kidnap her, until she is kidnapped again by another tribe, or person. When she finally finds a real home and family, she is taken again in the middle of the night. This is a future that I couldn’t imagine but the amazing mind of Matthew Cox can. You will be surprised, shocked, terrified , excited by all things happening, a future you could never dream of until reading this.
