Spending eighteen summers at my Nana’s farm has been the highlight of my life. Learning how to work everything has taken many summers of trial and error but it’s a passion. Doesn’t hurt that the Peak farm adjoins hers and their oldest son is just a few years older than me. He’s always helped me learn to do everything including climbing trees and how to swim. Nana is convinced we are star-crossed … star-crossed lovers, but he treats me as one of the boys. No one in either family Wilkin or the Peak has ever fallen for each other in hundreds of years that the farms have been in the families. Now I’m not saying I’d kick Jerrie Peak out of my bed.
Will my path lead me to be a city lady like my mom or will it lead me back to my family roots? Are we star crossed-lovers who haven’t slowed down enough to truly see each other? The summer of my eighteenth birthday is going to bring many changes to my life.

This is a summer love romance between the city girl and the country guy whose five years older than her. Kimberly is the eighteen year old city girl who has spent ever summer hangin’ out at her Nana’s farm. This year it’s different because she’s eighteen and old enough for Jerrie to take notice of her. Jerrie and Kim are friends but he has no idea she’s had a crush on him for years. Jerrie was the guy who would take off to spend time with other girls leaving Kim broken-hearted.
This summer is bound to be different than all the rest. Kim has an agenda and it begins with flirting, taunting, and teasing Jerry. Kim is determined to make this summer one Jerrie will never forget. Someone needs to move their friendship into more.
This short story packs a punch offering multiple layers of age-gap, arranged marriage, push n’ pull, city-girl versus country-guy, friends to lovers, and star-crossed lovers themes.
Kim’s character acts blasé towards Jerry’s motives. Her juvenile antics were annoying to listen to. I was disappointed by her behavior given Jerrie taught her how to manage the farm, yet her actions say otherwise.
This is short summer country romance. It’s a cheesy story that gives off that high school vibe. Kim’s character was far too immature, naive, and clueless. I couldn’t relate to her or understand her wishy washy ways. Her character was annoying and too young for my liking. I prefer strong independent women who have a better understanding of what they want and take charge of their lives.
Narrator:
Danielle Jacobs is a professional voice actor and is the solo performer of this short country romance. Danielle has a sweet southern voice suitable for Kim’s character.
I listened at 1.7 speed. Total listening time 2 hours 37 minutes. Included are 24 chapters and an epilogue. There’s a slight sound disturbance in the audiobook. This is an unabridged copy narrated in English.
I would’ve loved a nice southern country narrator to perform Jerrie’s character. Danielle is a good performer for female voices, but not great for a country guy. It took away from the listening experience.
This wasn’t my favorite type of read. That’s no fault of Danielle’s performance. This one of those times when a wish the performance exceeded the writing. Unfortunately, both the writing and performance was okay. It’s an easy listen with a happily ever after ending.
An amazing story! The characters will steal your heart as you easily fall in love with them. The story is written so well you feel like you’re right there in the story with them. The story captivates you and keeps you glued to the pages to see how it ends.

Kim had spent many summers at her nana’s farm and she loved it so much and it helped that Jerrie who lives next to the farm has always been there for her and has always taught her how to do many things in that time. Kim’s eighteenth birthday has arrived and she is looking forward to spending time at the farm and with Jerrie. Kim and Jerrie get to spend a lot of time together but will they realise that they are perfect for each other or will they not cross that line as it could put a and to there friendship. I really enjoyed reading this book and I couldn’t put it down as I had to see what would happen and and the characters and storyline was really good. Susan Meachen is a brilliant author and writer and her books are definitely worth reading.

Fantastic story! Characters that will steal your heart. A storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat and glued to your kindle! For me it was a love- hate deal as the characters face their demons. You will feel their emotions and struggles. A definite must read.
Kim (FMC) and her friend Jerrie have grown up together and have always been in each others lives. Dancing around each other and how they feel they never push their relationship into anything more even though they both want too. That is until someone forces their hands and they end up married. Things dont go exactly to plan though. Its so painfully obvious from the first page i read in this book that these two characters are so perfect for each other but they keep getting in their own way of happiness. This book definitely has its ups and downs. A few tears too. Its not a hearts and flowers girly romance bit its a realistic one. On how two people who were friends & are in love with each other struggle to build a relationship together. I had everything crossed that these two characters got their HEA even when it looked to me that they might not. I really liked this book and the main characters. Its a great read
Kim had always spent her summers at her Nana’s farm where she learned so many things, sometimes with the help of her neighbor, Jerrie Peak. He’s just a couple of years older than she is, but he taught her to climb trees, operate machinery, swim, or whatever else she needed to accomplish. Her Nana has always claimed they are star-crossed lovers, even though she thinks Jerrie just treats her like a friend. Now that her 18th birthday has arrived, will he tell her how he feels? Will she tell him she feels the same? And when trouble comes their way, is what they feel strong enough to keep them together?
Wow, this one was an effort! The punctuation – or mostly lack of it – drove me crazy and made it extremely difficult to read this. I know authors claim that it’s just the ARC (the reviewer’s copy) and it will be published in perfect format later, but a sloppy ARC sets the tone for the book and should at least be close to the final version. With paragraph breaks sometimes missing when the speaker changes, and of course no punctuation for guidance, it becomes difficult to identify which character is speaking and what they are trying to say. With my having to piece it all together sentence by sentence, there was no enjoyment of what could have been a good story line. I do urge the author to turn this over to an editor team to be corrected.
A young couple with a lot of dreams for the future and an unexpected reason to push the future quickly forward. Twists, lies, dark secrets (on both sides) and high emotions destroy what they had. The author did a terrific job with the backstories and the characters. This version was a little hard to follow sometimes with the lack of punctuation (pre final editing). Other than that, I loved the story as I always pull for the underdog and would love to smack a few characters up side the head. Plan to see what else the author has out and read some of them.

This story takes place in the country. It is a story of heartbreak and love. I found that once I started reading I couldn’t put it down until I finished the last word on the page. One life changing event sets in motion the future of the main characters.
