When John Eastwick Jr.’s father dies, he finds out about one family secret that will change his life forever. But a murder the night of the memorial service raises the question—what else was his beloved father hiding? ***21-year-old John Eastwick Jr. has lived a charmed and cozy life. The sole heir of the Eastwick family fortune, John is on the cusp of graduating from the renowned Montvale … on the cusp of graduating from the renowned Montvale University out east before returning home to run his family business. But in late fall of his final year, John’s father dies of heart failure. Days later, his father is named as one of the disgraced moguls who bribed John’s way into his prestigious college.
Kicked out of school, John returns home to his distraught mother at their lakeside mansion to bury his father. There, John’s world continues to crumble beneath his feet: the will that the family lawyer reads bears no resemblance to the last version that the late John Eastwick Sr. created. In fact, John Eastwick Sr. has divided his estate not only between his son and wife, but the family chef, their loyal lawyer, his young secretary, and his estranged brother.
John wonders, is his father trying to atone for past mistakes–and what other secrets might he be keeping?
But that night, after the reading of the will, one among the group is murdered. And John Eastwick Jr. must not only piece together who the threat is, but also face what else his beloved father might have been hiding.

John Eastwick, Sr. Has died. His son John
Eastwick, Jr comes home from college to
the Eastwick Mansion.
Then shock #1….a scandal breaks out in
all the news resources, John Sr bribed his
son’s way into college with generous donations.
This comes to light right before John Jr’s
last semester before graduation. He will never
graduate from this prestigious college.
Shock #2….the reading of the most current
will. Instead of John Jr and his mother
inheriting his father’s, it is divided among
his mother, John Jr, his father’s estranged
brother, the brother’s wife and son plus the
estate chef, the estate lawyer and his father’s
secretary.
Shock #3….the murder of one of the inheritors
while everyone stayed the night at the estate
after the will reading.
Shock #4….the robbery of a million dollar
painting during the night.
An extremely well written, attention holding,
plot within a plot.
The characters were multifaceted, each having
their own intriguing secrets and personalities.
An enjoyable read.

Twisted is the operative word!! How sudden death can bring out the greed and evil in almost every person left behind. A page turner.
I listened to this on Chirp. Very good storyline. Great characters. It was hard to pin down who did what here. once again the narrator sort of threw me off. Her voice sounded very young. I’d recommend reading the book.
A Death at Eastwick by L. C. Warman is a story that is full of mystery and also has a touch of current events. John Eastwick, Sr. has died as a result of a heart attack. John, Jr. is in his senior year at a prestigious university when a scandal breaks naming John Sr. as having bribed John Jr’s way into the college. After the funeral the will is read and it is shocking to the family. Each of the people named in the will were invited to stay at the Eastwick mansion. During the night, one of them has been found dead and murder is suspected. Bad blood, shaky family relationships and suspected infidelity are all in play in this suspenseful mystery.
This is a well written story with a well developed plot and characters. I highly recommend this book. I read this book on my Nook as a serial read where a few chapters are delivered each day until the conclusion of the book. It is a great way to meet new authors.
A Death at Eastwick (The Eastwick Mansion Mysteries #1) was a great read by L.C. Warman. John Eastwick, Sr died and the aftermath reveals a family secret that will change their lives forever. Due to this John Eastwick, Jr is kicked out of school and must return home to his mother. There he finds out that his fathers will looks nothing like the previous version, with his estate being split by more people. Unfortunately the night after the reading of the will, someone in the mansion dies. I really enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read more by L.C. Warman.
The story follows a plot used by other writers before but is well written, has a high enough level of mystery and hints to many characters who could have committed murder. It also surprises the reader with an unexpected ending. It´s an easy and enjoyable reading!
I received a free copy of this book from the author/Hidden Gems Books in exchange for an honest review.
There are only eight people in the house. All have a motive for murder. All have secrets. Those secrets are, of course, what leads to the resolution of the murder. Each chapter gives you more clues which lead to into different directions. This was a relaxing read during this COVID-19 lockdown.
When I read a “Whodunit?” I want the twists to be twisty and the bad guy to be a surprise. I didn’t really get that in this book. The characters are well-written, and the story in and of itself was good, but there weren’t any surprises, which ruins the experience for me. I won’t be reading more of this series.
predictable
I loved it. Kept me guessing till the end. Looking forward to more mysteries by this author.
Interesting. Felt like it was a slow build at first but once I got into it, I just had to know what was really going on. A whodunit. #2020 Cozy Mystery Challenge.
