An interesting read about two people who were lost and found each other, despite his spoiled sister and a man who wanted to marry for money.
(Heavy Sign – Swooning) What a beautiful sweet romance. The story was moving and emotional. The characters were authentic and genuine. Their feelings were legitimate and realistic. It was especially interesting the dichotomy between the lead female character, Charlotte Brown and Amanda Easterly. Charlotte grew up with loving parents who instilled in her a just and loving moral compass. Her father was the prior vicar of the village. Amanda was the sister of Lord Graham Easterly, Earl of Atcham. She was spoiled, a princess and evilly mischievous. She had a knack to use people’s situation and twist it to her amusement no matter who it hurt. As long as she was entertained by it she felt no guilt. Graham on the other hand was a kind and thoughtful man who had a tender conscious. Although his temper was riled when he heard or saw an injustice. He is a firm man, decisive and responsible. He took care of all who worked for him and involved himself in the physical part of running the estate as much as possible. Needless to say, Amanda gave Graham a run for his money. The scoundrel of the story is Lord Stanhope. He is a dandy and a fortune hunter. He had gambling debts that need paid and his brother the Earl of Brunswick had cut him off only to live off a small stipend. Stanhope gambled on courting both Amanda and Charlotte hoping at least each of them had a dowry. He did not care which he married. It was just important that he marry to appease his brother and that he got his hands on that dowry money. Graham had a feeling Stanhope was not all the he appeared to be and did not want either his sister or Charlotte involved with him. But Graham being chivalrous decided that his sister would never marry him. But he left Charlotte to make her own decision. Amanda was determined to run away with Stanhope but somehow Charlotte’s new situation made her question her own actions. Amanda has never admitted ever being in the wrong it was always someone else’s fault. She suppressed her true emotions. Things became rocky between Amanda and Charlotte as she was humiliated and treated like dirt by Amanda. The romance between Graham and Charlotte started many years ago. Charlotte grew up with Amanda and was schooled as a lady just like Amanda. Then the years parted them. But when Charlotte was at Berwick Manor taking lessons, she grew infatuated with Graham. Even though he was much older than her it did not matter a jot. Years later their live intertwined again and Charlotte’s feeling became more. Little did she know that Graham was feeling the same way. Only one loose end. Stanhope threatened Charlotte that she would regret what she did but the storyline dropped after that. A wonderful story. Thoroughly entertaining, sweet and emotional. I do recommend it.
