Kyra Lennon has written a powerful and emotional story that tackles difficult and sensitive subjects, which are close to my heart due to personal circumstances. I found myself able to relate with both Ash and Evie who have to face the damage caused by others before they can even consider moving on and allowing their minds to accept what their hearts have known for quite a while. Their journey, separately and together, isn’t easy, and each time you think things are finally starting to look up for them, Kyra Lennon throws in another surprise. They also both make decisions or do things that may not make sense to the reader, but do make sense to the characters, so please don’t judge them too harshly lol
‘When his body began to shudder again, I squeezed my eyes closed and I couldn’t recall a time when I’d ever felt so helpless. I wanted to lie beside him and hold him, to try to put his broken pieces back together, but I knew he wouldn’t let me.’ – Evie
This story definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat and pulls at the heartstrings. It also has you hating one character in particular and changing your mind about another. I experienced so many emotions as Ash and Evie’s story progressed, and when I got to the end, I had to take time to deal with those emotions before I could even write this review. Having read and loved this author’s Chaos and Consent books, I already knew she was an incredibly talented author, but Unintended reaffirms that and is a must read for 2019 – just have the tissues ready!

This book has got to be one of my top reads for this year, that is how good it was. Kyra Lennon, who is a new author to me, has written a remarkably complex, intense and heartbreaking story that I read in one sitting. I literally could not put this book down.
This is Ash and Evie’s story, they are both completely broken but for different reasons. A chance meeting brings them together and what emerges is a wonderfully written story of love, loss, domestic abuse, mental health issues, friendship, family and loyalty.
I connected well with both Ash and Evie but for me, this story was dominated by Ash; what was happening to him and how he was dealing with it. At times even though I didn’t quite grasp why he did what he did, my heart broke for this young man and what he was going through. Somehow reading about Ash’s abuse seemed so much more potent to me because he was a man, but it didn’t lessen my pain reading his story if anything it heightened it even more. Evie struggled with her loss. When these two people pull together amazing things can happen but not without lots of drama, twists and turns along the way; I shed a tear or two many a time.
Yes, this book is heartrending, it has triggers some people may not be able to handle but this author has highlighted reality and what people go through dealing with grief, abuse and mental health problems and I commend her for that. A truly remarkable book that I cannot recommend highly enough!
Kyra Lennon has seriously outdone herself with this emotional rollarcoaster of a read!! She had me on the edge of my seat, completely captivated and invested and pulling the ‘one more chapter…..’ until I had finished and it was 2.30am! who needs sleep anyway??
Kyra covered some tough subjects, that some may find hard to deal with, beautifully.
Ash and Evie are so beautifully damaged. They met by chance, maybe fates way of helping them heal, Their relationship is a slow burn, a spark ready to ignite for a new beginning.
Well done Kyra on this outstanding story.
Unintended is another gripping read from the opening pages. Ash and Evie are the two main characters, both facing their own demons. Demons people shouldn’t have to face, but in this day and age nothing surprises me. However, reading about Ash, his abuse from his partner, his mental health while trying to recover from said abuse, well it pulls on your heartstrings. It’s so much harder to read when it’s a man facing the domestic abuse, because you don’t expect it. Although, I think Unintended will make us stop and realise that Male domestic violence happens more than we realise.
This is a slow burner. I went through a few different emotions while reading this book. I loved and hated Evie within a few pages, but it all falls into place for Evie and Ash.
Anything is possible if you just embrace the storm.
An intense and emotional story I was unable to put down. Ash and Evie have been through so much and fate brought them together for a reason. Can their connection help each other mend their broken souls and finally find their ultimate happiness? This is not a story for the faint of heart as it does have some triggers, but it is one I highly recommend. It put me through a large array of emotions. This is one author I will definitely be reading again.
Unintended packed a punch I wasn’t prepared for. Poignant, complex, intense and emotionally charged Ash and Evie’s story took me on an unforgettable and emotional journey.
My poor Ash!! From the very start this incredible young man pulled at my heartstrings and had me emotionally invested. He was such a genuinely relatable character that I couldn’t help but love him. My heart ached for him and I wanted to grab him close. I shed some serious tears along the way and wanted to go on a rampage in his honor. I was so amazed to watch the growth he underwent and so proud of him when he realized his happiness was worth fighting for.
Evie was someone I could truly empathize with. On the surface to everyone she had it all together and was doing a great job at putting her life together again. Truthfully her anxiety held her back like it does for many of us all too often. Intent on breaking out of her shell one fateful rainy night her path unexpectedly crossed with Ash’s. Their meeting was unconventional but the bond they quickly formed was indescribable. I loved watching them both learn to let their guards down and trust again.
Unintended isn’t a sweet and easy read. It’s emotionally charged, honest, and doesn’t shy away from a difficult situation. I definitely shed some tears while reading this book but I was also full of so much hope for these two amazing characters. I truly love when a book draws me in and keeps my feelings in a tight vise like this poignant pageturner did.
Evie is successful in business but her past haunts her. She’s trying to move on with her life. Ash is in an abusive relationship with his girlfriend Natalie. He should walk away but he’s in love and can’t seem to do it. These two are broken and meeting is a help for both of them. This is a slow burn romance but so good to read.
Unintended, is my first book by this author. I thought it was well written, loved the way the author wrote about a taboo topic that’s not so common, but it is equally important!
“I was just thinking… it’s weird how we met. That night we were both in need of someone, and we both found someone.”
I liked the first half of the book, how the friendship grew. But when something something (I won’t give any spoilers) happens after New Year, I just had to put down the book for several days, before I could finish it. It’s just not my cup of tea, and that ruined the book for me, to be honest. However, other than that…I liked the book.

An emotionally charged story that will break your heart into pieces but along the way it will mend. I don’t think words will be enough to describe a story like this and one way or another, if you have dealt with it yourself or know someone, there’ll be something you can relate to! For myself, in some ways, I could see some of myself in Ash and also in the way he was thinking about himself ‘cuz I’ve been there and sometimes I still am. It’s not easy to see yourself in a good way when you’re being mentally abused but you never know when that time will come where you finally will be able to break through the circle. In the end, there will always be someone that will be there for you, that one person you need by your side to make it through another day…
Evie hasn’t had it easy the last few years and after her divorce, she hasn’t been able to go out like before. When she finally does, anxiety seems to get the best of her but when she meets Ash, there’s just something about him that she can relate to. Their meeting seems to be evolving in a close friendship but Ash has troubles of his own. One that he doesn’t ever let anyone know but somehow Evie gets closer and he finally is able to tell her what he’s going through. Even though both have struggles of their own to deal with, it seems that they can find a way to just be there for each other. But when tragedy happens, it’ll be hard to deal with. Will Ash finally be able to let go of his past and able to move on from what he’s gone through? And will Evie find a way to deal with her heartbroken past? Maybe, just maybe, they’ll find their way to each other and have their own happy ending …
I have read many of kyras books and so was expecting something fab with this one. As always I wasn’t let down. This a beautiful albeit sad at times story really well written. It is the story of Ash and evie who both have their own personal issues to deal with. They meet briefly and their connection is instant however at that point with all that is going on with their personal times a tentative friendship is formed. What follows is an emotional series of events in which they each provide vital support to the other. The journey we go on with Ash is heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting and Evie has a lot to contend with too. It is a story of the power of someone who cares enough to be there someone who offers support when it’s most needed and two people’s journey to a better place. I enjoyed every word and couldn’t wait to get to the end while at the same time not wanting it to end.
Evie is 29 years old and is trying to put her life back together after everything she’s been through. She has her own home and her own business and people think she has it all together but looks can be deceiving. She is anxiety ridden and constantly fighting herself to do more and break out of her shell.
Ash is to the point of numbness. No feelings left, the abuse has reduced him down to a shell of a human. Scared to look the wrong way without permission, afraid of what will happen if he stays but to scared to leave. Besides he has nobody and who would believe his story anyway?
When Ash and Evie meet it’s very unconventional and emotional. The secrets looming between them are overwhelming for them both, but they both feel a connection with each other. They can see a kindred spirit within themselves.
They have a connection that can’t go unnoticed. These two have the most peculiar story and it is perfectly told. I loved watching them grow not only closer but grow themselves, like watching beautiful flowers bloom after a harsh winter. It was wonderful. The trials and tribulations they had weren’t the same as every other book, they were unique and completely them. I loved the fact that this book talks about very touchy subjects. There are trigger warnings for a very good reason. My heart hurt more times than I could count while reading this book. It was so sad but so refreshing all at the same time.
