Her mother married the second love of her life.
And her older brother – the king – is about to have a child.
She’s not changing, but everything around her is.
So when she’s offered a chance to run away with the only man she’s ever found herself falling for, she takes it.
Even if it means abdicating her responsibilities, and neglecting to mention that she’s a princess.
But Levi’s keeping something from her, too. She knows he is, but has no idea what it could be.
A princess on the run, far more secrets than should be legal, and a trip down the Mother Road give her a taste of freedom, but when it comes to her relationship with Levi… well, it’s (royally) complicated.

I have not read a Moncado book that hasn’t been top notch, uplifting, emotionally charged, and inspiring.
“I’m in this for the long haul, no matter what the media and public try to throw at us. It’s you and me, love. For always.”
Yay! Genevieve finally gets her own book. It’s Royally Complicated is the ninth and final book in Carol Moncado’s Crowns and Courtship series. This book features Genevieve, Evangeline’s older twin and Benjamin’s heir. When things in Gen’s life start changing, she knows that she needs a break. So when she is offered the chance to travel the US with a man she finds herself falling for, she jumps at the chance. It’s all fun and games until an unexpected visitor changes everything.
I really liked Gen. She was fun and vibrant, I felt like she really jumped off the pages. However, I also felt bad for her, she had hidden her feelings behind her friendliness. Gen had a lot going on around and she was just trying to find her footing a world that was changing around her. But even though the world around her was changing, she was still kind. It was so interesting to see things from God’s perspective. I loved reading about her with Levi and watching her learn about everyday things.
Levi was a cool character, I liked how he interacted with Gen. He cared for Gen a lot and it was so cute how they interacted together. Levi was so fun, he really enjoyed living life and traveling. But his life was more complicated than he thought it was, family life could be messier than he thought it would be. Levi had to learn how to live with the knowledge that Gen was a princess. It would be hard to be in the spotlight, but Levi had to learn that Gen was worth it.
I loved Levi and Gen as a couple. They completed each other, it was so fun to see them fall in love. I adored their secret meet ups and I was so happy when they finally got to spend time together. However, I was really worried when things started to get complicated. I knew that the secrets they were both keeping would come back to haunt them.
They both had to grow before they were able to make their relationship really work and they had to learn to trust each other. Gen had to see that she was loved and wanted for who she was. Levi had to learn to trust Gen with his secrets and what it meant to protect her. But they had a lot of things to work through especially when the truth comes out.
I loved this book! It was a wonderful ending to a great series. I adored the story of Levi and Gen, they were such a sweet couple. I can’t wait for Ms. Moncado’s next books. I would definitely recommend it!
I love Carol Moncados books. It’s (Royally) Complicated is the last book, for now in the series. It’s Princess Genevieve and Levi’s story. A chance meeting in New York and wedding plus one invite a couple of years ago is the start of Gen as Levi knows her adventure together. They become friend and see each other when she’s in New York. He has no idea of her true identity.
Their story is one of twists and turns and also love. I love how the author weaves so much into her stories. I’m amazed at how she keeps everything and everyone straight. I hated when I was too tired to read in the evening to put the book down, it was always as something just happened, ahhh!. I highly recommend any of Carols books. Looking forward to what she has waiting for us in Trumanville. Happy reading and many blessings.
You would think that the second in line to the throne would feel rather important. Right? Yet Princess Genevieve struggled with the sense that she wasn’t valued or needed by anyone. When she had the opportunity to escape from the pressures of her life with the handsome man she had been corresponding with for the past two years, she took it!
I found the secrets Gen and Levi kept from each other very interesting, though it made sense why. She wanted him to love her for herself, not her position or her family. He didn’t want anyone to love him for money.
Then, she had a new secret to keep and the road trip originally planned to be for just a few days got very complicated, and not for the reason you might be thinking!
Gen’s journey to find significance took a surprising turn. I loved the way she came to realize her true value as the daughter of the King of kings and loved the choice in who delivered the message. I don’t think there could have been anyone better, or that this scene could have been more touching.
There were a several surprises along the way and plenty of drama.
It’s (Royally) Complicated is a sweet romance with a touch of inspiration. If you enjoy stories of royalty and adventure, you’ll want to be sure to pick up a copy. This story is much better if you are familiar with the events in The (Elusive) Princess. And while a working knowledge of the other books in the Royals of Eyjania series would be helpful, it is not critical. However, if you haven’t read them, you’ll want to by the time you finish this one.
She’s the outgoing princess. He drives an RV around the States for a living. Is there any way they can have a successful relationship while they’re both keeping secrets?

I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
Being a twin isn’t easy sometimes. Being the spare heir isn’t easy too. There comes a day when you just want to escape all responsibilities and be someone normal. Because you feel like you don’t really matter. This is what Genevieve did. She escaped with someone the family didn’t really know, and she only knew through emails and short visits. Was this the wisest thing she should do? Maybe not, but she did and the adventures begin.
We learn more about Princess Genevieve. Gen, as Levi knows her, is not showing her royal self. She’s as normal as anyone and doesn’t really share her position or information about her family to Levi as they start out on this adventure. However, complications happen and their time together takes longer than either thought.
This story takes us on an interesting road trip and the relationship between Levi and Gen becomes more complicated.
In this story, both Gen and Levi have secrets in their lives which could be overwhelming. They see things changing and don’t really know how to handle them. It takes finally sharing these secrets and opening up to each other before they both can truly be free to move on and find what the future holds for them.
Self-esteem and value are some of the things Gen and Levi deal with. There were a couple of moments where my heart grieved for each of them.
There’s a quote which I loved said to Gen by her step-father.
“Just because everyone around you is changing, and your role is changing, doesn’t mean you matter less. You are important. You matter. You are missed beyond belief when you’re gone . . . You, Gen, are a child of the King of kings. A joint-heir with Christ. That is where your value comes from.”
Carol Moncado is an expert in writing stories that will take you deep into the lives of “royalty” and the world of “royals.” Guess what, she’s done it again! This book is packed full of “royal” moments. I couldn’t put this book down. There were times I had tears in my eyes, times I laughed out loud, and times I wanted to scream at the characters. All of this makes fantastic storytelling and Carol Moncado is a master storyteller!
If you LOVE reading stories regarding royalty and all that life can bring, then you really need to pick this book up and read it! You won’t be disappointed.
I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Once again a fantastic book. I love how she ties in to other books in the series.
So so good! I love all of the Crowns and Courtships books and this one is no different! Great characters and a great storyline! Highly recommend!! I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my review. All thoughts and feelings are my own.
Loved the book, the story took some unexpected twists – it was a fun read!
Another (and sadly, the last) book in the author’s Royals series. It has been a romantic and exciting journey of Princes, Princesses, Kings and Queens, set in both exotic locations and the US. Gen and Levi’s story was a satisfying ending to our time with these very real characters. Filled with family, mystery, and love, these are stories that you will remember long after “The End.” The end of this seriesdoes mean a new one is on the way, and I can’t wait to read it.
Gen wound up as a plus one to a wedding with someone she didn’t know. They developed a relationship and visited when she was able. Levi travels around in a motorhome, but is keeping a secret from her. She has neglected to tell him who she is. She’s just Gen. Trouble finds them both though and a good portion of this story is learning more about Levi and Gen, as well as how they are going to get out of the problem situation that has developed. Wonderful, engaging story, with some of our favorite characters from previous books, as well as meeting Levi’s family. This story is set primarily in the USA, with travel to Eyjania as well.
A complimentary advanced copy was provided by the author, but I also purchased my own copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Have you ever felt like running away? Away from either people or problems or even anything? Gen does and she she did. Being a working royal can be exhausting. Being in the spotlight continually makes Gen cherish the time she sneaks away with Levi. Feeling like a complete extra in the family after a new baby and her twins marriage Gen “runs away” with Levi. Levi is a gentleman she met by chance and finds herself falling for. Unfortunate (possibly) circumstances pop up and the time Gen has is prolonged. Will these circumstances draw them closer or apart?
I enjoy Mrs. Moncado books! I long for the next book in the series as soon as I finish the one I’m reading at the time. You will never regret reading one of her books!
Aww, this was another great addition to the Crowns & Courtships series. I’ve loved every one of the books leading up to this one and Gen and Levi’s story was just as easy to love. Finding out the answers to the questions we first asked in Evie’s story was satisfying! 5 stars!
In Mrs. Moncado’s latest release, It’s Royally Complicated, readers will be surprised at Gen’s story. After reading The Elusive Princess, I was not sure how she would tell Gen’s story, but I was surprised throughout. This book kept me engaged as I read and I wanted to keep reading to see how it would end. This series is a fantastic read and I have really enjoyed getting to know all of the key characters in this family. I have been eagerly awaiting Gen’s story. The beginning of the book reveals things that happened in the past to provide the background that readers might have missed in the other books. The story had several surprises throughout, many secrets, and some suspense. The other main character besides Gen is Levi, a traveling writer who drives a RV around the country. I discovered Mrs. Moncado’s books several years ago and have read them all. I love her stories and highly recommend you read her books. You can start with any of them honestly. This series is great and you could read this book first if needed, but you will discover more of the characters if you read starting with book one. I recommend this book if you enjoy romance and royalty books! You won’t be disappointed!
I was happy to discover Carol Moncado’s writing a few years ago. I have been a royal watcher for over 45 years and she writes the best royalty stories! I don’t know how she keeps all this straight in her head. For instance, this is book 9 in this series and she keeps all the royals and their families straight up! Love her stories!
*My thanks to the author for a preview copy of the book. The opinions stated here are entirely my own.
If you haven’t read any Carol Moncado before, you should probably start at the beginning of the Crowns & Courtships series (with Love for the Ages and on from there) so that you know who all the characters are and what has gone before.
I enjoyed getting to know the second of the twin Eyjanian princesses, Genevieve, in this book. Once again Moncado does a great job with her characters, very complicated plot twists, courtship bumps and roadblocks, and making royal people believable. This one has a lot more action in the US than some of the others. Lots of hints were dropped in The (Elusive) Princess, and we get the full story in this book.
I stayed up way too late to finish reading this one!
Excellent! Kept me engaged all throughout. I didn’t want to put it down even though the kids were clamoring. It was seamlessly written to answer all the questions and tie up the story in a beautiful big bow. The twists and turns kept coming and surprised me again and again.
This is a favorite and I’m sure I’ll read it again and again.
