Because the Chinese culture is so very different than my own, I found this a very difficult book to read! I enjoyed learning about everything, but without the visuals, and even the translations throughout the story, I’m sure I missed out on a lot of important things. As far as the love story, it was both frustrating and beautiful! I wish there would have been more emphasis on her understanding of Christ.
A story line that has a lot of time and research put in to it. The characters are well developed, the story line is fantastically written and you may learn some new things about Chinese culture. The story is intriguing and holds your attention. Wonderfully written!

Book twenty of The Proxy Brides series is well written and gives us a look at proxy marriages. This is Chen Wen Hui and Li Yuping’s story. I enjoyed reading this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
“For the past six years since his eighteenth birthday, Wen Hui beseeched the memory of the girl of his past as if she were a gooddess to bring his petitions.” Wen Hui was steadfast in his devotion to Li Yuping, a girl he had known when he was younger and hoped to one day make his fortune and go marry her. But he partner announce he was going to have a 3rd wife and it would be that same beautiful girl he loved. The worst part was he was sending him to China to bring his bride back and marry her in his stead as a Proxy Bride!!!
Meanwhle Yuping was finding out she would be the third bride od this man in America. What to do?
But when Wen Hui comes, could he allow himself to marry her by proxy for his partner?
A story that explores some of histories trials and customs during this period in time.
This was such an enjoyable story and I could not wait to read forward to see what would happen!
This story had a lyrical quality to it with Yuping’s love of gardens and ponds and trying to capture the dawn. It was awful how Chinese women were treated as the property of their fathers and then husbands then sons and how their feet were broken and bound to make them more desirable. Wen Hui has been in love with Yuping for years but as someone of a much lower social station he was never worthy of her. It must have been torture to be told he was to be her proxy husband for his business partner, who used women and didn’t even care about her, only that she was beautiful and would be another possession of his. His pastor and Yuping made him see how important love is and that it transcends social and economic barriers.
I really enjoyed this book. It held my attention throughout.
I loved the way this story unfolded as we looked at a small part of another culture, very informative and interesting
A lovely story of love and hope held for many years. A story of a young man who holds to his new found faith even if it goes against his cultures ways. An amazing story of being willing to do the honorable thing even at the cost of his own desires.
This is a glimpse into the Chinese culture. How prearranged marriages were common with the first wife being the legal wife while any others were part of his concubine. Daughters had no say on who they were to marry as her father and the first wife did the choosing. Little girls had their feet bound to make them lovely for marriage with their small lotus flower feet.
In this story Wen Hui worked long and hard to try and save enough money to be able to feel worthy to ask for the love of his life, his ‘pearl’. Would the desire of his partner to have her instead to add to his wives crush his dreams? When he goes to get her as a proxy for another, things do not go quite as he planned. Read this delightful story to find out what happens.

I’m amazed at the care and research that must have been a cornerstone of writing this book. Wen Hui and Yuping are two characters that you cannot help identifying with.
They have a been in love since childhood, but Yuping’s family will never allow them to be together. Wen Hui moves to America to make his fortune, so that he will be an acceptable suitor. Then, he is asked to go to China to be a proxy groom.
Along the way great blessings and tragedy take them by surprise. However, God was there to help them find their version of a happy ending.
Totally different from the other stories in the series but excellent with a lot of research involved. The characters are well developed and story line is interesting. I was compelled to keep reading to find out what happened. I recommend this book.
Wen Hui and Li Yuping are childhood friends but now she’s in China and he’s in America. When is business partner asks him to stand proxy for him Wen Hui is obligated to do it, but discovering it will be with his childhood friend breaks his heart. But traditions are very strong and he isn’t worth to be her husband. Can he really do the right thing?
I loved this story that’s totally different from the others in this series. The traditions, the longing for freedom, and some parts broke my heart. Luckily time has changed.
