Elizabeth is a sweet story that touched my heart. It grabbed my attention from the beginning, and I hurt for Elizabeth as she experienced periods of grief and anger at God. I also hoped right alongside her as she tried to find a reason to keep going. She was quite the fighter! Her struggle was more with her emotions. She had to work against anger, resentment and pain, which is so hard to do sometimes. And even though she had those feelings, this was not a cynical or bitter story. It was honest and true and very sweet. Auggie, the hero, is adorable and such a gentleman.
I loved Blessings Valley. It’s a sweet small town with a lot of promise!
The Widows of Blessings Valley – Elizabeth is a sweet story filled with a kaleidoscope of emotions. We watch as two wounded people come together with new hope into new life and love.
Widowed from a mining accident, Elizabeth struggles with grief and guilt when Auggie, a man scarred both physically and emotionally hires her as a seamstress for his hotel. The two become friends, albeit a bit reluctantly and love soon blossoms.
Widowed myself ten years ago, I found the emotions Elizabeth struggled with to be an honest reflection of what a woman goes through after losing the love of her life. ~ Pamela S Thibodeaux, author of “Inspirational with an Edge!” ™ romance and women’s fiction.
Elizabeth Hamilton has lost her life partner. Her husband Steven was one of seven miners that were lost in a mining accident. She is grief-stricken and feels so alone. She feels she will live her life alone, and has closed off her heart. She sees as few people as possible, avoiding friends and God. She wants nothing to do with a God that has taken her husband and destroyed her life.
Augustine (Auggie) Raines is hiding in Blessings Valley. Hiding from himself and a past he wants no one to know about. Injured in an accident and he fears horribly scarred for life, he is able to hide the disfigurement and convinces his father to help him relocate to where no one knows him. He has a plan to open a hotel, and make a success of it. His father doubts it will happen, but finances his venture. He is also hiding his roots and wealth. He wants no one to know who he really is.
With a little help from Wilhelmina (Willa) Alexander these two scarred souls meet. Slowly learning to trust each other can they help each other heal? This book is full of real emotion, grief, sorrow and the faith that it takes to overcome a loss this deep. Each one struggles with their loss.
Elizabeth with death and Auggie with his disfigurement. They become balm to each other slowly developing friendship. Can they put aside their final obstacles and reach a Happily Ever After? I found this book to be healing and encouraging. I think it is a must read for anyone struggling with the feelings of loss.
I received an ARC of this book and I am choosing to leave an honest review.
When a book is written from the heart, there’s a depth of emotion that takes readers on the author’s journey. Elizabeth is the story of a woman finding her way back to life and love after the tragic and unexpected loss of her husband. Inspired by the author’s own experience with grief and widowhood, this book–the first in a series–reveals the myriad emotions and social scenarios widows and widowers confront. While told as a western historical romance, the issues facing Elizabeth are timeless. A sweet and tender love story.
