On an isolated stretch of desert highway, Josh Reston is pulled over in the dead of night.By all accounts, he is a quiet, unassuming young man from the woods of Western Pennsylvania with a busted taillight. Until the arresting officer discovers more than a hundred pounds of cocaine and ten thousand dollars in cash stowed in the undercarriage of his vehicle.Brought to jail in the middle of the … to jail in the middle of the night, he offers to share everything he knows about the man he works for, Edgar Santos, and the operation Santos runs in exchange for the guaranteed safety of his family back home.
Less than two months on the job, the offer reeks of everything Assistant District Attorney Dina Chadwick despises about the legal system. No part of her even wants to consider it, a feeling outweighed only by the intrigue of finally getting something concrete on Santos.
Unsure how to proceed, if the claims Reston is making are even true, she decides to step outside the traditional order. Beginning with a simple phone call, she has no idea the person who ultimately answers will be Ham, a woman just recently released from self-imposed exile and aching to get back to doing what she does best.
And with more than ample reasons of her own to get Even…

Now we start to see HAM being a more rounded character from the first book in the series, I wasn’t sure we were going to get a continuation from book 1, but I am pleased we did.
This is a suspense thriller in every aspect of the words and you are left hanging on the tip of your seat, or bed in my case 🙂
brilliant read, full of suspense and very plot-driven which is what it needed.
Yes, Dustin Stevens has allowed Ham, one of his best characters, to return in Even, Book Two of the series.
It seems drug carrier Jeff Reston has been stopped by police. As soon as he is taken to jail, he demands to see the newly appointed acting district attorney, Dina Chadwick. He will tell her everything he knows about his cartel boos, Edgar Santos, but on one condition: find my brother and bring him safely to me – now.
Chadwick calls a number of an unknown off-the-books person, whose name is Mikey, to take the job. And he calls Ham.
And it’s one hell of an adventure as Ham looks to find Jeff’s brother. But in the meantime, Santos has enlisted his enforcer, Pablo, to do the same.
Trust me, it will be difficult to put this book down!
I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am that Ham is back!!! She’s such an awesomely flawed, badass character. This story was gripping and had me on the edge until the very end. Definitely a page turner if you love adrenaline pumping action. I’m glad that others loved her enough to give her a chance. I thoroughly enjoyed the second book and look forward to more!
Once again Dustin Stevens hits a home run with his second book in the Ham series. Loved the way the book draws you into the story and keeps you engrossed until the very end. Loved the interaction between the characters and definitely loved Ham. What a kickass character! This book and the one before it, are full of action, suspense and great characters. I cannot wait, and hope, there is another book in this series.
Hold onto your book this one is going to be such a thrilling ride through the pages…
HAM is back and I am so happy. After book 1 I wasn’t sure we would get more HAM but I really hoped so because she is such an amazing, awe-inspiring, kick-ass character HAM is just made for entertaining readers who enjoy an action-packed thriller.
I really enjoy the slow build in EVEN, the plot is well written and keeps me turning the pages wondering what’s going to happen next or omg what’s going to go wrong next…lol
The suspense is anxiety-inducing but in a good way that you just can’t put it down until your finished, now I can’t wait for more.
Missing her former life, Ham returns as a shadow operator, hired by various alphabet agencies that don’t want the ‘deeds’ traced back to them. In EVEN, Ham’s assignment is to retrieve and protect the teenage brother of a drug running ‘mule’ named Jeff Reston, from a large and violent cartel. Jeff has been arrested and is offering to spill everything he knows about the head of the cartel, if only his brother is protected.
Both Ham and an operator for the cartel are in a race to secure the brother, which leads to them crossing paths and weapons with each other. A major difference between the two is Ham won’t hurt the innocent to achieve her goals, although both utilize weapons and violence to gain their objectives.
Dustin Steven’s is a descriptive writer, creating scenes filled with sensory words of sights, smells, blood and gore. This book is action driven and Ham is a character of worth.
Another thriller in this second HAM novel. Jeff Reston is stopped by the police and arrested after finding enormous amounts of illegal drugs in the car. Jeff wants to make a deal with the police to bring down the leader of the cartel, Edgar Santos. He will only do this if they can find his younger brother and keep him safe. HAM is called to find Jeff’s brother, but Santos also sends someone to find his brother. This is another page turner.
This book was amazing. Building on the character HAM from the first installment, you get a kickass, female heroine who takes no prisoners. In short, if you are looking for a fast-paced, action-packed thriller, you’ve found it. Best if you read the first book first, but if you haven’t that’s okay, this will still work fine for you. No spoilers, but there is some violence, so know that going in; just read the blurb which provides ample explanation and enjoy this page-turner! I received an advance copy and this is my unsolicited, unbiased review.
