Risking It All
Highland County Heroes, Book 5
By: Melissa Stevens
Narrated by: Bump Turgeson
Melissa Stevens! She is not new to me, I had the pleasure of listening to her motorcycle series. When I saw the Highland County Heroes out on audio, I grabbed them, and it’s so good! Risking it All is book 5 of the series, but each one is a standalone and each hero is yummy! Thorne is the teacher across the hall from the new hire, Nancy. This is Nancy’s first job as a teacher, and can use all the support she can get. Widowed with 4 children, she has her hands full, and Thorne is at her side. But she isn’t ready to delve into a new relationship is she? Will Thorne love her and her children? Will this mean she no longer loves her husband? I loved this story for the family feeling it gave me. Not only does Stevens add in some humor with Thorne’s family names, but she lets us get to know Nancy’s kids, fall in love with them and take her journey to letting go, learning to love and trust and find that new normal. Nancy is easy to relate to. Her fears are realistic, she has a lot to take on and her loss is real. Thorne is amazing. He is the man we look for, loving Nancy’s kids and letting us enjoy that slow burn between them. It’s sweet and entertaining and the perfect hero in Highland County.
Bump Turgeson continues his narration of this series. I am enjoying his voices and find he relates to the characters in a way that flows through in his performance. He makes the story entertaining.

Risking It All is a fantastic book or audiobook that anyone would love! It’s such a sweet story of two people that are so very perfect for each other and the journey to their HEA! Nancy’s been widowed for two years raising her four amazing kids and has just started a teaching job. Thorne notices the new English teacher across from his Math class and goes over to introduce himself and welcome her. He notices an uneasiness along with something else…he feels drawn to her and decides to slowly earn her trust and hopefully her friendship. Nancy and Thorne are both very strong interesting and extremely sweet characters! I loved Thorne’s kindness and sensitive consideration to Nancy. The way he eases himself into her life, including the sincere and believable interaction with her kids. I really enjoyed this audiobook and thought narrator Bump Turgeson did a fantastic job bringing this deliciously sweet story to life! I recommend this one to anyone looking for an awesome sweet romance!
This is a sweet story. The two main characters are nice and her kids are the greatest. This is them just getting to become friends with the possibility of more. It is easy to listen to and there isnt any drama. I did listen to this on audio. Bump Turgeson does a good job reading this.
Great characters that will keep your interest extremely well.
The chemistry, sweetness, and twists in plot kept things interesting.
Add in a wee bit of drama and you have a good read.

I found this story to be sweet, heartwarming, sad and wonderful. Nancy is still struggling with the loss of her husband and raising 4 kids on her own. She meets Thorne (a fellow teacher) and they hit it off. She is cautious because of her kids, but he just may be the man that Nancy needs to move on.

This was a sweet story. Nancy is a military widow with 4 young children under the age of 8. In the 2 years since her husband was killed in action, she finished her teaching degree. We meet her on her first day of teaching high school English. Daunting? I’d say yes! But the teacher across the hall, Thorne, comes over to introduce himself and to offer any help he can to the newbie. He may have an ulterior motive once he meets her!! This is the story of their slowly building relationship. Nancy is still mourning, but also feels guilty about moving on. Can Thorne’s willing friendship help break down her walls? A lovely story you won’t want to put down.
Starting over.
Nancy is a widow with four children. Four.
She’s taken a new teaching job and meets Thorne, a fellow teacher who is intrigued by the new teacher.
What I liked?
They were older. Real life happened to them. They were both teachers. And they got to know each other.
Highly recommended.

Great storyline with characters that were so well rounded that I finished this book in one sitting!
First they were friends. Nancy is nervous about her first day of teaching. Thorne, the teacher across the way introduces himself and puts her a bit more at ease. Nancy is a widow with 4 kids. She’s “maybe” ready to start looking ahead but she has a lot of baggage. Nice couple with a slow growing relationship. Realistic story of overcoming sadness and looking to the future. I always enjoy this author’s stories. They are fast and easy reads with lots of feels and great character development. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
The fact that this book is such a slow burn makes it feel real. The characters are realistic and the base storyline is wonderfully realistic. Totally a must read.
