*Spoilers* Let me just start by saying this book was worth the wait to finish out Kan’s story. I had a hard time finishing Book 2, because there were losses that made me too emotional to finish it and I had to take a break from the book. The same thing happened for me while reading “Living with the Dead”! I was so upset at a major loss to Kan’s team that I had to stop reading it for a week. Every time I tried to continue I got mad and sad. I knew characters were going to die in the final book, heck they died in book two too, but when you grow to care for these fictional characters it really hits home. I think that’s what makes Annie a great story teller, she makes you care for people who don’t exist, without you even realizing it until you lose one. Of course there are lots of new characters in this book and how can you not love Xena & the Warrior Princess comment. It’s those little things that make it special, especially for a nerd like me!

No Spoilers. Amazing, Annie does not disappoint. This is a book you’re going to struggle to put down until it is done. Trying to move when this book just came out was not easy, but hey, who needs sleep? Kanas is a character you love and the story just flows. If you haven’t read the other three books in the series (including Rudy’s), you are in luck. Go buy them also and start from the beginning.
My God I love this trilogy. For the past few years I have reread all the books, waiting for the conclusion. I love the characters like far away friends. Annie Walls makes you care about the main character and the supporting characters. They are fleshed out with hopes, fears, some bad qualities, and the hope to do what is right. We live through Kansas as she goes from struggling to survive alone, to fighting for herself, fighting for her friends, and freeing strangers. We are with her when she decides to finally make herself live and thrive. I’m so invested in these characters. I don’t want to say goodbye. Do yourself a favor and read these books. Live in Annie’s world because it is an awesome one.
I started this series over 5 years ago. I read the first 2 and fell in love with the characters. Annie Walls truly brings her characters and storyline to life. Her writing is the perfect balance of real world dialect and beautiful artistry. Starting this book I had no idea the direction it would go, and man did this one keep you turning pages just to find out. I love how real these characters are. This book truly has it all. Romance, gore, adventure, mystery, and above all it shows the beauty in humanity despite circumstance. How one women’s conviction and need for justice can change the course of humanity in spite of all that’s wrong with it. Read these books you won’t be disappointed!
