Revenge. That’s why I decided to join the assassination class at Mount Olympus Academy. A monster killed my father and grandmother – and I’m going to make them pay.But first I have to learn how.I’m Edie. Once I was just a normal girl with asthma and a bad back. Now, though, I’m at a school taught by Greek gods. My classmates are vampires, witches, and shifters. We’re all training to fight in the … training to fight in the war between the gods and monsters.
There’s also…Val. He’s a vampire, but he’s different from the others. Plus, he’s got secrets too.
I get secrets. The wings that sprout from my back were hidden from me my entire life. I also sometimes breathe fire. But no one – including me – can figure out what I fully shift into. Honestly…a part of me doesn’t want to know.
But if I’m going to avenge my family, I need to figure it out before I flunk out.

I really love reading academy books and this book did not disappoint. I love all the characters and the authors did a great job on the story. Can’t wait to read book 2. I recommend reading this book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This has to be one of my favorite Academy Books. The twist in large grouping of characters is so diverse it add a new element to this genre.
I really can not wait to see how the story ends up playing out and how the future for Edie and Cassie ends up.
Edie was supposed to go to Greece with her family, but her asthma turned into pneumonia. Edie was able to go home but unable to go to Greece. Edie had to stay with her grandma and was pretty bummed when told her family was going on the trip without her. This was not going to be Edie’s biggest upset, especially when she learns that her whole world is a lie.
The only thing this has in common with Percy Jackson is Mount Olympus and talk of Gods. I think this is a nice new twist. The mixture of Gods, shifter, vampires, and witches makes for an entertaining story. Great start for a series.
Where to start? Well, I received an advanced copy of the second book in the series via a Facebook group giveaway so I figured it best to grab book one to start the series so I would be able to keep up when reading book two. I have not read any of these authors before but I was intrigued by the lovely book covers and blurbs for the series. I am newer to academy reads, but they are growing on me. They are quick reads and a lot of fun. I was not really sure what to expect when I started this book but I was curious and my heart went out to Edie right away with her predicament. I mean talk about a huge letdown from what you had planned. I felt so bad for her. Her grandma seemed like a hoot, though, and it was a shame that more could not have developed with her. (There’s a funny car incident that had me snort-laugh.) I am not sure what I thought of the family, there was not a huge detail of information shared on them; maybe more will be revealed in future books?
The book centered on Edie and her finding out her whole life was a lie and all the added shocks, twists, and turns thrown in to gradually delve into her parents, the circumstances that brought her to the academy and helping her understand what she is and what she can do. Turns out, the more she looks, the more secrets and lies she discovers. This poor girl just cannot win. She is thrust into an unknown world she does not understand and has nothing and no one to ground her. Everything is confusing and upsetting and she is worried for her family, trying to understand herself, the rules of the academy, catch up with the classes, and avoid the bullies out to torment her. She seriously has her hands full. There is a yummy guy that sets her heart aflutter but boy is he ever off-limits, at least if she wants to stay alive (psycho vamp sister alert here…wow!) There is also a sparkly light in the form of Cassie, her self-appointed bestie who is a seer, of sorts, who helps her navigate through all the chaos. I really enjoyed Cassie’s bubbly personality; she helped add a more light-hearted side to the read with her nonstop chattering. I enjoyed the other characters, as well, as they jumped into the mix to add their voice.
I did have some frustration with the constant avoidance of Edie getting any answers regarding her life and parentage. Some of it was repetitive and just started getting on my nerves that we could not even get a crumb or two here or there to follow through the story. Every question she asked was just shut down or ignored and even the stuff she snooped around to find only added to more unanswered questions. It seemed like it was all bottled up for later in the read where everything exploded at once. I think a steadier pace of dishing out information would have made a more enjoyable read, rather than just an almost all-at-once information dump and then diving into the action. However, overall, it was a fun, engaging, laughable, suspenseful read with neat characters to pass the time. I am glad that I grabbed the book and I am looking forward to seeing where Edie’s journey takes her and her new friends in the next installment of the series. If you enjoy Greek mythology spun to the authors’ imaginations, monsters of all kinds, magic and mayhem, drawn-out secrets and big reveals, as well as easily likable characters then this is the book/series for you.
OMG! You know when you read the blurb and you think yeah that’s sound good well I read the blurb for this one and thought wow I have got to read this and I’m really glad I did! Well written this is a fantabulous start to what promises to be an awesome series! It’s got everything from action, adventure, mystery, intrigue, Greek mythology, various kinds of paranormal beings and throw in a fantastic storyline and well you will be on the edge of your seat like me!
This is a great overall book with plenty going on in the storyline to keep me interested. The characters are well developed and engaging and the storyline flowed smoothly.

This was a great start to a new academy series! Demitria, Kate, and Marley created a new world and put their own spin on Greek mythology and monsters. Edie soon becomes an orphan and foster child once her mom and sister go missing in Greece and her dad and grandmother die during an unpredicted storm. Hermes, the messenger god from myths, shows up and convinces Edie that she belongs at Mount Olympus Academy and that monsters killed and took her family. With revenge in reach, she packs a bag, ready to leave her past behind. At the academy, things are much harder and more confusing than she once thought with unusual classmates, bullies, not being able to shift, and many secrets to be uncovered leaving her clueless in who she is and who to trust.I really enjoyed the start of Edie’s journey in this new world and the friendships and frenemies that she made along the way. Cassie and Greg were my favorite characters with their tendency to talk too much, having weird personalities, and overall side kick friendship with Edie. I can’t wait to see what happens next in the war of gods against monsters with the students in the middle of it all!
*I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review
Omg I love Edie Cassie Greg and Val. I even like Tina lol. I started this book and just couldn’t put it down it had me hooked from the start with how Edie wants to find out who and what she is. And take revenge on who killed her father. I’m still shocked at the ending up really want Edie and Val together
Well this is a very different take on Greek Gods and shifters. Here we meet Edie who is basically a shunned need and things start to happen that she can’t explain. Nevermind that her parents at also hiding some major secrets. Then all of a sudden catastrophe hits and her world is turned upside down. This book contains mystery, lots of tragedy, action and intrigue. The intrigue is mostly with Edie because you really want to know if she ever finds out what is really going on and if she can handle everything. Can she accept all that she is told? I can say that she struggles with everything in part due to her being raised in the human world. So there is a constant struggle that you will read throughout the book. This story has a great build up all the way to the end. It does leave you with wanting more!
