So K.K Allen has been on my radar for a while now… And I am kind of kicking myself that I hadn’t picked up one of her books until now. She is an amazing writer, her words flowed easily and sucked me into the plot hard and fast. I was completely taken with the two main leads, Tobias and Amelia. Defying Gravity is a second chance romance, and oh damn does it give you all the feels!
What started as a spring fling turns into so so much more… But before that more, these two have so much to overcome. These two have one hell of spring together, it was unforgettable, but when reality comes back and starts knocking on the door, it is time for them to go back to their lives and though Amelia knows she loves this man, she chooses not to follow her heart, having learned in the past that love isn’t always all it takes to make a relationship work. After reuniting Tobias is stubborn and he isn’t about to let her get away that easy and is willing to fight for her, and what he knows is meant to be, until the light is shined right into his face and he sees why the love of his life walked away from him years ago and he is now to face and figure out how to fix it all. We all know how second chance romances end. It’s in the title. But what isn’t? Is the struggle to get to that happy ending. The obstacles that fall in the way. This author weaved together a plot that was relatable on a few levels, she also made the characters relatable and I loved that. I love when you can actually relate to a character, I feel like I can connect with them and the story better. This couple went through a lot and they did indeed, Defy Gravity in every sense of the word. It was such a delight to read. It wasn’t a heavy read but it was not a light one either. It was a perfect medium and a story I am completely smitten with.
I am so glad I finally picked up one of KK’s books. This will not be my last!!
5 STARS
I loved this book! It is filled with a kind of warmth that fills the reader with hope and optimism. Not that it is all on this level. Not at all. Both Amelia and Tobias are embarking on life. They haven’t met their dreams and have further to travel in order to get there. I read Falling from Gravity first. It’s a lovely, quick read and gets you perfectly set up for this, though you will be fine if you don’t.
One of the many things I loved about this book was the exploration of those emotions linked to our sense of identity and family, so central to our lives. The book is well and generously written, engaging and life affirming. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
Amelia and Tobias had made my heart swoon so hard! So good. The story were emotional and dreamy. DG had made me smiled through the journey of Amelia who is chasing her dream. The reality of dreams can be cruel and raw. I have seen the struggle between the two to make it work. Amelia and Tobias were passionate and caring. DG was a second-chance romance you dont want to miss.
I loved Center of Gravity so I knew I’d love Defying Gravity. My favorite parts? The videos! I loved watching each of them! I felt like Amelia was such a whiner but I loved Tobias. He knew exactly what he wanted and knew that Amelia was going to be part of it. Every woman wants a man who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. Another great story by KK Allen!
Defying Gravity is an emotional three part read. K. K. Allen takes us on a journey of two lovers that meet at different points in their lives only to find that time and circumstance are never on their side. How can love be so cruel as to meet your soulmate so young only to have them leave over and over again because they need their chance to fulfill their own destiny first. This is the story of Amelia and Tobias.
Growing up next door to each other, their romance blossomed in a secret love affair that they kept hidden from their family and friends. When Tobias left for the NBA, Amelia set sights on her own dream, which didn’t exactly turn into the rainbow and sunshine picture she’d always thought it would be. I will say, this part of the story, even though extremely tough to read, is also terribly accurate. Female bullies are the worst especially when it comes to tearing down another’s self-esteem. I do like the message that K.K. Allen sends in the book about women taking control of their image and being proud of their shape. Women should be more supportive of each other instead of instantly ripping one another apart.
When Tobias and Amelia finally get to the point of having a chance of being together, a new challenge gets in their way. Is this the world telling them that they don’t belong together or just a way for them to work together to find a solution to their gravitational pull.
I received an ARC in return for an honest review. What a great story! It truly had my emotions all over the place. Talk about a page-turner. I couldn’t put the book down! I really liked both Amelia and Tobias. Both characters were amazing and their connection was intense. Through the highs and lows I honestly could feel what they felt. I also must add that I loved the video links in the book. I follow all of those choreographers/dancers so it was awesome to see them making it in the book. Great job K.K. Allen!
