When Ashley Miller sees a Craigslist ad for an all-expense paid vacation to Scotland with a handsome Highland “escort”, she’s all over it. Worn out from working two jobs to pay off the debts her scam artist ex-husband left her with, she just needs a friggin’ break already. Rolling, misty mountains of the Scottish Highlands, here she comes! But one minute she’s sipping a latte and the next she’s … next she’s zapped to the 2nd century and promptly informed she’s managed to wed her handsome Highlander without even an “I do.” Oh, hell no.
After a devastating tragedy, Connall’s tribe is left with few marriageable women. When his Druid priest suggests a place filled with bonnie lasses, he of course agrees to go fetch one for himself. But nothing prepared Connall for his sassy new wife, nor his tribe for a woman determined to see equal rights for all women.
Now the men are threatening revolt if he can’t rein his young wife in, but it might be too late. The women are demanding the men get “woke”—which of course makes no sense because they already woke that morn—and give women “the vote,” whatever the bloody hell that is. Despite all that, Connall can’t stop wanting to convince his wife to get naked, and he’s starting to wonder if he’s been bewitched.
Only the more he gets to know her, the more he starts to think she’s just what they needed. If only he survives her next demand…

An interesting twist to time travel, I really enjoyed this book. It’s well written and all the characters are amazing. I especially loved Collan and Ashley’s characters. They’re both strong characters but also, adorable in their own way.
Ashley is recently divorced and hiding from her ex-husband’s creditors. Collan is looking for a wife to take back to his time. They’re the unlikeliest couple and yet, perfect together. The only problem is that neither of them belongs in the other’s time and country. Will they be able to bridge the differences that span through time or is their love story doomed from the start?
I find it an interesting and intriguing read. I am a fan of historical fiction but when you add time travel into the mix, I think the story becomes simply epic. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to all romance fans, especially those who like a good historical romance involving Scottish men in plaids. 😉
Quarles dares to be different and I’m lovin’ it. From modern firecracker to 2nd century outcast. Move over Outlander, make room for Some Like It Plaid. Ashley and Connell may be from two different worlds, but they do share a common goal. Both are trying to work their way through heartache. With a connection that seems to transcend time, adventure that kept me mystified and heart that touches the soul, Quarles turns an eccentric romance into an unforgettable love match.
4.5 Stars
Some Like it Plaid was a highly entertaining time-travel romance. The majority of the story was spent in the past and I was impressed with the author’s story-telling when it came to the historical time period that the hero hailed from – 156 AD. Thankfully this story was lighter with some added humor, because the time period had the potential to be dark and scary with its warrior clans, Roman soldiers, druids, and slave raids. Let’s not even touch the fact that there wasn’t plumbing or hair conditioner.
The few chapters in present day moved a little slower for me, but once they were ensconced in the past, the story kept a steady and compelling pace. I loved the romantic tension between Connall and Ashley. That alone kept the pages turning, but the conflict and hardships that were indicative of the times were also a large draw. The way Ashley felt out of place and infuriated by male dominance rang very true. Although, I must say, there were times I agreed with Connall and thought that she was a bit disrespectful. Connall had his faults, as well, but I accepted them more easily due to the attitudes of the time period. Overall, I enjoyed the swoon-worthy romance and look forward to more.
Some Like It Plaid by Angela Quarles a four-star read that will whisk you away. I hadn’t read this author before but had been recommended so figured I would give it a go, I did enjoy the writing, but the story just didn’t do it for me. I don’t know why, I enjoyed most of it, but it wasn’t as amazing as I had hoped, I will go back and try another story from this author but maybe not a time travel story, maybe I can find a modern tale as I did enjoy the writing.
Normally I shy away from time-travel romances because if they travel back in time I want them to stay back in time, not come back to the present. Anyway, just my opinion but I have read Angela’s books before and her stories are always quirky and non-conformist which I happen to love so I tried this book. I loved it. Ashley and Connall’s journey to an HEA was not paved in gold. Man, I thought she might hit him over the head with his chauvinistic attitude but I understand those were the times. The really great part was that they both learned a lot about each other and about the unit as a whole. A great story!

A modern day time travel adventure. Ashley is angry at the way her life has turned out and is looking for an escape. She finds her answer when she answers an ad from Connal who is looking for a wife. When the two very different cultures and time periods crossed it is filled with hilarity and misunderstandings. It is a fanciful story that was fun to read.
An exciting whirlwind of a read. Ashley is on the run from shady creditirs. It seemed her jerk if an ex husband had used all their money in bad transactions. Instead of going after him, it seems she’s the fall “guy”. Even her family didn’t believe her when she said how controlling he we, and how he illegally used all their funds. If her own family didn’t believe her, why would anyone else? It was these things that led her to answering the odd Craigslist ad. The last thing she expected was this gorgeous Scottish man in front of her. Even less did she expect him to whisk her off to ancient Scotland. How will she survive, and can she trust Connal? I loved every moment of this read. Filled with adventure, excitement, humor, and many differences of opinion! At the center was one dynamic woman determined for her voice to be heard, and a desire to make a difference. I can’t wait to read more books to come!
Normally I’m a little iffy on historical and time travel books. Angela Quarles changed my mind. I was quickly swept into another world with Ashley. I fell in love with Connall and his tribe. Ms. Quarles wove a beautiful story, her words painted beautiful pictures in my mind and I honestly did not want the book to end.
Ashley has had a shit life. Let’s be honest, she has, but a chance meeting from a Craigslist ad answers all her problems. She thinks. She’s then thrust into a world she knows nothing about, with a man that is becoming harder and harder to resist. Connall was so swoon worthy. He may not have understood our world, but he understood a little about Ashley. He gives her time, doesn’t go all caveman on her. He is actually pretty sweet under his gruff exterior. It wasn’t hard to see these two were made for each other.
Kilts, druids, and Scots oh my! Some Like It Plaid is a magically romantic tale of a woman finding herself while learning to love again. Definitely a top read this year!
Full of action, hilarious and fascinating time travel romance. Both characters are stubborn yet they work well together. Even though Ashley is now in the “past” I like that as she absorbs her new environment, she also shares a bit of her future knowledge which benefits them and I think helps the reader not only relate but get even more caught up in this adventure. Enjoyed reading this and look forward to reading about the next plaid looking to the future for a wife. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.

My review :
What a woman is to do when instead of job offer in Scotland, she finds herself unstuck in time, estranged from everything she has always known…
Wow, since I have read Must Love Breeches, I was eagerly waiting for this new time travel romance. And the wait was worth it.
It is a so different story than the few books I have read by Mrs Angela Quarles, first the choice of a very remote place and time, then her soft feminism plea.
Ashley is feeling like she is a disappointment , her family has always made her sense as if everything she does is not right or doomed to failure. And alas, even her marriage went to ash, her trust betrayed by her ex-husband.
Now she must hide to avoid being caught in the cross-fire of those looking for her ex’s debts.
So what’s better than this weird job offer so far away she might escape her burden and be able to hold her head high again.
Connall is doing what he has to help ensure a future for his clan. He just not expected the magic of his Druid to send him far in time to find the right woman for him.
Yet, he is back home with a 21st century woman, not very pleased with the outcome of her answering to a Craiglist add.
I must confess Ashley is one hell of a woman, I have landed in a so backward place, I would have been running screaming my arms up whatever the yummy piece of highland hunk next to me.
Outside the magic side of the story, theirs is the universal one of acceptance and consideration of each one value.
Connall is a fair and kind fellow, he wants to do what is right for his tribe, finding a wife if he has too but also let her go if she feels she does not belong among his kin. He only follows the way of his father and those before him. Why even if he respects Ashley, he is not yet ready to share control with someone he feels it is his mission to protect, not the other way.
Ashley swore to never again feel helpless in a relationship, she wants a common ground where things can be discussed together. She accepts she is no match to the men’s strength but she also knows women have other values than brawn.
So when Connall appears to listen to what she has to say, she begins to wonder if going back to her time is the right decision. But not everything is what it seems, and their journey to trusting one another will not be a straight and easy one.
Outside the romance, the author did an awesome job at recreating the period and its way of life. The landscapes and the different housings become real along the words as the various peoples interactions.
5 stars for this entertaining tale about the ubiquitous quest of the right person destined to be our other half.
I was granted an advance copy through Netgalley by the publisher. Prior to it, I preordered my own.
Here is my true and unbiased opinion.

A good time travel tale is worth the time it takes to read it. I have read several of Angels Quarles time travel books and have greatly enjoyed them. Some Like it Plaid is not your run of the mill time travel offering. Druid magic is used to explain the transition between centuries. Unlike most of similar stories, Druid magic converts their stuff into the stuff of the current century, very ingenious. No having to hide or explain a modern piece in ancient times. The story itself is full of great characters, a bit of intrigue, danger, and a generous helping of humor, starting with the hero, Connell using Craigslist to find a wife. He thinks he is successful when Ashley answers his ad or is he? Ashley, a very modern woman who has trouble adjusting to the hardships and subservient position of women in the second century, in spite of her great attraction to Connall. All in all the book was a good read. My only criticism is the liberal use of profanity. At the risk of sounding prudish, I don’t use such language and I certainly do not want to read it. I do not feel it adds to the story, in fact for me, it detracts from it. I have a feeling since Connall ‘s brother is getting ready to find his own site using Druid magic, this is the first in a new series. I received this eBook from NetGalley for an honest review.
**I received a copy of Some Like it Plaid from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. These are my opinions and were not solicited in any way**
Some Like it Plaid by Angela Quarles is what I hope it the first book in a series with the men of Connell’s village. Ms. Quarles is a new author to me so I’m definitely going to check out her other books.
Being the eldest son of the Chief when a meeting is called to solve the lack of marriageable women in their village, Connell is chosen to go and find a solution. Their Druid Mungan offers to send one person into time and he volunteers. When he lands in San Francisco 2019 he doesn’t understand why no one wants to be his wife. So with the help of Emperor Norton (Another story that is worth reading) he places an ad on Craigslist for a “Scottish Lass Wanted”. Little does he know that when Ashley answers the ad that she’ll have to adjust to 1292 AD where things are not equal to women. Can he be able to convince her that organizing the women of the village is not accepted in his time? When they are attacked again and Ashley disobeys his orders to rescue the elderly can he convince her to stay?
Ashley Miller is working 2 jobs and making jewelry for her Etsy shop to pay of her ex-husband’s debts all while dodging bookies wanting money from said hubby’s bad bets. When she answers Connell’s ad and washing and cleaning really means you have do this and the bucket in the corner of the hut? Yep, that’s the bathroom and it needs to be emptied daily. She’ll have a signal tower built to warn everyone of an impending attack, help the elders escape plus transport a pregnant mom with a baby on the way get to the Castle Keep when she leaves it will be the women she helped tell him that he’d better convince Ashley to stay.
