Another great book by E. L. & T.J. Such a heartwarming and beautiful book that kept me entertained and completely satisfied the entire time. Looking forward to more books by these authors.
This is the first book in the Forsaken Hearts Series. I read this book, and I loved it. This Rock Star Romance is beautifully written, and I loved all about it. It’s heartbreaking, and heartwarming afterward, realistic, compassionate, funny, and romantic. This story is a GEM. Twitch and Gia are fantastic characters, and I loved to follow them in their slow burn story. They are soulmates, and they are perfect together. Twitch is handsome. His story is heartbreaking. Gia is lovely, caring, and supportive. The secondary characters are wonderful. I loved Doc and Delilah. Looking forward to listen to No Strings, Delilah and Zak’s story, the next installment in the Series. Elizabeth Blakely did a good job with the narration.
Twitch is at a crossroads in his life. He’s the lead singer for Forsaken Hearts, a world famous rock band, and tonight they are playing the last show of the tour. The bandmates have suffered through the tragedy of the death of one of their own and, in many ways, the grieving has yet to start. Twitch is having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that his brother is gone, but he bears unfounded guilt that he had a hand in Colt’s death. He can’t face a day without medicating himself with pills and alcohol and he’s running at full speed right into a wall of oblivion. Now that the tour is over, Twitch needs a place to go where he can disappear, keep entirely to himself and refresh his broken heart. The Gibson Family Lodge and Mountain Resort sounds like such a place and when he calls for a reservation and hears the voice of an angel, that’s the spot. As he registers, he is stunned by the beauty of the woman in front of him, Gia Gibson, the owner of the Lodge. She recognizes Twitch as the rock star he is and is amenable to his request for privacy, but it all goes wrong his first night. With a lot of patience, plugging her nose, and the help of the “lodge doctor,” Twitch turns himself around and can face life with a clean body and mind. The only thing that he needs now is Gia and he’s planning to keep her.
The narration is very well done by Elizabeth Blakely. Her voice is clear and well-modulated, giving each of the characters a distinct sound and personality.
Crossroads
Forsaken Hearts, Book 1
By: EL DuBois, TJ DuBois
Narrated by: Elizabeth Blakely
EL DuBois and TJ DuBois always give me a spectacular listen. Crossroads is not only a beautiful love story, but brings so much more to us. Twitch is the lead singer in Forsaken Hearts. Unforeseen circumstances has him spiraling down and at the end of their tour, he takes a month sabbatical to try and relax. Gia owns a quiet, yet beautiful resort, perfect for Twitch. Inherited from her father, she has put aside her dreams to carry on the inn. But when he arrives, things don’t go as he plans. Gia is there to help. And our story begins. It’s a crossroads for both of these characters. While their chemistry is real, and the romance plays a huge part in the story, the slow burn is not the main attraction of this story for me. It’s the community feel, the realistic dealing of feelings and grief, finding their way and understanding where they are going. It’s a “come to Jesus” for them both and I loved the way the DuBois’ made it all come together. Plus the lyric writing is amazing!! Love it!
Elizabeth Blakely is our story teller, and she is fantastic. Coming in as Twitch with that Texas accent is exactly how I would imagine him. She easily switches to Gia, and we get all the emotions of both coming through. She is new to me, and I will be watching for more from her.

Twitch is the lead singer for the hottest southern rock band. A band that he started with his brother and two best friends. On their journey to star dome, they indulged in all that comes with being a rock star – women, drugs, drinking and all the negatives that come with that as well. At the end of their tour, Twitch decides he needs a break, needs to get away from it all. He comes across the Gibson Family Lodge and immediately heads there to hide away. When he arrives he runs into Gia, the most beautiful woman he has ever met. He checks into his cabin only to find that he doesn’t have his cell phone or his coping mechanism – his pills. Gia inherited the lodge when her father suddenly passed away. She put all her dreams on hold to take over her dad’s legacy. She dove into to running the lodge that she never processed her dad’s passing or grieved for him properly. Twitch showing up was a distraction that she didn’t want, need or expect.
I was very surprised by this book. Not at all what I expected. This was not only a love story but also a story how different people respond and cope with grief and how they heal from it. While there is always a subplot to romance novels, I think the romance was the subplot here. It was more about them healing each other and together. I loved Twitch and Gia and their slow burn so much, they made me laugh, they made my cry and they made my heart happy. I cannot wait to see more of them in future books. That being said, this book needed an editor bad. A few times a paragraph would run on for pages, quotation marks were missing when needed or added when not necessary, two different people would be speaking in the same paragraph so it made it unclear who was talking. It was hard to follow at some points but for me – this was still a four star read. I absolutely loved this book and if it had a good editor it would have been a 5. I highly recommend this book despite the editing issues. Twitch thought he lost his music but he found his artist.
