But not everything is going to go according to plan, and the characters are all put through an ordeal that leaves them all changed. Since her mother’s death, her father has not been the same. But as he announces a crazy scheme to try to claim the Scotish Crown because they are Jacobite desendants. The worst is that he is sending her, her sister and aunt to France to be used as pawns to be wed to powerful men in France. Elizabeth is in love with Robert, who is her father’s lawyer. When the ladies decide they have to get away she goes to Robert for help. But she is upset when it appears he will not help them.

Political Intrigue, Personal Tragedy, and Romance in the Scottish Highlands
Elizabeth, her sister, and her close-in-age aunt are living a peacefully idyllic life in the Scottish Highlands. A Frenchman upends their world when he convinces their father into a crazy scheme to fight for the crown of Great Britain as a Jacobite descendant. While this story has romance as a key element, much of the plot has to do with this political intrigue, and the hero and heroine staying one step ahead of those who would do them, and Scotland, harm. The book is quite unusual, actually, but it is quite a page-turner because of all that is going on. At times, I didn’t like how the hero and heroine mistrusted or treated each other, but in all, I did enjoy the book. The authors have created three intriguing heroines; the next two novels of the series will feature them, I imagine. The story is fascinating, and I’m looking forward to reading more about what happens to this intrepid family of Scottish women.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This is a complicated story with several twists that keeps things interesting and turning the pages. Elizabeth, her younger sister and her aunt must escape before they are forced to France to wed when her father is involved in a plot to overthrow the Scottish Crown. She has always loved Robert her father’s attorney but when he did not believe her then she knows she can not go to him for help. Intriguing story that will keep you on your toes.

ALL the stars go to this thrilling, action-packed romance!
Elizbeth leads a quiet life with her younger sister, her recently widowed father, and his younger brother and sister. She’s devoted to her father’s lawyer, Robert, who is the perfect gentleman, even when Elizbeth wishes he would be a little less so.
Their idyllic life spirals out of control overnight when a plot to usurp the crown lands right on their doorstep. Suddenly, Elizbeth is on the run with her sister and her aunt and she doesn’t know who she can trust, except that she knows she absolutely can’t trust Robert, not after he turned her away when she sought his help.
The action never stops in this exciting story, written with amazing attention to detail and enough political intrigue for a dozen stories. The language is perfectly balanced to give a genuinely authentic feel while also being easy to read and intuitively informative. While the romance is completely resolved by the end of this book, the family’s political story is (hopefully) continued in future books.
The story deals with serious issues and has a couple scenes that will have you clutching your Kleenex. These are characters who become instant friends; people you’ll wish had really lived and won’t soon forget. It’s an epic Highland adventure and I couldn’t have loved it more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
