Feline sleuths Marlowe and Nero have another murder to solve at the Oyster Cove Guesthouse. A group of psychics have descended upon the guesthouse to try and talk to the ghost of Jedediah Biddeford so they can find out where he buried his treasure before he was killed. Myron, the banker, isn’t happy about the negative publicity such a group could bring but Josie isn’t turning away any paying guests if she wants to get the repairs done and repay her loan from the bank.
When tarot card reader, Madam Zenda, is murdered Josie, her mom, and Millie (the former owner of the Guesthouse and Josie’s mom’s best friend) need to find out who killed her before guests start cancelling their reservations. Of course Nero and his protege Marlowe are there to help out.
I think this is my favorite of the series so far, because Nero and Marlowe seem to have a bigger role. Not only do they help solve Madam Zenda’s murder but they can see and talk to the ghost of Jedediah Biddeford!! Yep, Jedediah’s ghost makes an appearance and adds some comic relief as he gets used to being a ghost. It seems he’s only been able to take the form of a ghost since being freed from the wall where his body was buried for 300 years.
Josie seems to be adjusting to running the Guesthouse. She’s not burning things when she bakes anymore and she’s really starting to like Nero and Marlowe. She even acknowledges that they try to communicate with her.
There were so many clues pointing to almost everyone I wasn’t sure who did it. I had an idea who the bad guy was but didn’t have a clue why I thought it was him/her other than I didn’t like them and thought they were up to something. I’m still waiting for Josie and Mike to quit dancing around each other and do something about their mutual attraction.
“A Purrfect Alibi” the third installment in the “The Oyster Cove Guesthouse Mystery Series” by Leighann Dobbs and it is one of my favourite series!
Fortune tellers and mediums have descended on the Oyster Cove Guesthouse, determined to solve the mystery of local seafarer Jedediah Biddeford’s murder 300 years ago… especially if it leads them to the treasure he buried on the guesthouse grounds. New owner Josie Waters has suddenly got bigger problems than burning the breakfasts: she’s up to her elbows in tarot cards and tea leaves…

The protagonist Josie is a likable, fun main character, with quirky supporting characters her mother Rose, her BFF Millie (prior owner of guesthouse) the cats Nero and Marlowe. I enjoyed this installment the most I think as the ghost of Jed was introduced and several mysteries were tied up nicely. I was drawn in from the get go. I love the cats most of all and the ones that help solve the murder.
The mystery was well written with plenty of twists and turns and had a steady pace. I didn’t figure out whodunit until it was revealed at the end; although I did suspect them of being shady in a previous book.
I enjoyed this book and recommend to my friends and any fan of Leighann Dobbs.
I requested and received an advanced reader copy from Bookouture and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my OWN.
It was purrfect!
Josie has a guesthouse full of psychics. All hoping to come in contact with the ghost of Jed, the guy whose body was found inside the wall in book 2. All hoping to be able to find the treasure that way. Madame Zenda pulls the Death card. Which doesn’t have to mean actual death. But of course, it does…
This time, there’s a ghost! Don’t worry; it’s not a scary ghost, it’s a cozy, little bit naughty ghost. Fun! The cats can see him, but how to make the humans understand?
My, I love those cats! And I really thought the ghost added something extra to an already amazing series! Loveloveloved it!
Everything got solved in this installment. No loose ends. I do hope there will be more books in this series. This one was the best one yet, and the first 2 were already amazing, so that’s saying a lot!
Quote: “Nero preferred his humans to have some padding because it made them more comfortable to lie on.” LOL!
A Purrfect Alibi by Leighann Dobbs was a perfect end to the mystery of Jedediah Biddeford and his treasure, but I am so sad that there aren’t any more books out to this series!
A Purrfect Alibi had all the elements from the first two books that I love so much, and I really enjoyed the addition of psychics this time. It didn’t make me laugh quite as much as the last two, but it definitely kept a smile on my face and had a surprising ending. I kinda saw this one coming just a little bit, but the big reveal was fun, and I enjoyed having my suspicions confirmed plus finding out more than I had figured out!
Once again I loved the cats in this book and basically all of the characters. The ghost in this one was a nice touch, and I really just have so much love for this Oyster Cove Guesthouse series. Sadly, this appears to be the last installment currently out and I really hope Dobbs will decide to write some more at some point. I love being in this world and I love how funny and witty the books are. All three are currently out on Kindle Unlimited and I recommend them, especially as a nice palate cleanser if you need something fun and light.
Josie Waters, the new owner of the Oyster Cove Guesthouse has a house full of psychics and tarot readers all claiming that they can talk to the ghost of Jedediah Biddeford and find his treasure. When one of the psychics is found murdered, Josie, her mom, and Millie all are drawn into the investigation. In addition, the local news reporter is skulking around the property as is the bank president, Myron. Just what are they up to? Will Josie pay attention to her cats, Nero and Marlowe, as they point out the clues?
The third book in this series, “A Purrfect Alibi” was a great read. I enjoyed getting to the know the characters better and see how the relationship between Josie and the cats grows. I really enjoyed this book and love the series. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
Josie Waters, owner of the Oyster Cove Guesthouse, has a houseful of psychics and mediums that are there to communicate with Jedediah Biddeford, the original owner of the guesthouse, and to locate his treasure that has been lost for years. Madame Zenda is the first to say she communicated with Jed. She says she has a planned meeting with Jed that evening. When a scream is heard from the direction of the cemetery, Josie, her Mom and Millie Sullivan, the previous owner of the guesthouse, head in the direction of the cemetery only to find Anita Pendragon, the reporter of the Oyster Cove Gazette, standing over the body of Madame Zenda.
With another murder at the guesthouse, banker Myron Remington is worried about the money he loaned Josie to finish the remodeling of the guesthouse.
Jedediah is able to communicate with Nero and Marlowe, the guesthouse felines. Jed wants the cats to give clues to Josie to solve his murder and the murder of Madame Zenda.
I have grown to love the characters in this series, human and feline, including the wharf cats. Leighann Dobbs has another great hit with this series.
I received an advance copy of this book. This is my honest review. A must read!!!
A Purrfect Alibi by Leighann Dobbs is the third book in the Oyster Cove Guesthouse Mystery series. I have read all three books in this series and honestly, it just keeps getting better with each installment. Ms. Dobbs does create enough of a recap on a few main subjects so that readers that are new to this series could follow along without any difficulty.
This time Josie has to deal with a multitude of guests that are different “mediums”, all the while fending off local news reporters, and an overbearing Bank Owner Myron, who loaned money to Josie through a loan with his bank for improvements to her guesthouse. Of course, she would only have to also add a pesky murder to the list as well.
As always, Josie comes out on top with the help of her Mom, Millie, this time Mike, and her two awesome cats Nero and Marlowe.
I enjoyed the plot, the murder/mystery and was unsure of the culprit until the last two chapters. I have always enjoyed Josie and her entourage. I would like to see where her relationship with Mike could go. It is obvious both of them are interested. I think he would be good for her.
Great addition and I look forward to reading more.
5/5 stars
A Purrfect Alibi by Leighann Dobbs is the third in The Oyster Cove Guesthouse Book series. It can be read as a stand alone as Dobbs does a great job of getting you caught up.
The guesthouse is full of psychics, tarot card readers, tea leaves, and a crystal ball reader all hoping to make contact with the ghost of the original owner, Jedediah. When one of the guests turns up stabbed in the old cemetery, Josie is again determined to find the murderer. And again her cats, Nero and Marlowe along with the town cats , are steps ahead of her.
Dobbs gives you plenty of suspects, humor, a hint of romance, and a great group of characters.
This is an easy read cozy that has you guessing until the end.
I was given an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review.
Another Murder at the Guesthouse
This cozy mystery continues the story arc, the series is best read in order. The plot is great and so is its execution. There are plenty of suspects and weird happenings. I love the age of the mansion and all of the antiques. This is a fun series that I truly enjoy reading. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.
This is the third book in the Oyster Cove Guesthouse series wonderfully written! I had fun reading this one.Josie Waters owns the Guesthouse and her guests are mediums and fortunetellers that have come to sole the mystery of Jedediah who died 300 years ago so they can find his treasure. Yup a mystery and a treasure hunt!! Then there is a new murder to contend with and things falling off shelves and tables. Josie must try to solve it all before someone else dies. Was the murder done by a ghost or someone in this space. wonderful characters Her mom and best friend are fun in the book but I must say I really loved the cats Nero and Marlowe they made the whole book so much fun as they know about the ghosts and try to help their human to catch a killer! Nice and fast read to pass the time.
Josie is starting to get the hang of running the Oyster Cove Guesthouse, but she is currently inundated with psychic mediums, tarot card readers and crystal ball gazers. Finding the 300 year-old remains of Jedediah Biddeford, original owner of the home, plastered into the wall, triggered a search for his supposed buried treasure. Madame Zenda, one of the guests and a tarot card reader, announces she has made contact with Jedediah’s spirit and the answers to who killed him along with where the treasure is buried will be revealed that night. Instead, someone killed her, leaving a cryptic note and Jedediah’s shoe buckle. The search for the killer is on. Was it Jedediah or one of the other guests? Suddenly, the guesthouse seems overrun with people trying to solve the mystery and of course the cats are on the case too. This is the third book in this enjoyable cozy series, I hope they keep coming.
In A Purrfect Alibi, Josie Waters the new owner of Oyster Cove Guesthouse is up to her eyes and ears in fortune tellers and mediums. All who claim can talk to the ghost of Jedediah Biddeford, a local sailor who was murdered 300 years ago and they just found his body in the wall when working on renovations in the ballroom. The real stars of this story are all the cats. They are the real detectives and have quite the army of them. Of course, it would never do to let humans know of their secret abilities, so they have to find ways to make it look like a human is the one who solves the crime. A very new and unique way of telling a story. I enjoyed this book very much. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
