Halloween is the biggest holiday of the year in Salem, Massachusetts—but when B&B owner Charlene Morris finds the dead body of a witch, it spells trouble . . . Charlene, recently widowed, has renovated her historic mansion just in time to greet guests arriving for the town’s annual Halloween festivities. She’s lucky to have a helpful staff to provide support—as well as a handsome ghost … handsome ghost named Jack standing invisibly by her side.
Unfortunately, while the revelers head out on haunted tours, have their fortunes told, or grab a drink at Brews and Broomsticks, a killer walks among them. When Charlene discovers Morganna, a local Wiccan, dead in her shop, she starts getting cozy with the local coven, looking for clues to locate the crafty culprit. Salem may be famous for the false accusations of witchery in centuries past, but this time someone is genuinely guilty—of murder . . .

Charlene Morris moved to Salem to start over and leave the ghosts of her former life behind. She had no idea that the mansion she bought to become a Bed & Breakfast was haunted by its own ghost, literally. The previous owner, Jack, haunts the halls, but he’s also her closest friend and confidant. Oh, if he was alive, what a couple they would have been.
Now, with the doors of her Bed & Breakfast open for business, Charlene is ready for her new life. While out on a ghost tour with her guests, Charlene once again finds trouble. And by trouble, Charlene finds a dead witch.
Like any good cozy mystery, Charlene, of course, can’t leave the sleuthing to the handsome Officer Sam. Oh, no, she has some detective work of her own to do. Unfortunately, the more questions that she asks, the more danger she’s putting herself into. Someone murdered Morganna, and that someone would like to remain anonymous…even if they have to eliminate Charlene too.
Even if you don’t believe in the witchy ways, this book is sure to draw you in.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. How absolutely entertaining! Charlene Morris owns a B&B in Salem and has her own resident ghost. This is the second book in the series. These books are exceptionally well written with fabulous characters. Upon reading these books I feel like I am in Salem visiting all the sights described within. I hope there are many, many more books to come in this series. Highly recommended!! Enjoy!
What fun to be in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween! Until a witch is murdered…
Charlene Morris is a recent widow who moved from Chicago to Salem. She purchased a property there and turned it into a Bed & Breakfast. The house came with the ghost of the murdered former owner Jack Strathmore. Charlene solved his murder in the first book in this author’s A Salem B&B series, Mrs. Morris and the Ghost. Seems trouble seems to follow Mrs. Morris. At the end of a Halloween tour for the B&B’s guests Charlene finds the dead body of the witch Morganna in the backroom of her shop. The meet-up for the tour was Morganna’s shop.
Charlene has a people-pleasing, caring personality. Plus she can’t look away from a mystery which gets her into lots of trouble and danger. Fortunately she has a very interested admirer in Detective Sam Holden of the Salem PD. She drives him crazy with her amateur sleuthing. He tries to discourage her and continually warns her about the danger of what she is doing. Good thing he goes out of his way to keep an eye on her.
Jack Strathmore, the ghost in Mrs. Morris’ B&B, also plays a major role in this story. Only Charlene can see him for some reason. He and Charlene are friends. That’s all they can be since he is a ghost. He is a good friend to her, giving her excellent advice and keeping her company. He also gets jealous when Detective Sam Holden stops by. In this story he plays a pivotal role in saving Charlene from danger.
Mrs. Morris and the Witch is the second book in this series. I really enjoyed reading it, not only for the mystery but also because it takes place in Salem at Halloween time. It was interesting to read about all the festivals, events and goings-on there at Halloween time. I found this to be a very well-written book with lots of interesting characters. The author managed to keep me guessing so I liked the ending. I look forward to see what kind of trouble Mrs. Morris gets into in the next book in the series, Mrs. Morris and the Ghost of Christmas Past.
I enjoyed reading this book it was the second in this new series and was very well written. Charlene is newly widowed and running a B&B when she finds a dead body. Going into sleuthing mode she helps the local coven to get to the bottom of things . I found it to be a quick read that carried you along with it. Plenty of laughs . Great world building and characters.
Linda’s Book Obsession Review “Mrs. Morris and the Witch” by Traci Wilton, Kensington Mystery, April 28, 2020
Traci Wilton, Author (Traci Hall and Patrice Wilton) have written a suspenseful, entertaining, and intriguing novel. This is the second in the “Salem B & B Mystery)” series, but can be read alone. Of course, reading both is even better. The Genres for this story are Cozy Mystery, Ghost Story, and Fiction. The story takes place around Halloween in Salem, Massachusetts. The setting is in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events in the story. The authors describe their characters as complex, and complicated. Some are quirky, and most are likable. This is a delightful and easy read, especially in trying times.
Charlene is the owner of a Bed & Bath in Salem and has also inherited the resourceful, intelligent and handsome ghost, Jack, who is part of the house. Only Charlene can actually see and hear Jack, and her cat senses that he is around. Of course, Jack can be mischievous and does cause slight problems for Charlene. Charlene is a widow, and her business is taking off nicely. This year for Halloween, Charlene is gifting her clients a bus tour around Salem and the holiday festivities. Many witches can be seen, and the retail stores also hold the interest of the visitors.
Unfortunately, a local Wiccan is found dead in her shop, after the group has visited her. Sam, a detective, and ” a friend” of Charlene’s mentions that all clues lead to one of the visitors that were on the tour. Charlene can’t believe that this is possible, and is determined to discover what is going on.
I found the Wiccans interesting, as well as the herbs and spells discussed. I would highly recommend this cozy mystery.
I enjoyed the first book in this series and was happy to dive in when I was provided an ARC by the publisher. Mrs. Morris and the Witch picks up a few weeks after the end of the first book. Charlene’s bed and breakfast is officially open with her first guests for Halloween in Salem. I enjoy the characters in this series. I particularly liked that we got to meet Sam’s sister in this book and learn a bit more about his back story. Charlene is a relatable protagonist, although she is a bit nosy and has a tendency to put herself in danger while trying to solve a mystery. Unfortunately, death crosses paths with Charlene when she discovers one of the local vendors dead after returning to her shop following a ghost tour. One of Charlene’s guests becomes a prime suspect and she feels the need to step in and prove his innocence. I like the relationship that is developing between Sam and Charlene and completely understand his frustration when she does something reckless that puts her in harm’s way. I also like her relationship with Jack, the bed and breakfast’s resident ghost. I’m not, however, a fan of how this author is setting up, to me, what appears to be a love triangle between the three. Jack is a ghost and there can never be anything between him and Charlene so I’m hoping the author takes this in a different direction with the next book.
The mystery is well done. The murder of the local store owner involves witchcraft, betrayal, deception, and adultery. There are plenty of suspects who did not care for the store owner so the author. As a result, there are plenty of viable suspects who had reason to kill the store owner and with the web of lies in Salem, the reader will be challenged to decide the identity of the real killer.
I do enjoy this author’s writing along with the setting and characters so I will be back to see where she takes her readers in the next book, which appears to have a Christmas theme.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book provided to me by the publisher, Kensington, through Netgalley. This review reflects my own thoughts and opinions.
Mrs. Morris and the Witch by Traci Wilton is the second book in this fabulous cozy mystery series (A Salem B&B mystery). I loved the first book, so I knew I had to find out more about Charlene Morris and Jack. This most certainly did not disappoint!
This book has everything I love in a cozy mystery: great leading characters, great chemistry, fabulous location (hello Salem Massachusetts during Halloween!!!!!), a great murder/mystery, and an ending with a bang.
I was held captive throughout, and couldn’t put it down. (I finished in two days!) Excellent and I can’t wait to read the next book.
5/5 stars
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington for this ARC and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
Halloween, witches and Salem, Massachusetts, a paranormal cozy trifecta!
You don’t want to miss the second book in the Salem B&B Mystery series. Halloween weekend is perfect for the grand opening of Charlene Morris’s B&B……..what’s not perfect is finding a dead witch while on a ghost tour of Salem. There are no shortages of suspects in the Wiccan community as well as guests at the B&B. The mystery is well written with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing to the end. Excited for the next book in the series.
Mrs. Morris and the Witch Is the second book in the Salem B&B Mystery series by Traci Wilton, the pen name for the collaboration of seasoned authors Traci Hall and Patrice Wilton. This story takes place just a week past the end of the first book. It is Halloween week in Salem and Charlene’s B & B is completely booked on its grand opening weekend.
On Halloween, Charlene has scheduled a special tour for her guests led by friend and owner of Brews and Broomsticks, Kevin Hughes. On the group’s walk through town on their way to the historic graveyard they visit stores including Morganna’s Witch House, where they are taken with the special glass orbs she makes. Assured she will be open until late for those in the group wanting to place orders, they are surprised that the shop is dark when they return, and startled when they see the young witch sprawled on the floor.
As Charlene is the one who found her, she becomes embroiled in the mystery of what happened to Morganna, unraveling a ball of deceit and an underground of illicit drugs. As Charlene tries to protect one of her lodgers, a young man who said he had simply come to Salem to meet a girl, she crosses swords with Detective Sam Holden and paths with those intent on purveying evil, endangering herself once again.
This is a very good paranormal cozy mystery with strong themes and modern messages. The characters are likable and the plot is twisty. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it and look forward to the next book in this series.
I haven’t read a paranormal cozy mystery series quite like this and I’m really loving it. It’s has a very unique love triangle going on for sure plus I just love me some Silva. I need that kitty in my life. Definitely looking forward to the next ones in this series.
I enjoyed this story, very much! The main characters are believable, fun, imaginative, and quite endearing. The plot is easily followed and the entire story was good. I definitely recommend this book.
