Not a whodunit, more women’s fiction followed up by espionage thriller
Phoebe lets her aunt Helen draw her into a crazy mission. Only upside: she gets to meet Morgan. Dual POV between Phoebe and Morgan.
I started out liking this book. Even though the quest was questionable at best, at least it was fun. But it went downhill after that. And I really didn’t like the bit leading up to the end. And that was because it didn’t live up to my expectations. Expectations that were generated by the book description. Here is a tagline from the blurb with my comments added: “If you like cozy mysteries (YES I DO!!!) with an international flavor (YES I DO!!!), you’ll love this humorous joy ride that will pluck you from the safe confines of the Pacific Coast and drop you into a thrilling mystery on an exotic island in the Indian Ocean.” Now here is how I would describe it: “The first two thirds of the book women’s fiction, the last third international espionage thriller.” The storyline was all over the place. Too many different ideas crammed into one story. And: no mystery. At all. We knew whodunit straight away. I also found the writing style to be just a bit choppy, not flowy. It did get suspenseful, but only way past halfway through and the first time it was over in literally one page. This book was good enough to finish, but I can’t give it more than okay.

Phoebe realizes that she misses her family greatly, and her partner Matt talks about not wanting to miss watching his little girl grow up. An urgent message from her great auntie about a family emergency sends her speeding around the globe for the rescue of a cat dear to her auntie – the emergency it seems she was contacted about.
The alleged culprit? The retired army man who seems to have a crush on said auntie. In a weird twist of fate, it is Phoebe and Auntie Helen who are arrested for misdemeanor B and E. And the lawyer who represents Helen? The grandson of the alleged cat thief, who is the one who contacted the authorities about the housebreak.
A tangled tale of espionage through generations, heartbreak of many kinds, and oddly composed romances, that do not all work out follow.
Loyalty and love hold together the lucky ones, if they continue to be lucky enough to survive.
It should be an interesting neighborhood as many of those tangled up in this mess lay down more permanent roots together.
A funny and intense adventure.

Missing You
A missing cat, a break-in, a lawyer and a government agent and a partner missing in Sri Lanka make for a very good love story and mystery.
I received this as an ARC and really liked it.
Good addition to the series and tied the story lines together very nicely. It guickly picked up a brisk pace and moved along with several improbable situations but still believable and fun. The action turned a bit dangerous in the end but came to a satisfactory end. I enjoyed it.
Missing you touches on regret, atonement, and longing for love. The characters were developed well along with the story line. When its all said and done, love conquers all and we must realize that walking through this journey of life isn’t to be done alone. This seems to be the essential message through the series.

Espionage, romance, breakups, leaving a job, starting a new business, jail time, court hearings, terrorists, rescues…it’s all here in one book! I’m really hoping that there will be more books in this series because I LOVED IT!

Phoebe Clay, a multi-lingual espionage agent for the US government, has to return home from her assignment in Sri Lanka on an urgent rescue mission. Her Great Aunt Helen’s text warned her to trust no one – but the only “emergency” waiting was that her Aunt Helen’s cat was missing! Instead of meeting her Aunt Helen at her home, she was texted to come next door and not to wake the owner!
Her Aunt Helen was dressed in black with her face and neck greased to hide her skin. She swore that the elderly Tucker Harrington had her cat and she refused to come out of the house until she searched it. His grandson, Morgan, was out on a date and the elderly Harrington was asleep. They searched all but the basement before a police detective, Morgan’s date Janet, burst in with a gun, followed closely by a tall, handsome man in a black coat – Morgan. Phoebe couldn’t keep her eyes off of him. She and her Aunt were locked in a cell and Phoebe suggested they get a lawyer. But there was no need – Morgan was Aunt Helen’s lawyer and would get them out when he was ready to do so! Phoebe was starting to think Aunt Helen set up this whole thing, just so she could meet Morgan and steal him away from the detective whom she obviously disliked! Strange, but even Morgan and Janet’s body language did not show signs of a close relationship.
Phoebe was seriously considering moving home permanently, but first she had to finish her last mission. She had found a paper she needed to translate and turn over to her boss. She had trouble with one part of the translation, and sent it to a professor who had lived in Sri Lanka and could translate it to confirm her findings. What was on the paper, and was it critical to her mission?
I really loved reading this story, but I didn’t really think of it as suspenseful, exciting, or a mystery. It was, however, a good falling-in-love story that was slow and enticing and probably a surprise to the couple! Regardless of how this book is classified, it really is a good one and very enjoyable.
