Whether reading this series for the first time or taking advantage of the boxset to read this series for the first time, this is a wonderful addition to any paranormal library. Kathi S. Barton is known for her fated mates, her exciting storylines, and as always heated chemistry that only she seems to bring.
1. HUNTER
‘Hunter’ is the first book in Kathi S. Barton’s “Emerson Wolves” series and what a dynamic story this one has turned out to be. If you’ve read the blurb then you know the Emerson men, all six of them, are wolf shifters and had sent in an application for Alpha of the pack in Sommersville. None of them knew which one was Alpha until they arrived and found out it was Hunter, the oldest. Pete, the alpha leaving, filled in what he thought was the pertinent information Hunter would need before handing over the reins. Miss Giles owned all the land and buildings used by the pack, did the repairs, and paid the taxes with the understanding that she was left in peace and was not disturbed. If something was needed she could be sent an email and would correspond that way. Yes, she was a wolf but Pete hadn’t met or seen her in all the years he’d been there and didn’t know anyone else who had either. To top that off, she owned most of the buildings in town, had the previous mayor fired, and threatened to close the bank. Hunter wasn’t having this. Just what was this woman doing and he intended to find out because he didn’t need someone undermining his authority with the pack or involving them in something nefarious. With all the twists and revelations in this storyline, it absolutely kept me turning pages quicker than I realized. It’s hard not to anticipate what’s in store for the rest of the brothers with all the new changes that have come into their lives.
2. LUKE
If you’ve read the first book, then you know they’ve finally rid the small town of the previous, corrupt mayor and have convinced Luke to take the position. What a mess to clean up and an even mess to be found. Thankfully, the previous mayor had an intelligent assistant in Allen. Not only was he efficient in his position but took note, literally, of the goings-on in the town with names, dates, and incidents. These will become invaluable. Allen soon after receives a phone call from the hospital in a nearby town asking him to come for his sister who has been severely burned in a house fire. Because Allen doesn’t drive, Luke takes him, only to find out Jacklyn, aka Jack, has a less than five percent chance of pulling through AND she’s Luke’s mate. This one is definitely a page-turner with corruption in this small town, a dangerous and crazy family member, a mate in dire circumstances and, don’t let me forget, we meet a friend of the family in the form of a vampire. The series continues in ‘Jarrett’ and I’m anticipating answers to open-ended questions I have. This one is well worth the book hangover.
3. JARRETT
Jarrett is book three in Kathi S. Barton’s “Emerson Wolves” series and this one is a page-turner, to say the least. Addison, aka Addie, has been running from herself for the past five years. I love the description Ms. Barton has used to explain our heroine’s depression by calling it her tea. Since tea is brewed in stages, Addie’s bouts of depression have been described as being “deep in her tea”. And that truly sums up the mood and personality of our heroine. She’s had a dark path to walk between death and guilt that she just can’t, nor really wants, to shake. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on who is looking at the situation, Addie runs into Cash Emerson in the grocery store parking lot. Cash leaves knowing this woman is severely depressed and has the overwhelming need to watch over her and keep her safe. The true emotions dealing with her situation along with the good vs evil storyline kept this an interesting and exciting addition to the series.
4. ELLIS
What a gripping story ‘Ellis’ turned out to be. Each book of Kathi S. Barton’s “Emerson Wolves” has become a little more intense with each son’s story. Ellis and Dawn’s story is gripping in its intensity. You know that saying, you need to watch the quiet ones? Yeah, Ellis proves that theory to be true. As quiet as he’s been up to now is as strong an Alpha as he turns out to be holding inside. And his mate Dawn? The life she’s had to live and the secrets that finally came out had me gasping at times. This one was an emotional revelation that I didn’t see coming but this fated pair well deserved their happy ending.
5. LEE
I’m going to say this. I don’t know many people who haven’t at one time or another in their life, felt like they were fighting to take one step forward and four back and that’s exactly how Kimber described her life. It seemed like ever since her mom died she’s fought tooth and nail for every step she’s taken trying to better not only herself but the life she was trying to provide for her daughter. Lee, our chef in the making, has decided he really enjoys the end process of critic and helping failing restaurant owners improve their business even though he still enjoys cooking. I know I say each book just seems to get better and better but this one completely brought all the feels. I’ve never read a shifter story that took a twist like this. Ms. Barton completely broke my heart and brought me to tears. Just before I started questioning her thoughts, she gave me a glorious scene that left me a bit breathless. So much going on in this storyline and I’ll admit, it’s been the most intense, sigh-worthy book of the series to date.
6. GRAHAM
‘Graham’ is the sixth and final book in Kathi S. Barton’s “Emerson Wolves” series and it’s the most intense storyline of the series. Murder, kidnapping, chaos, and bedlam run rampant through this final storyline, and yet through it all there is a powerful rightness to family, truth, loyalty, love, and of course the chemistry of a fated mate. A powerful ending to a great series.
