A fast paced, page turner starts the first of this Coffee Shop Mystery series off in fine style. Sarah Jane Weldon has created an exuberant cast of colourful characters who keep us intrigued and entertained from the very first page. The story is set in a snowy Austrian ski resort. The insulated nature of this setting lends itself very effectively to creating a build up of tension and suspicion amongst the small group of resort employees… alliances and friendships are tested until the truth is eventually revealed in a suitably dramatic manner.
The story will appeal to all cosy mystery enthusiasts who enjoy a witty and well plotted storyline and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
The book contains an informative glossary at the end of the story as well as recipes so that you can read your treat and bake it too!
This book was a wonderful read. Two long time friends, Maddy and Eloise, have just passed their A Levels. They are going to spend the next year as a gap year before enrolling in University. They plan to own their own Private Investigator Agency. They have planned a long time and have some money put aside. Their plan for the gap year is to work as cafe baristas in a ski lodge in Austria. Things start to go wrong just as they thought all was good. Someone is murdered and Maddy in blamed. They will need to put their investigation skills into plan now. You will have to pick up your copy of the book to find out who killed whom?? A wonderful story and great read
3. 5 stars – Maddy and her best friend Eloise freshly graduated from high school. and want to take a gap year before studying to become PIs.
Their first stop is a working holiday in Val d’Isere, where they both got a job at a small Café. Flying there they meet Sophia, a young woman just out of culinary school, graduating first in her class as a patisserie chef. She was supposed to start her new job there, but finds it was taken by her nemesis, Audrey.
When someone dies in the Café Maddy and Eloise jump in to solve the case, especially after Sophia is one of the main suspects.
The story is not bad, but if feels like a teenager has written the story, someone with no real life experience. Although the story is engaging this lack of realism made the story difficult to read for me at times.
