You may have noticed I am trying to catch up before Prairie Fever releases in September. I am very much enjoying this series and the relationship to the Resolution Ranch series which I am reading in tandem. No pressure here at all.
In this one we get to know Cassidy Grace, the strong willed yet damaged combat pilot. She takes chances she shouldn’t, because it’s her way to deny her PTSD. Now a firefighter in Prairie and a pilot with the National Guard she battles the flames.
Parker had started something with Cassidy before she left for basic training, years ago. He wants to start where they left off but isn’t sure how she feels about it.
Battling a massive wildfire, Parker on the ground and Cassidy in the sky the two meet up as their crews get some down time. Sparks fly and emotions sizzle.
This book is very intense, the fire scenes are vivid and explicit. You can feel the tension and exhaustion of the crews in every word.
The heat isn’t only in the fire though as Cassidy and Parker ignite the pages. So much to love and overcome. Parker’s help with her motorcycle and his dismay at the damage she’d done to it, but thankfully not to herself. The overlap with the ranch and working with the horses, as Cassidy works on her issues. And so much more with Parker.
Family, friends, drama, excitement, tears and plenty of love.
I couldn’t put this book down.
Just when you think the ‘Cowboys of the Flint Hills’ could not get any more emotional – BAM you’re hit with more! This is an amazing story that hits on the struggles and challenges that our brave men and women who serve and have served our country, fight our fires and protect us everyday face. This book is a testament to the true spirit and grace of human nature.
Cassie and Parker are truly great together. They have a deep respect and understanding for each other that goes beyond the love that they feel and that love lets them conquer the world. They are comfortable with each other. They enjoy each other’s company and know how to have fun and how to have some steamy times that can make you green with envy.
This series has become one of my favorites and I look forward to more antics from the town of Prairie. I highly recommend reading this book as well as the others for the passion, the love, family, community and heart. You know how a story and characters can stay with you after read, you just keeping thinking about them and reflecting on it or wondering what happens next? Well, this book and the previous ones are like that – so good. It doesn’t stop at the last page.
It was too raunchy for my taste.
Wow! A wonderful story!
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Parker and Cassie’s journey was wonderful to see. My heart broke for both of them as they worked through painful pasts; but the strength and courage they gained was heartwarming.
Great book. Cassie and Parker grew up together and really were in love most of there lives just didn’t realize it. Cassie was in the military but came home broken and feeling no good for anyone. Parker wanted to be a doctor but his family needed him to much cause his father was killed in an accident and Parker took over the father figure and taking care of his mom. Parker was a firefighter and a paramedic and also worked on a ranch. Cassie ended up back in town and a helicopter pilot for the firefighters. Her and Parker still had feelings for each other. Interesting learning about the firefighters for the forest service. Very informative! Parker is an amazing man. Every women’s dream man. Great standalone with an HEA!!!
I liked the characters and their search to resolve the problems keeping them apart. A good read also as the reader learns about the dangers of fire jumpers and helo water and rescue brigades.
At times this is more sex scene then story … but it does have a really really good story. I was moved by the issues of a military heli pilot returning home as a fire heli pilot/guardsman. The emotional/spiritual cost of war. She loves a forest fire not-yet-hot-shot firefighter. And he loves her. This is the story of her recovery from the wounds of war. Powerful story.
** spoiler alert ** Cassidy lives off adrenaline and flying. Parker is determined to do whatever he can to help those around him. Sometimes guilt and surviving cause problems. Will Cassidy accept she needs help? Will Parker be able to prove she is who he wants?
I love Tessa Layne’s books and this one was no different. I loved the fact that these two have a back story and a friendship to build their relationship on. I didn’t blame Cassidy for struggling, but loved when she finally accepted that those around her loved her. I loved how Parker had a bit of a super hero complex and he was willing to do anything to help those around him. Good read!
A NEAR DEATH MAKES ONE SEE REALITY
The story seemed to start off a little slow for me, but once it got started, it was something to read until the end. Parker Hansen and Cassie Grace had been best friends, and brief lovers before Cassie joined the military. Once back, after a horrific time in Afghanistan, Parker had to wade through Cassie’s problems that she feared had made her an unlovable person and a monster. They had also made her reckless with her life. Fighting forest and prairie fires in different capacities, had them worrying about each other staying alive.
This story is about two people who have loved each other for a long time and get a chance to make it last forever. First they have to work through their fears and insecurities. Cass is a fire brand who craves danger. She is recovering from all the bad stuff she saw during combat. She no longer thinks she is worthy of love. Parker only wants to save the people he loves. He feels deeply and is quietly accepting the things he cannot change. The one person who he wants to keep safe forever is the one he loves the most Cass. There is plenty of heat when they get together but her fear is real. They are the perfect match to catch fire.
Book five in the Cowboys of the Flint Hills series a well written story that once I started I was not putting down. Cassidy Grace has loved Parker Hansen for years now both of them work for Prairie’s fire brigade this is their second chance. I enjoyed reading how these two get their happy ending they will have a lot to go through before they do. I received an Arc copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Wildfire…
This was an extremely emotional read. Being the spouse of a retired military man, I have witnessed what can happen to those who return from combat. Survivors guilt and PTSD are real. They can eat away at a person until they leave only a shell of the former self. In this story, Ms. Layne does an excellent job relaying this message. She also points out that this issue isn’t limited to just combat. Natural disasters and accidents can have the same results. I adored Parker and his unwavering faith in Cassidy. Simply stated, I loved this story as a whole.
*I received a copy of this book via Hidden Gems which I am voluntarily reviewing*
I was blown away! This was riveting, exciting, full of action, healing, friendship, and love. I love that not only is Parker in a line of work that would be considered dangerous but so is Cassie. She has depth and suffers just as much as Parker and it takes them going through their separate journeys together to heal. I will be reading more from this author now and I love discovering new authors!
Beautiful love story surrounded by heat!
Parker and Cassie have known each other for years, but never really got a romance off the ground. Now Cassie’s back in town, and her crush on Parker is on the back burner as she comes to grips with the emotional fallout from her military service. Parker finds himself more attracted to Cassie than ever, and he’s not going to let her doubts and insecurities stand in their way.
They both work in the firefighting field – he runs a team of firefighters and is also an EMT, while she pilots helicopters that provide air support for wildfires. Their jobs overlap their interactions, but that mostly provides the setting, not the focus of their relationship.
All of our Prairie favorites are on hand to help Cassie and Parker work through their issues, which are complex and heightened by the intense danger these two face in the field. The firefighting scenes are true edge-of-your-seat nail-biters, told with such clarity that you can almost smell the smoke and feel the heat as they struggle to stay alive while ensuring the safety of their teams.
The HEA was solid, sweet, and so satisfying. Every time I read one of these Flint Hills stories it’s as though I’m transported to Kansas for a visit with old friends. I highly recommend this book, and this entire series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This book sucked me in from the very first. Many of the events in this story take place simultaneously with those in “A Hero’s Honor”, which had occasionally left me a little baffled while reading Travis and Elaine’s book because I didn’t realize it was published after this one. This book gave me so many of the things I love in a story, and my brain is failing me for how to put in words just what it was that I liked so much about Parker and Cassidy. It was easy for me to feel how much Cassidy meant to Parker. It was in his every word and action. It was a little tougher to see it from Cassidy’s side because of how closed her military experiences had left her. But it wasn’t hard to see in her thoughts how important Parker was. I really appreciated the thoughtful care and attention that went into crafting this story. I was especially moved by the way this story shows how PTSD affects more than just our military personnel and some of the ways that are being used to help. I look forward to reading lots more about Prairie and her sometimes quirky inhabitants.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.
I liked that Cassidy Grace was a strong, independent, bada$$ chopper pilot. She suffered from PTSD, which she wasn’t able to hide as well as she thought. Parker was strong enough to stand beside her to both provide support and allow her to be her own person.
They found strength and love in each other, which was difficult as they both had demanding, dangerous jobs. I imagine that it helped they had unknowingly loved each other for so long.
Besides the romance and the steamy scenes, this book has its far share of action, suspense, and danger. Those fire scenes will have you holding your breath. The last one was seriously intense.
An entertaining book that I found hard to put down. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book received via Hidden Gems.
What an emotionally charged book!! Not only were the characters creating heat in this book both in anger and in sexy times but the fact that these characters deal with forest fires kept me on the edge of my seat.
Parker is a man who likes a plan and being the hero. Working as both a paramedic and also as a hotshot he is a man who has to know what is going on and always tread carefully. His life and the men in his unit demand that.
Cassidy is woman who likes to live life on her own terms and be reckless at times. She is someone who is always looking for the adrenaline high. When she comes back home and tries to fit back into small town living, she realizes that it might be a little harder than she thought. Trying to hide severe guilt and nightmares from those that she loves becomes increasingly more difficult and she starts becoming more reckless. A near miss, a hard cop, a loving man, and fear of losing the love she didn’t think she deserved makes a woman take pause and reevaluate her priorities.
I loved this book and this series. I can’t wait for more.
Parker Hansen wears many hats in his hometown of Prairie, Kansas. He is a paramedic, firefighter and rancher. He fights wildfires in the summer and is the Crew Boss of the Kansas Unit. His dream was to attend medical school, but instead he felt obligated to stay home and help his mother on the ranch when his brother, Cody, left home to be a bull rider. When a tornado tore through Prairie last summer, his Uncle Walter lost his life, and Parker vowed to always keep his loved ones safe. His life would be perfect if he had someone to share it with, and luckily for him, she had just moved back to Prairie. He wouldn’t let her get away again.
Cassie Grace flew Blackhawk helicopters for the Air Force in Iraq and Afghanistan. She recently moved back home and was able to transfer to the Kansas National Guard Unit and she also joined the Prairie Fire Department. Her mother lost her cafe during the tornado last summer and Cassie was glad she could be home to cheer her up. But the truth was, she needed cheering up, too. Cassie and Parker had always been friends, and as they got older, these feelings became more romantic. They shared a special night before she left for basic training eight years ago, which was a dream come true for Cassie. Now that she was home, she longed to spend time getting to know Parker again.
Will Cassie be able to put her past behind her or will she be too afraid to open her heart to Parker?
Can Parker reassure Cassie that he will always be there for her, or will she push him away?
“Prairie Fire” is the fifth book in the Cowboys of Flint Hills series by Tessa Layne. This is a wonderful story, as are all the books in this series. Tessa brings together two people who have experienced great heartbreak in their lives, with the hope that they can comfort each other and take away the pain. Cassie and Parker’s journey is romantic, passionate and full of hope, and I know you will love their story as much as I did. I am looking forward to Tessa’s next book, “A Hero’s Honor”, the first installment in the Flint Hills Military Heroes Series.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review
Prairie Fire: Cowboys of the Flint Hills) by Tessa Layne
This is Parker Hansen and Cassidy ‘Cassie” Grace’s story.
Parker and Cassie had a past and end up working together. They work together to putting out fires. One fire they can’t put out is the fire between them. Cassie is still dealing with nightmares from her tour in Afghanistan. Will Cassie be able to take a chance on love?
I think this is one of my favorite books in this series. Parker and Cassie are great characters. This is an entertaining, sexy, hot, and emotional read.
FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
