Well done! Fabulous romantic suspense. Intense, sad, creepy and it makes you want to double check your doors and steer clear of Oregon (sorry, Oregonians, she makes it so scary!) Loved.
The first in the Rogue River series, co-written with Melinda Leigh.
It’s a short read, as is common with a novella, but neither the story nor the characters suffer.
I have been working my way through Kendra Elliot’s backlist after discovering her books earlier this Fall. I’m very interested in this collaboration of a series of novellas with another author.
There is a promising start in this first book. We meet Stevie Taylor, a cop who has come home to her Oregon small town after several years on the police force in LA. Her father, the former Chief of police died unexpectedly and coming home for his funeral spurred her to make some changes. Zane is surprised to find himself the new chief of police after the man who took over briefly after Bill Taylor’s death abruptly quits and recommends Zane for the job. Their first case is the death of a local teen at a party.
The intrigue is well written and there is lots of mystery. We’re given several clues to strange goings on that are clearly going to play out over the course of these novellas. The romance between Stevie and Zane is also going to play out that way it appears.
I was completely sucked in by the story and listened to/read it in one sitting. Going to dive right in to the next one. Only disappointment was that I didn’t realize this was going to be a cliffhanger and that it appears the story arc will be serialized over the course of the books. But now I know and will be prepared for it in book two.
Wonderful characters so very easy to like, thrilling with perfect balance of emotions. Such an enjoyable story. Narration was perfect, so very lively it truly draws you in. I definitely recommend this book.
Reviewing Audiobook and Ebook versions.
This book had me from page 1! LAPD officer returns home to join the police force where her deceased father was the chief. Her job is to track down the dealer responsible for a new drug that’s killing teens. Throw in a possible love interest and you have a captivating story. Looking forward to the next book.
Stevie Taylor returns home from LAPD to work for the Solitude PD after her father, the Chief of Police has a fatal heart attack. This is the start of a series written by two authors. This one has teens dropping dead suddenly for no apparent reason and by the end we find out there is a new strain of drugs running rampant through the area. Did they find the source or will it lead back to the former Chief’s heart attack? I am going to keep up with this series.
Fast fun thrill!
Great introduction to an interesting little town with some shady residents and complicated cops. Looks to be the beginning of an exciting series!
Okay
This was my first book from Kendra Elliot. It was okay, maybe I was not able to dive deep into it, because it is very short and the story runs fast. I will try the next one in this series and see how this will go.
I read all four books in this series and was extremely happy that all were available. This sucked me in, the characters were believable, and I’ll definitely be looking for books from these authors again.
