Hunter! Her dad’s job is with the dead . . . and he’s bringing his work home with him.Once again, seventeen-year-old Riley Smith is the new kid in school and her dad’s career has her back to being dubbed a freak. Truth is, she’s a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only company she keeps these … she’s a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only company she keeps these days is the dead who follow Dad home from work. She can see them. She can speak to them. And Fate seems to think she can help them solve their last problems so that they can move on to the other side. Which is odd, because with the loss of her mother and her father’s alcoholism, she’s got enough problems of her own.
But nothing could prepare her for the next tormented young spirit who darkens Riley’s door. The young woman’s death wasn’t the accident everyone believes. Soon Riley finds herself face-to-face with the killer and her only protection comes in the form of another spirit, Hayden, a boy her age with a heart-melting smile and understanding eyes that make her feel safe. If she can escape becoming the killer’s next victim, Riley knows she’ll have to help Hayden move on too, but what if she can’t let him go?

I got so caught up in these characters that I read all three in a row. Enjoyed them tremendously
This is a talented writer, who creates a believable reality of a teenager’s existence. It is the first in a book series, so some of the things I wanted will probably be revealed later on in the series. There is a superb balance supernatural elements, romantic elements, family relationships, and true friendship.
I loved this book! CC Hunter knows when to make you laugh or cry at just the right moment. I devoured her entire Mortician’s Daughter series.
Read it in one sitting. Lost track of time I was so involved with the story. An excellent book.
The main character was fun to root for. Her encounters with dead people were fun and sometimes scary. It was a page turner.
Excellent writing, great story, definite page turner, amazing characters. Teen heroine isn’t annoying or stupid, like so many others stories are. I got this book for free and instantly bought the next book once I was finished. So far the writing in the second book is as awesome as the first.
A good read about a girl, daughter of a mortician, who can see and talk to the dead.
I loved this book. It was gripping and entertaining and well written.
I liked it so much I bought the next two in the series and so far, they are just as good as the first one.
A light hearted book with an eery twist. It was fun for me. I read many of the sequels.
Interesting premise. Likable characters.
Seventeen year old Riley Smith is in a new place with her father and she has a secret, for some reason the dead come to her for help. Riley has enough on her plate as being the student oddball once they find out her dad is a Mortician, but Riley sucks it up and goes about her day. A favor to an older woman lands her with a friend of sorts which for Riley is rare. When one of the ghosts though continues to appeal for help, Riley finally agrees. Riley has another spirit by her side though, Hayden, he is unlike the rest and seems to be more in limbo not to mention he is almost life like. Riley is conflicted with her feelings for Hayden. Is dealing with her Father and suspicions he might be an alcoholic. Throw in a terrified ghost, Riley has an uphill battle especially when she finds that there is a serial killer who is actively hunting for his next victim.
I liked this quite a bit, was not was what I expected. Anxious to read the next book. It does have a cliffhanger ending which I am not overly a fan of but looks like the next book is available. Riley I thought was a great character and I thought the way this was written is very descriptive making it easy to imagine what is going to happen.
