Amethyst Keane lives a lonely existence. Growing up her mother moved them around so many times she gave up on having a normal life, and friends. She threw herself into her school work and started publishing a magazine at the age of seventeen. Almost three years later she’s completely independent and as lonesome as ever.On an assignment for her magazine she visits a small coastal town. While there … While there she meets a boy and for the first time she feels as if she might not have to live a solitary life. As she explores the town’s legendary ghost she also uncovers secrets and lies regarding her family, and maybe, she has more in common with the spirit haunting Ghost Peak Island than she would have ever believed.

Dawn Brower is really awesome. Every book she writes I try to read it . This was a bit different from the last ones I read as those were more historical stories. I definitely recommend this book.

So many secrets. This story was so unexpected. I didn’t know where it was going at first but there are several stories within the story. The past, the present, and the future. And they all revolve around this little town and a woman who lost her child and husband all within a short time. The locals say her deceased husband haunts a small island but now one has ever claimed to see him. But Amethyst is a journalist and the story about this couple intrigues her. What happened to Marianne after her husband died? She has just lost her tiny son and husband so where did she go. Did she ever recover and have a new family or did she commit suicide as some suggest? And what is the mystery behind her husband’s death? Why does the painting of Marianne look so much like Amethyst? And why does Cooper, the man running the inn she’s staying at and who she is attracted to, have a godfather who seems so cold towards Amethyst and is always asking personnel questions about her life? This is a different kind of love story it starts with Amethyst Keane coming to Ghost Peak Island and meeting Cooper. She will meet ghosts, find out secrets, lies, and curses of her family, and find romance. A story that is both sad, and cheerful. Audiobook review: Kindred Lies is an interesting story. The writing needs a little more polishing, it’s ok for teens but as an adult the writing felt stunted. I liked the romantic storyline though. Good character build with some depth. The narrator did a great job! I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Kindred Lies is an intriguing story about a woman who discovers more about her family than she ever imagined. I like the way the story took the legends and ghost stories and pulled me into the story leaving me on the edge of my seat wondering what Amethyst and Cooper would find out. This book is definitely worth taking a chance on especially if you love ghost stories full of mystery and intrigue.
Kindred Lies by Dawn Brower is a really interesting story. In this book, Amethyst is a writer who travels to a small town to write about it. When she arrives at the town’s Inn she meets the innkeeper Cooper. This book has a family mystery and several great love stories all in one very entertaining book. This is an interesting story with strong characters in Amethyst and Cooper who have an instant attraction. Finding out she’s a writer he entices her with a ghost story at the Inn. The author sets them out to find out more about the tale. She brings intrigue as well as romance and a ghost and kept me guessing right to the end. It’s an entertaining story and I enjoyed reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
A romance wrapped in a mystery, a haunted island, and a ghost. Yes, I said a ghost If this were a movie or a play the ghost would get top billing. The book was okay (I did not see the twist) but I do prefer the Regency novels the author writes. Especially her Linked Across Time time travel series. That is her best work. Contemporary, not so much.

Amethyst and Cooper feel an immediate attraction but is there more to it. There was an issue or two that don’t seem to have a resolution. Is Ben a jerk or is there something else going on with him? Nick’s character was rather exaggerated. The story is interesting but I felt there could have been more to it. More character development would have been good.

Amethyst Keane walked up to the quaint inn, loving that it had a private beach. Water soothed her and she inhaled a deep breath. Walking inside, the man at the desk took her breath away! He was gorgeous! She managed to tell him she had a reservation – but forgot to give him her name! She was editor-in-chief and owner of ASK Magazine and may be able to use him in her research for her article, so she flirted back at him. Cooper Marchant offered to show her around town if she wished. He told her the best two places to eat – the only two actually – and was disappointed when she didn’t ask him to join her. But she was tired and needed to rest right now.
Cooper thought he was imagining her when Amethyst walked in. She looked very much like someone everyone believed had died many years ago. She was an enigma and he intended to unravel all of her secrets, glad that she would be staying a few weeks. His best friend, Benjamin Anderson walked in to see if he could get away to go on the boat with him. But Cooper was covering for the night shift and was too responsible to shirk his duty. As they talked, Amethyst came downstairs and Ben was dumbstruck. When she left to explore the town, Cooper told Ben to back off since he was pursuing Amethyst. But Ben laughed and said he wanted her and the best man would win! Cooper had a ghost romance tale that he thought would be just the thing to entice Amethyst, the writer! Easton Hill died in this inn and it was said the ghost still walked the halls!
Cooper knew Amethyst was interested in Easton and Marianne’s love story, so he allowed Amethyst to see her journal. They sat together on the couch and read the story. Cooper’s great-grandmother was mentioned in the journal and Amethyst realized he had more invested in the story than she had realized. When Amethyst stood and turned around, she almost gasped! She looked at a portrait on the wall, and the woman looked exactly like her! Cooper told her that was Marianne Trenton-Hill! Just as Amethyst felt compelled to follow this story, Cooper admitted he had always been drawn to it and that he would help her find the answers she needed. There were secrets somewhere, intertwined and needing to be unraveled. Would Amethyst and Cooper be able to solve this mystery together? Because if they do, it will change their lives forever!
Wow, this intriguing story had a life of its own! The story line raced along faster and faster as more information came to light. The characters were amazing and so real! I think the best word to summarize the final part of the book is “intense”! But somehow it all then came together and was sorted out! Grab your copy of this amazing book – you just might meet a ghost along the way . . .
