Nurse, Lizzi Yates, is assigned to provide end-of-life care to Charlie Maidley, one of Britain’s footballing legends, on the condition she keeps his identity a secret. Unbeknownst to Lizzi, Charlie’s doctors have agreed to allow his sister, Miriam, to take him home to die on the strict understanding he remains in an induced coma, due to his history of assaulting women—a side effect of his brain … his brain tumour.
Miriam goes away on business, leaving Lizzi in charge, but a mishap with Charlie’s medication has Lizzi questioning why he is spending his final days comatose. Deciding he is being sedated without just cause, she makes the call to wake him up. However, a string of events and the discovery of a girl’s body at the bottom of the garden lead her to wonder if she’s made the right decision.
Who is the killer?
Could Lizzi be his next victim?

Netta Newbound has a new fan in me! I was instantly drawn into this story and the characters, and I stayed up rather late finishing reading. I had a theory on every person in the book, but Netta Newbound always found a way to throw me off and make me question my thoughts. That takes an incredibly talented author.
The characters are so well written. I found each one was unique and I loved that no one really seemed trustworthy. It just always felt like whoever I was reading about was a suspect and then BOOM, just kidding.
Loved this plot. I also really loved the finale. It wasn’t rushed, but I was flying through the end. When the reveal happened, I was completely thrown off. I had imagined the murder mystery being solved in many ways, but I loved this ending.
I highly recommend checking out Rage. It’s definitely worth the 5 stars, and it’s in the running for my top favorite books of the year! Don’t miss out!

Lizzi Yates is the home nurse assigned to tend to Charlie Maidley, a man with a brain tumor and not expected to live long. Unknown to Lizzie, his doctors have agreed to let his sister take him home as long as he is fully sedated at all times. His sister is hiding a secret from the world …. because of his tumor, he is dangerously violent with a history of assaulting women.
When Lizzi forgets his medication one time, Charlie awakens, is lucid and she wonders why they have him in an induced coma during his final days. Taking it upon herself, she makes the call to not medicate him any further. With his sister overseas, Lizzi makes the decision.
But later on, when a young woman’s body is found at the bottom of her garden, she wonders if she has made the right decision, after all.
This one takes creepy to a new level. Charlie seems just fine, but is he really? Is Lizzie next on his list? There’s Nigel … the neighbor from hell. He takes a dislike to Lizzie when she tells him off …. he likes to watch her and she’s had enough. The thing that man does …. gives me the willies. Then there is Phil, her neighbor, a widow with two children. There’s an attraction, but he may be harboring secrets of his own.
It was a little show starting for me.. but when it started moving, it moved at a pace guaranteed to keep you hooked on the story until the unforgettable ending.

Wow, what a fabulous edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller this was. It’s been a long time since Netta has released a book but it was well worth the wait.
Lizzie is hired by Miriam to look after her brother, Charlie, a footballing legend, who is sedated 24 hours a day in end of life care and then Miriam goes off travelling. Lizzie slips up with Charlie’s medication and he wakes up. This is where the book really takes off, well that and when a girl’s body is discovered at the bottom of the garden.
Twist and turns galore with this one and the ending… well, I didn’t see that coming at all. No intentional red herrings which infuriate the reader, just a great all round mystery.
A fabulous read, Netta never fails to deliver gripping thrillers. Highly recommended.
Another great psychological suspense!!!
I love Netta’s books and this is no different, a brillaint story that kept me guessing all along. I didn’t see the twist coming at all and that was before the shock revelations at the end!! Maybe a continuation to follow? Brilliant!
This is my first book by Netta Newbound, and if this is how all her books are written, it certainly will not be my last. What a read.
When I read the synopsis for this book I was immediately intrigued, anything with nurse involvement is something I want to get my hands on. Not only do I love medical thrillers, I enjoy picking apart all the medical aspects of the book to see what I agree or disagree with, it makes me feel a little more connected to the case. (Just a little sidebar). This one was no different.
Rage is about a nurse Lizzi who is hired privately to take care of a homebound patient Charlie who is in an induced coma. When Charlie’s sister leaves Lizzi unattended in the house to go out of town, Lizzi starts to question if the patient really needs to be comatose in the days leading up to his death, and unaware of the circumstances leading to his drug induced coma, weans him off his medications and allows him to wake up.
As a murder investigation suddenly develops in the neighborhood outside the home of where Lizzi is caring for Charlie, and after meeting an oddball yet suspicious cast of characters in the neighborhood, Lizzi now questions if allowing Charlie to wake was the correct decision, or if there is someone in the neighborhood she needs to worry about.
Let me first start by saying that no nurse would ever do what Lizzi did. That’s not to say there isn’t a nurse who hasn’t WANTED to do what Lizzi did, or hasn’t seen similar situations, but no good nurse would ever wean a patient off their meds on their own like Lizzi did unless they clearly wanted to lose their job and license. But, for the sake of this story, and the fact that it made the book all the more thrilling, I am willing to admit that there are probably people in the world who would go ahead do something like this.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat reading and you will devour it quite quickly. The characters are normal, likable, every-day sort of people, so you could be in your own neighborhood. The entire time you are reading you will constantly be trying to figure out who the murderer might be, and you will be constantly changing your mind. The author certainly keeps you on your toes, and the book is not in the least bit predictable at all. I don’t ever do spoilers, but I will tell you that you won’t see this coming regardless.
I cant wait to get my hands on another Netta Newbound book, I hear all her other thrillers are just as good. I think I have another new thriller author to add to the TBR. Netta, I give your a solid 4 stars for this book. I loved it. Keep writing the thrillers with the medical twists, I love them.
Thank you to Netta Newbound, Junction Publishing and Sarah Hardy from Book On The Bright Side Publicity and Promo for the opportunity to read and review this book for my unbiased and honest review.
I’ve actually loved every book that I’ve read by Netta Newbound. Rage was no exception. I’m not sure whether to rate it a thriller or mystery/suspense. Perhaps it should be all three.
I particularly love a book that keeps me guessing all the way to the end. This one does that. The story revolves around Lizzie although there are many characters to get to know. Hired to take care of a patient who is dying and must be constantly sedated Lizzie has a lot of time to think–and forgetting to give him his medication one night opens up some serious questions she has
to ask herself. If her employer finds out she’ll be fired, but her patient deserves the opportunity to live just a little before he dies, doesn’t he?
Add a handsome widower who lives next door, his adorable daughter, Kate, and who doesn’t love a curious puppy–until he discovers a dead body near the garden. Who killed the young teacher? Could Charlie have done this on one of the nights she didn’t sedate him? And what is Phil hiding and why does he seem so guilty?
You’ll have to read it for yourself to find out. A definite five star read for mystery lovers. Highly recommended.
