Noah Hanover doesn’t mix business with pleasure—ever. His relationship and subsequent marriage to Mateo Aquino, hasn’t even been a blip on his team’s radar. I really enjoyed this book. I was sad for how much Noah kept from Mateo but I understand he thought he was keeping him safe. Mateo was able to forgive him and that was good. I thought they were such a good couple and I loved reading about them. They also had great chemistry and I loved that I didn’t feel bored while I read. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
These authors are smart. They tease us with thoughts from the bad guy they’ve created right at the very beginning. It certainly got my attention.
Mateo Aquino is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Noah Hanover hopefully holds the key to solving our mystery. The authors get us involved with the action right away. We get to see how his group works as a team.
This has a thought provoking storyline that may have you wondering about your own partner. How well do you really know your loved one? How do you feel about secrets? What if it was reversed – you’re the one holding back. Would you hold anything against them knowing it was for your safety and the safety of others? Mateo givez voice to those feelings you would probably have. Noah will show how well he can apologize for what he felt was necessary. We get to see the bond between two people that love each other as well as the bond of those that work together.
It’s a story that had me thinking about a couple of the old time shows. I Spy and Man From U.N.C.L.E come to mind but adding a modern twist. With this story we have a mix of personal and work life. Our authors do a great job in not letting one side overtaking the other. At times though, I wanted to see more suspense – that’s what did it for me.
We see two men who love each other both by words and by deeds. Only you can decide what you’re comfortable with. It’s a matter of trust. For the characters, we have to trust that the authors won’t create any scene that seems out of place or doesn’t make sense. For the reader, they won’t give us something that you couldn’t picture fitting into the real world.
The ending doesn’t really put a period on anything. It shows that this series isn’t over yet. I think the ending is just a set up for what is yet to come. If you haven’t read Rule Breaker yet, now that you’ve finished here why not go back and read the book that started it all.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
I have read this duo before and I love their work! The storyline and characters were fantastically written. Noah and Mateo are perfect for each other if you overlook the fact that Noah is lying to his spouse about what he does for a living. But the lying is all about protecting Mattie from the people that would come after Noah for revenge. Only time will tell if they can save their marriage and put the untruths behind them. The characters are so likable you just can’t help getting invested and rooting for them to work out. I can’t wait for the next installment of this series!
This second book in the Project ROOT series is every bit as captivating as the first. There’s lots of drama and suspense. Add to that some internal team friction, interesting new team members, an old familiar friend from Susan Stoker’s Special Forces: Operation Alpha world and two very hunky male heroes…Wow!
Somebody messed with the wrong person when the kidnapped Noah Hanover’s husband. Mateo Aquino is Noah’s heart, his soul. Noah and the ROOT team pull out all the stops to find his missing partner. Then Noah must explain his double life to his mate and it’s not going to be pretty. Hoping he still has a marriage when all is said and done depends on just how willing Mateo is to forgive Noah.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting for this book for what feels like forever (in reality it’s only been 4 months) & omg it didn’t disappoint!!! I have to be honest I was a little wary that this book would be able to compete with the first in this series, not because of anything the authors did but purely because I enjoyed the first THAT much (& maybe because I’ve claimed Asher as my book boyfriend lol) but wow, just wow. Everything about this book was fantastic. I love that the characters personalities are still just as strong as they were in the first book yet their personal growth shines through & that the storyline was just as brilliant & in depth. There’s nothing this book lacked in any way nor can I honestly find a single flaw in the story or writing itself. The fact this book is also crossed over with Susan Stokers series’ is an added bonus, having been a fan of her books for a long time it was great to see some familiar characters.
These authors are incredible & so talented at creating a world that totally immerses you. I seriously can’t wait for the next book, I need to know what happens with Murray & especially AJ, Scotty & Thomas asap!
Extracting Mateo is the second book in the ROOTS series. It is a M/M book featuring Noah, the team’s sniper, and Mateo, his teach husband of 10 years. Noah has lied to his husband from the beginning. He has no idea his spouse is a bad “a” black ops guy and has been going all over the world on dangerous missions. That is until he is kidnapped by a crazy man. He’s rescued 20 percent in but the fallout of the lie goes on a lot longer. So does the search for the bad guy. This book didn’t flow as well as book one. There was so much that could have been done with these two instead of them getting busy every time they were alone together. Also, I never want to hear the word “rear” again after the over 15 times referring to their azz. If you’re going to write a M/M book get a Thesaurus or a web site for words. And Joseph Franks turned into Johnathan in this one. Poor Gabby isn’t going to know who her daddy is! An edit is in order for this one.
