Take one failed rancher turned matchmaker and ten unexpected women looking to become brides. Put them all together in a house in Bent, Colorado. What could possibly go wrong? Chance Redburn lost his ranch and his only living relative, his Aunt Viola, in the same week. Now he has no choice but to try and make a go of his inheritance., Viola’s matchmaking service. He arrives in town to a shipment … shipment of brides to match and no idea how to do so. To make matters worse his aunt kept no records of who her clients were. The only thing he finds is a stack of letters that informs Chance that one of the women expects to be matched to him! Only he never asked Aunt Viola for a bride.
Violet Montgomery left her classroom and home in Greenbough Alabama to become the matchmaker’s assistant and hopefully make a match with matchmaker’s rancher nephew. Only when Violet arrives the matchmaker is dead, and the nephew is now running the matchmaking service. Does he know Violet is supposed to be his love match? Can Violet help the clueless man figure out how to match brides to grooms? Why is the town calling him The Bride Herder? Even worse why is Chance checking the women’s teeth and asking their weight? Find out in the first book of the exciting Bride Herder Series: “A Bride to Herd.”

George has done it again! He builds a world like no other and it draws you in, never letting go! Loved it… and glad I’m not Chance Redburn! LOL
George McVey has the tough job of introducing a new series and bring an interesting book. After inheriting his aunt’s matchmaking business, Chance decides to approach matchmaking in the same manner he would match bulls and heifers, but he finds it really might be more like herding cats. Enter Violet, the young lady his aunt has picked as her assistant and oh, yes, Chance’s bride. With a total of 10 young ladies, including the one that is suppose to be his, Chance has a challenge ahead of him. I look forward to finding out who the other young ladies get.
I absolutely adored this book! The characters were so fun; I’m looking forward to reading more about the characters introduced in this first book. I really liked Violet but Chance and Beans were right up there as my favorites. There is so much to like about this story, the humor and the absolutely clueless way Chance handles everything! This is the first book by George McVey that I’ve read and won’t be my last! Fantastic!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
This books is an excellent beginning to a new and fun series, The Bride Herder series.
I loved this first story in this fun new series. I laughed often and out loud. This is a great concept to a new series and a new one taking a rancher and turning him into a matchmaker after his dear aunt dies and leaves him everything, plus the timing was perfect as his ranch was taken from him and all of his cattle and horses except his own. Now how does he and his ranch cook fair in this new adventure that will surely be a disaster especially when the ten brides arrive on the same night he and his cook arrive tired and sore from the dusty ride to where is aunt’s house is.
This a concept that in of itself is hysterical thinking a rancher can first off handle all these women let alone find them matches. He at least reads the note left him that his aunt sent along a new assistant to help her as well as said assistant was to be her nephews match albeit unwanted. Think of the title of the series The Bride Herder and you’ll understand how funny that is and imagine what could possibly come of these poor brides. I highly recommend this first book and you will be laughing in no time at all. I can’t wait for book two now. Laughter is good medicine, right?
Much fun and laughter. This new series starts off with a bang! Chance Redburn has lost livelihood and his Aunt. Inheriting her Matchmaking business is quite the change in his cowboy/rancher lifestyle. He tries to make the best of it when the first night in his new home the arrival of 10 brides to be matched up are entrusted into his “capable” hands.
What follows is pure enjoyment. At times You will laugh out loud at the antics of Chance as he tries to figure out how to be a Matchmaker!
Will his Aunt be proven right in bringing Violet her to become his bride and her assistant? He is a stubborn man.
The characters in this book are well developed as well as the plot and story line setting up many more books to come.
This is going to be a fantastic series!
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review!
“How hard can it be to pick a woman for a man and get her to hitch up with him?” Beans said. Chance thought about that for a few minutes. “You’re right Beans. It can’t be much harder than pickin’ the right match fer breeding quality beef. But I still ain’t looking to get hitched myself anytime soon.” Famous last words from Chance Redburn who had just lost his farm and his life as a cattle rancher was done. His Aunt Viola had just passed away and she had left him her house and business as a matchmaker. A matchmaker for a rancher?
Such a fun, delightful story and the beginning of a new series as only George McVey can pen! Chance with his old cowboy cook Beans, make their way his aunt’s home in Bent, Colorado. What was going to be waiting though were ten women looking to make their match Miss Viola had promised to make for them. Except one of those, Violet, had already been told that she would marry Miss Viola’s nephew Chance if she chose.
All I can say is don’t miss this tale that will make you laugh, sigh and just be smiling as you turn the last page!!
