What I think you should know:
Caryl Macadoo has once again written a book that makes me feel like I am visiting a big Texas family. Bipartisan love is a Companion book to the Texas Romance Series, however if needed it can be read as a stand alone novel with just glimpses of most of the other characters. I would count this book as a recent historical fiction as it was set in 1969/ 1970 after Nixon had been elected as President. Although the book is based on a political campaign with one of the characters being a Democrat and the other a Republican, it is refreshing that unlike most of today’s politicians they can actually work together.
What you might want to know:
The book touches briefly on rape, violence, drugs, premarital sex an abortion. It does not condone or glorify them, but they are mentioned.
Who I loved the most:
Cody is such a wonderful character, he shows such strength and moral Cynthia/ Cindy is an interesting character even if she is very committed to getting what she wants.
What I could have done without:
Personally I could have done without the Kissing Cousins comment, while they are related by adoption or marriage I personally found it creepy. I also hated one of the character’s stance on keeping his word even if the other party broke the contract, I think that there are times that is it ok to say no, even if you have previously committed
Who will love this book( Just to name a few):
Fans of Recent Historical Fiction,
Fans of political fiction
Fans of books about Texas
I received a complimentary copy for this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
This was a great book. As always, Mrs. McAdoo told a wonderful story and I loved the story of Cody and Cynthia. One of the things I liked, besides the story, was how it showed how God’s timing is perfect if we just trust him to work things out. I really enjoyed watching this story unfold and I would recommend it.
I received a PDF copy of this book from the author and was not obligated to write a positive review.
A fun book to read about a campaign manager who comes back to her home town and runs in to her ex boyfriend who is thinking about running for City Council. She talks him into running for Congress instead and helps him do that with the aid if his new girlfriend. She soon discovers that this new girlfriend is not there for the right reasons and cares for someone else. Come along on an interesting ride and see what happens you won’t be disappointed.
A wonderful read. Caryl is great at storytelling
Bipartisan love
Cynthia comes back to town and finds Cody is engaged to someone else. They had lot touch during the years. Will they be able to reconnect?
Cynthia loves politics. Cody decides to run for congressman. So she helps him Campaign. Which meant a lot of traveling. His fiancé wasn’t too crazy about all the traveling.
This book is part of a series but is written as a stand alone. There is mention of characters from other books. You don’t have to read the other books first. There is one place in the book where they are talking about the past relations. A question is asked “how do you keep all this straight”. Referring to the past family. I asked myself “how does the author keep it all straight “?
There is a lot more to the story. It is a historical. During the time when Nixon was running for president.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.
It is 1969 and the world is really changing. There is a war going in Vietnam and many people are not happy with politicians. Cynthia has been in love with Cody for as long as she could remember. They haven’t seen each other in a very long time, but that is all about to change. Cynthia has decided that Cody would be perfect as a Congressman and she believes she can help him win. I wonder how Cody is going to react to this news. First, he hasn’t seen Cynthia in ages, second she broke his heart and third he is engaged to be married to Amy. I think that is called a complicated mess.
I have to say how much I loved Cynthia and her enthusiasm to get Cody elected. Of course she is still in love with him, but right now her focus is on him winning. The girl can sure talk someone into doing something with her smile and brains. Her credentials are impressive in the political field and she just might be the right person to get him elected.
Cody is one of those guys you can’t help but like. He is a true gentleman and his morals are impeccable. I loved how he would not be intimate with a woman until they were married. Seeing Cynthia again has stirred up old feelings, but he is engaged and has to stop thinking about her. It was hilarious to see those ugly jealous eyes coming out when Cynthia meets Cody’s fiancee. Her nickname for her is hysterical and I laughed every time she called her “Bleachy.” Amy is not completely honest with Cody and I didn’t really care for her at all. I felt like she was looking for someone with money. She is well written and there are a few times I felt like she was a lost soul who needed guidance.
There is a lot going on in the story that needs to be mentioned. This story is written in the late 60s when marijuana was becoming very popular as was other drugs. I liked how the author held true to this time period and didn’t hold back on subjects that may be sensitive to some. There is a definite faith element throughout the story which is very important as some decisions were made. The story is not only about politics but secrets, forgiveness and hope for a future. I am always impressed with the author’s books and this one is especially good because it tackles tough issues with compassion and teaches us about waiting on God.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
This is an older Contemporary or newer historic Christian romance written by author and storyteller extraordinaire, Caryl MacAdoo. The reason I say older is it is set right after the assassination of Bobby Kennedy. While that might not seem historic to me, it actually is.
Bipartisan Love is another delicious serving of God glorifying fiction from author MacAdoo. It is a different type of story and I loved every bit of it. The author’s down home honest style of writing draws me right in from the first page and keeps me until the story is finished. This was filled with emotions, life lessons, faith, humor, and of course romance.
The author has researched her material well. The characters were delightful and very realistic. Each seemed like someone we would know. Conversations were saturated with colloquialisms, making them even more authentic. With the author’s vivid descriptions I felt like I was in the middle of the story myself.
This is the story of Cynthia and Cody, high school sweethearts. It is a tale of forgiveness, trusting God and His timing, starting over again, betrayal, love, and second chances. It is about faith, family, and friends.
I highly recommend this delightfully written novel. It gets a rating of 5 out of 5 stars from me. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but I was not required to write a review. These are my own honest words.
My Thoughts:
For starters, I have not read any of the prequels or related titles to this novel. I have read Cheryl McAdoo before though and love her writing style. She has a bold style that I’ve not encountered before. When reading this book you’ll find mentions of God, church, and “mary jane” within the same chapter.
Yes, this book does talk about marijuana use, racing fast cars, and the Vietnam War. But that’s the time period it’s written in and I found it did not affect my thoughts on the book or author. I didn’t have a problem reading this book with the above subjects.
What I did have a problem with is Cody Wayne’s fiance. I mean come on! Why would a guy like him fall for a girl like her? She’s all wrong for him, all wrong. And of course, Cindy is all right for him. She knows it, his parents know it, even his little sister comes to see the light. But how can they convince him?
I normally don’t read books that center around politics. It’s not my thing. I don’t enjoy getting into political debates at all either. So I’m not going to tell you what voting party I am. But I am going to say I loved how they were able to be civil with their differences of political views. Also, I love that Cindy knows, just knows, that Cody is going to make it up the political ladder someday. She may not agree with the party he represents but he 100% agrees with him running the government.
This fiance, Amy, is quite the character. Daddy is a banker and she’s used to getting what she wants when she wants it. Money is more important to her than love. I feel sorry for her but also just want to tell her how it is too. She definitely plots her own course.
Great read. Highly recommend it. You do not need to read the other books that this goes with before reading this one. It tells it’s own story without making you feel that you’re missing something.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
In 2019 its hard to imagine that a Democrat political consultant would even consider promoting a Republican for anything and certainly not a Congress seat. Back in 1969 Cynthia was willing to do just that for Cody Buckmeyer. Perhaps it stemmed from the fact that they had been very close many years earlier. However, there was a lot of water under the bridge, some of which was very muddy and then there was a questionable fiancé. But business is business and promotion and campaigning must go on. With lots of patience, political support continues to grow, but will the love they had before be renewed? I enjoyed this story where waiting on the Lord’s leading was the highest priority.
I received an ARC through CelebrateLit. I recommend this story and the impressions and opinions stated are my own.
