What a wonderful story this is! This author knows Alaska and her stories about small towns in Alaska are fabulous! This is the first book in a new series and I’ve already fallen in love with the characters and then town. Sage Duncan is the famous kidnapped Alaskan baby from 25 years ago but she just recently found out herself. She decides to return to Owl Creek to learn about the family she was stolen from and get some answers but not disclose her identity. There is a reason why she decides not to do this and in her mind, it’s a valid one. However, when she meets sheriff Hank Crawford on the first day there, and his amazing family, it gets harder and harder to keep her secret. Then there is her birth family, which she discovers, is also amazing. What will she do? I loved knowing all of Sage’s thoughts and especially the anguish she was going through. It was a terrific book!
The first story in a new series, Home to Owl Creek. Owl Creek, Alaska. Sage Duncan and Hank Crawford have to walk the path to forgiveness in order to get their happy ever after. It’s fun to read stories about the explosive path to love and romance as long as your guaranteed a happy ending. One of the many things I enjoy about Belle’s stories is she keeps you guessing until the very end of our favorite horse and heroines are getting a happy ending. When we trust our Heavenly Father with our story we get the ending we’re supposed to get – Always!!!
I like stories about Alaska and the small town of Owl Creek in Alaska was just perfect. The breath-taking setting and tight-knit community made me want to live there.
Sage got quite a shock when, on her deathbed, her mother confessed to kidnapping her as a baby. Anxious to learn where she came from, she went to find out about her birth-family in Alaska. She expected to arrive in the town unnoticed but that didn’t happen. The family lived in a small town where everybody knew everybody else. So she stuck out like a sore thumb. Finding information about her birth-family was harder than she expected, especially with Sheriff Hank Crawford watching her. Keeping his town safe was important to Hank. Almost as important as his baby girl. Getting used to being a single dad and keeping watch over Owl Creek were full-time jobs. When Sage Duncan came to town for a break from teaching, he didn’t believe that was her only reason for the visit and was going to find out what she was hiding. Does it have something to do with it being the 25th anniversary of the disappearance of Lily North? Lily had been kidnapped as a baby and the anniversaries were always hard on the family and town. But the 25th anniversary was especially difficult for them. Since the North family were wealthy owners of the local chocolate factory, the disappearance attracted some wanna-be Lilys. Is Sage one of those?
The characters in this story are very likeable and easy to identify with. I liked the way the community supported each other and were especially kind to the North family who never stopped searching for their kidnapped daughter. Readers who enjoy small-town romantic suspense will love this story.

This was my first official read of 2020. In Her Secret Alaskan Family, Belle Calhoune takes us on a journey that I believe is worthy enough for Hallmark to take a script from! Belle Calhoune times the storyline wonderfully, has a great character development, and gives us a wonderful, heartwarming, suspenseful romance that comes at just the right time. While tackling some hard issues of life such as being a single parent, kidnapping, and choices, the author weaves a tale that is sure to inspire you if you are a fan of Hallmark movies!
I received this book free from the author as a prize, and was not required to give a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Sage Duncan’s life is totally changed when her dying mother confesses that she had kidnapped Sage as an infant. Sage longs to find her birth parents but she also feels great love and loyalty to the man who had been her father for twenty-five years. Eric Duncan was also a victim of this lie and Sage is determined to protect him from being charged with kidnapping! What follows is a heartwarming tale of a young woman traveling from Florida to Alaska to find her true identity but instead, discovering so much more.
I loved reading how the small community of Owl Creek rallied around a family who had their baby girl taken and continued to support them during the twenty-five years after their baby’s abduction. Author Belle Calhoune perfectly shows the many repercussions from the desperate act of one unstable person—intense and never-ending heartache for a grieving family and the emotions of a young woman whose life is thrown into shambles. Sage feels cheated from never knowing her birth family but also struggles with her love and loyalty for the only father that she has ever known! Getting to know the wealthy North family as she seeks the truth shows Sage just how much she has missed and reminds her that family is everything, money certainly doesn’t guarantee happiness, and love and forgiveness are necessary if you truly want to find lasting peace.
There are several special characters in this book, including Sheriff Hank Crawford and his adorable daughter Addie. It is apparent that Hank and Sage feel an attraction but Hank isn’t ready to risk another heartbreak! I also enjoyed meeting Hank’s mother and sister and the two young men who turn out to be Sage’s brothers; I am hoping that their stories will continue in the next books of the Home to Owl Creek series. I highly recommend Her Secret Alaskan Family to anyone who enjoys Christian romance and contemporary fiction.
I received a copy of this book from the author but I wasn’t required to write a positive review. These thoughts are my own.
Owl Creek, Alaska is a long way from Florida. Enjoy visiting the wintery wonderland and the close-knit community as Sage Duncan visits and learns about her true background.
She knew she was adopted. The dying confession of her “adoptive” mother was a total shock. Her”adoptive” mother actually kidnapped her from a prominent family in Owl Creek, Alaska. How could this be? Sage Duncan only guessed the Snow family, owners of the North Star Chocolate Company were actually her birth family. She found news clippings in the attic about the kidnapping of Lily North twenty-five years ago. Sage has decided to visit Owl Creek to learn about the North family. She feels she can’t let them know who she is because she fears they will bring charges against her “adoptive” father who knew nothing about the kidnapping. He was told the baby his wife brought home after an extended trip away was given to his wife by two young teens who couldn’t raise the baby themselves.
Sage found Owl Creek, the people there, the North family and especially Sheriff Hank Crawford much to her liking. She discovered the Norths never stopped looking for their daughter. What a mess! But she had to protect the father who raised her. Such secrets are hard to keep. How will everyone have a happy ending? Especially since Sage is falling in love with Hank and his number one requirement in a relationship is honesty.
Her Secret Alaskan Family by Belle Calhoune is the introduction to her Home to Owl Creek series. She writes a number of books which take place in Alaska. This one highlights Owl Creek, a small town which is home to the North Star Chocolate Company. The characters in this story are very likeable and easy to identify with. The story is rich with eye opening descriptions of the beauty of the Alaskan countryside. I liked the comfy feeling of loving families who support each other and the dedication of the people of the town to the North family and their search for their kidnapped daughter. Readers who enjoy small-town romance will love this story.
