Wow! Loved the movie so I decided to read the book, and was not disappointed! Different in some ways but a good different! Spoiler alert! No gay Robert De Niro! Which was a little dissapointing to be honest… but still team book! Also this book led me to an amazing author.
When the movie first came out years ago I adored this but didn’t know until later that it was based on a novel. I knew I had to read the novel and finally got the chance. I was not disappointed. Neil Gaiman crafted a wonderful, whimsical, romantic world that gives us something we all desire to do. Reach for the stars. Dare to dream. Fight for love. Go for it.
STARDUST is a modern fairy tale for adults because of the lashings of sex, violence and gore. But then traditional fairy tales, before the Victorians and Disney sanitised them, would all be X-rated these days.
The book takes a tongue-in-cheek look at fantasy tropes: lost heirs to the kingdom, a perilous journey to win the heart of a beautiful maiden, witches, unicorns, and the battle between good and evil.
Gaiman writes the story in a dry, old-fashioned style, which uses the language and attitudes you would expect from the nineteenth century.
This is an exciting romp, packed with the whimsical, the humorous, and a very dark edge.
I read this because I loved the movie and thought the book would be better. It was not. Still a really cool story, but the ending didn’t feel as well thought out as the movie’s ending was.
Amazing tale for older kids to adults. A great place to start on your Gaiman journey. The graphic novel is beautiful.
A very enjoyable fantastical adventure. Extremely satisfying. The guy gets the girl, the bad guy gets his or hers and you don’t know how your going to get that by the ned of the book. Great story telling.
As usual, incredible writing. I love this guy.
One of my all-time favorites
I really enjoy reading NG and this is book was very enjoyable.
A stellar hit (pun intended)! Intriguing world building with a cast of colorful characters that keep you turning the pages to see where the adventure will take you. Funny, entertaining and well developed plot.
It’s been a while since I’ve read this book, but I absolutely adored it! The story was magical, and Neil Gaiman’s style was superb. I look forward to reading it again in the near future!
Neil Gaiman has written many amazing books and stories, but this one is my favorite. As poor Tristam tries to prove himself to the woman he thinks he loves, he winds up proving his worth to himself and finds the woman he’s destined to love all along. This one has it all and is worth keeping and reading over and over.
Not to be confused with the movie!
This is a poetic fairy tale for adults, bittersweet in the manner of real life, and if the ending is happily-ever-after it is only within the bounds of mortality. This contains some of Gaiman’s best prose and you will probably read it again.
Neil Gaiman is a master with words. Nearly any book you pick up from him will be worth reading over and over again, but the one title I keep coming back to is Stardust.
Stardust is the kind of book that is perfect because it sucks you in and makes the real world fade away. Within a matter of pages, Gaiman’s poetic prose will whisk you away to a world of magic, adventure, romance, and love.
In many ways, Stardust is a modern fairytale. The story revolves around a young man trying to bring back a star to the woman he lives, and yet, through subtext and layers, it’s so much more. Through the genius of the writing, it’s both laugh out funny and has moments that will cause chills.
From start to finish, Stardust is smart, and no matter how many times you revisit the novel, it will leave you feeling wonderful.
