The first book in a major new series from #1 internationally bestselling author Lucinda Riley, author of The Midnight Rose–hailed as “an extraordinary story and] a complex, deeply engaging tale filled with fascinating characters” (Library Journal). Maia D’Apliese and her five sisters gather together at their childhood home, “Atlantis”–a fabulous, secluded castle situated on the shores of Lake … situated on the shores of Lake Geneva–having been told that their beloved father, who adopted them all as babies, has died. Each sister is handed a tantalizing clue to her true heritage–a clue that takes Maia across the world to a crumbling mansion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Once there, she begins to put together the pieces of her story.
Eighty years earlier in the Rio of the 1920s, Izabela Bonifacio’s father has aspirations for his daughter to marry into the aristocracy. Meanwhile, architect Heitor da Silva Costa is devising plans for an enormous statue, to be called Christ the Redeemer, and will soon travel to Paris to find the right sculptor to complete his vision. Izabela–passionate and longing to see the world–convinces her father to allow her to accompany him and his family to Europe before she is married. There, at Paul Landowski’s studio and in the heady, vibrant cafes of Montparnasse, she meets ambitious young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, and knows at once that her life will never be the same again.
In this sweeping, epic tale of love and loss–the first in a unique, spellbinding new series–Lucinda Riley showcases her storytelling talents like never before.more
It was a page turner for me.
Enjoyed it.
This was a touching, loving book about very different sisters. I have read books 2 and 3 and am looking forward to 4 and 5.
This book was completely not my preferred genre but I was trying to ‘expand’ my limits. I absolutely LOVED this book & the entire series!!!! I am so glad I chose this one. I am terrible at giving reviews but just trust me, you should read this book.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy this, but having read the blurb, I liked the story of seven sisters based on the Pleiades, it sounded intriguing and I love a bit of mystery.
All the sisters are adopted and when their adoptive father dies, he leaves them all clues to their past. The first book follows the older sister and her journey to find …
I’ve loved all the books in this series that have been written so far!
love the series. so different. you can’t wait for the next book.
The book had great history of the Christ Cristo in South America. It was also a really nice romantic book. There is Mystery involved. It is a series of adopted sisters.
When I started reading this book, I was instantly intrigued. Although, I almost stopped reading it because it started to get a bit dull when Maia first started to read letters that were given to her. Good thing I powered through because I then couldn’t put it down! It turned out to be an excellent story. I got a little confused with who some of …
I love the characters in this new series of books – you will fall in love with this family and locations around the world – I anxiously await the next sisters book!
I’ve just started the fourth book in the series and have loved all of them so much.
this is a very original story; unexpected and unusual: extremely imaginative– a wonderful story of suspense and surprising ending.
I have just finished reading this book and though the writing was good and the story excellent I found repetition constantly of the Full names of the Spanish, and French characters annoying. Also at over six hundred pages was overly long, the story would have been much better if shorter.
