I was no longer helpless Old Grier. I was New Grier, and she was fierce. – 58%
The end has come for The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy. I’m sad to say goodbye to Savannah, Grier and company. It’s been a roller coaster ride of emotions and surprises.
When we left Grier and company, Savannah had fallen into the vampires hands.
In How to Wake an Undead City we finally get answers to questions, surprises that I didn’t see coming, and we see Greir come into her own. She still has a lot to learn, but with the help of friends and Linus at her side she’ll finally become what she was meant to be.
Edwards has a way of making you feel and care for all her characters from new to old. We see a resolution regarding Amelie and Boaz. I’m happy and grateful to have that done. And very pleased with how Grier dealt with both brother and sister. I was pleased to see how Linus and Grier’s relationship developed and how they plan to stay together. The author also treats use to battles mixed among moments of life. Last, we have a deadly vampire to stop. The ending delivered some unexpected twist and surprises. I was captured from begging to end!
This final novel answered questions, complemented the characters, and gave us closure, but also left the doors open for revisits. It also delivered the perfect setup for the spinoff series that begins with Shadow of Doubt. I’m happy and pleased with how The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series ends.
Rated: 4.5 Stars
Absolutely fantastic series
Cannot wait to read Hadleys story and see the novellas come out so I can see the wedding adventure. Edwards has created such an amazing world.
In this installment of The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy, Grier and Linus are at war. Well, all of Savannah is at war. LaCroix has attempted a coup on the Lyceum and Savannah is collateral damage. He’s glamoured vampires who wouldn’t work willingly with him and with Odette at his side, he believes he’s unstoppable. Grier, Linus, Boaz, Lethe, Hood, and others have banded together to not only take Savannah back, but to stop LaCroix and Odette. As usual though, there’s also others out there trying to stop Grier.
Linus and Grier’s relationship is doing great, they’re both learning more about each other, and how strong their relationship is. They’re perfect for each other. They know and accept each others faults, plus they try so hard to build the other up. It’s a wonderful relationship to watch unfold.
The climax is just jaw dropping. When Grier stops her aunt, you want to scream and jump. I’m not giving it away, and I recommend this series to anyone who loves well-crafted paranormal series’.
This book has it all. Great writing, a wonderful cast of characters, and a storyline that’s intriguing. Once you start this series, you won’t want to stop.
**I read this book using my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
The main arc of this series finally comes together with this addition, and many holes and mysteries are filled in, and some may have been guessed, and some definitely not. With Savannah on fire, and the vampires taking over, to restore peace, Grier, Linus and their group will need to take out Lacroix, an ancient vampire and Grier’s grandfather. But he is immune to Grier’s magic from a charm he wears. So they all come up with a dangerous plan.
Most of the things are wrapped up nicely in this final book in the series. The friendship with Lethe and Hood, how Grier and Linus are going to work their romance when Linus is still tied to Atlanta, the culmination of the friendship journey that Grier has with Amelie and Boaz comes full circle. The author does a great job satisfying most of the plot – but there were a few loose ends (minor) that will be tied up in the novellas that have been released. I am happy with the ending, and look forward to the novellas for more with Linus and Grier. This is an addicting series and well worth the time.
So, the last book in this series and the situation in Savannah is dire. Grier and her friends must act and take back control from her grandfather. In the process Grier uncovers more secrets and wow, some are a doozy! There was one I never saw coming but it makes so much sense and I applaud the author for her vast imagination. Loved the book and have so much trouble letting go of Grier, Linus and the others.
So, let’s just hope there will be lots more in the novellas huh!
The final book in a fantastic series, it was wonderful to see how it all wrapped up after everything that has happened, including the vampire takeover of Savannah. Of course a confrontation with her grandfather was expected, but there was so much more that Grier had to face, many lessons to be learned and decisions to be made. She wants to protect everyone she holds dear, including her city. Questions were answered, relationships strengthened or dealt with – including her mother’s and father’s family, and Grier makes those decisions about her future that will give her joy and fulfillment. I love how strong Grier is, and how she knows she can rely on Linus and her friends to always have her back and support her in what she knows she must do, whether they agree or not. The humor brightens what was sometimes dark and threatening, especially Lethe’s eating everything in sight during her pregnancy and Grier’s banter with Linus. In the end, I was very happy with how things turned out and I’m excited to learn there is a series of novellas planned as well as a spinoff series to come in the future.
Loved this series and this book!
How To Wake An Undead City by Hailey Edwards a five-star read that will wake your soul. I cannot believe that I missed this release!! This is the sixth novel in the Beginners Guide to necromancy series and each one builds on the last, this has been a great series, and this may just be the best novel in it. Grier and the crew have had a rough time, but they will bring it all together in the end. I am gutted that this is the end, but I am also happy that it ended like this, still on a high instead of being dragged out and loosing some of the power. Hailey Edwards brings a great element to Vampire writing, making you see them as so much more than may have previously.
