Soulfully magical! Loved it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was a easy and quick listen. I thought the narrator did a good job portraying the main character and the males. He did okay portraying the female voices. It didn’t distract me from the story. I enjoyed getting lost in this world. I loved Jacob, who was the main character. It was fun to see how his friendship with Emilia developed throughout the years and how Jacob lived on his own and how he coped with things. I felt for his character and I hope to find more answers about his family. I liked how it was similar to the Harry Potter world and there was wizards. I received a free copy of this audiobook, and I’m reviewing it voluntarily.
This was a very interesting start to a new series. We get the start of a budding young love between Jacob and Emilia, starting when they are kids, but then Emilia suddenly has to move away, and Jacob is left alone and disconnected from those around him, having always been a bit of a loner outside of his friendship with Emilia. When Jacob’s father dies, the magic within him that he doesn’t even know was there is unleashed, and Emilia reappears to bring him with her to learn how to be the wizard that he is. While it seems like he accepts being a wizard a little too easily, it moves the story along as needed and we meet the family that Jacob will become a part of. The only one who doesn’t seem to welcome him is Dexter, Emilia’s boyfriend, who seems like a jerk, and is suspect from the start. This is a world where a war is brewing between the rebel wizards known as « Dragons » and the main body of wizards. There is a lot of discord as well within the wizard council as well, and Jacob is thrust unwittingly into the heart of it. While this felt very much like a world building book than anything else, it was a good establishment of the characters and the conflict, and the ending was just enough cliffhanger to be compelling without being frustrating.
Looking forward to the rest of the series
I loved it
This is a good story somewhat reminiscent of Harry Potter, but with plenty of differences so it doesn’t feel like a carbon copy. The characters are interesting, the story-line is well thought out. The author invented a magic system that seems logical, though it’s not completely explained or demonstrated in this series introduction. If this book is typical it should be a good series.
The magical world of The Tethering was well written with shades of Harry Potter. I prefer each book in a series to be a stand alone but I still gave 5 stars because I was so intrigued I automatically bought book 2.
I thought it moved along great for a teen story.
This is a good read and thoroughly enjoyable. In common with most 1st of a series books it leaves you hanging. The next book in the series is calling me …
Good story
Kind of Harry Potter-ish, with the main character training to become a wizard.
Read it in one sitting. I found it very interesting and enjoyable.
A delightful read… I couldn’t put it down!
I liked it well enough to read to the end, but probably on’t get the sequel.
EXCITING! Although parts of this book could be very realistic, as in leaving a baby on a doorstep. A mother dying, and a father only being there for his child occasionally thereby leaving his child alone to take care of itself. Yes definitely there are parts that are to realistic. But, with all of the paranormal occurrences added it makes for a very exciting read.
This is a review of the audio version of The Tethering.
In The Tethering by Megan O’Russell, Jacob, a high school student, learns he is a wizard. He reunites with his old friend (and first crush), Amelia, a witch. We follow them and others in the magical community as they fight against a violent group who wants to use magic to gain power.
The worldbuilding was well done, including the magical system. I particularly liked the use of talismans, which can be wands or rings or any other objects. The particular way a wizard or witch connects to a talisman struck me as unique.
While the book is well written, I didn’t find myself hooked, and I’m not sure why. It has the elements I enjoy in fantasy…a cool magical system, romance, and action. I expect a lot of readers will connect to it more deeply than I did.
The narration didn’t wow me, but it was done quite well.
I received a complimentary audio copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
I loved it. Similar to Harry Potter series. So fans of that series will just love thisne
Great story
The story was good and held my interest. However, I don’t like cliffhangers and this had a major one.
